  1. Tesco, Direct Line and Privilege and other insurers underwritten by UK insurance require a Tracker for all vehicles over £40,000, and also on some specialist cars like Subaru Impreza's.

Click on the link above or call me on 01635 521818, if you won't a quote for insurance without the need for a tracker

  2. Categories D and C can be "bought" back from most insurance companies

Are A-Plan one of these companies?

We are a broker, so it's not our decision. Of the 40 odd schemes we have got I would be comfortable in saying that 98% of them would let you buy it back. There is only one of the insurance companies that I know of that won't always, and we don't use them in Newbury as they are never competitive on Lexus cars for us.

  3. why not ask Alistair Chapman if this is true?

Hi guys, its difficult for me to comment as each case is taken on its own merits, and at risk of teach you all how to suck eggs I'll try to explain how the insurance companies treat these sorts of claims. (We have approximately 40 different schemes available to us at A-Plan Newbury, and our other branches will have other schemes that we do not have and vice versa. I do not recognise the claim in question so I don't believe it relates to my branch)

There are several different categories of "write off", these are:

    Category A must be crushed.

Category B salvage is to be broken down for parts only.

Categories D and C are deemed, uneconomical to repair. These are cars which have been involved in a major car accident and are simply uneconomical for an insurance company to repair, or have been deemed a write-off by an insurance company to minimise hire car charges.

Categories D and C can be "bought" back from most insurance companies, for a nominal amount i.e. the scrap value. You are then free to sell the parts of the car, or make the car roadworthy yourself and subject to certain paperwork (e.g. engineers report and MOT) able to put the car back on the road.

The value of the vehicle is always determined by the market value for the vehicle at the time of the write-off(unless you have an agreed value policy, which is usually only associated with classic car policies).

If your car is repairable some insurers will only replace with standard parts, others will replace with the modified parts. (Of those that replace with standard parts, some are willing to replace with modified parts if these can be bought and fitted cheaper than the standard parts.

As a general rule of thumb most insurance companies will replace with standard parts. It is therefore important that if you want like for like replacement you specify this at the time, so a policy of this type can be sourced from a brokers panel of insurers to accomodate this.

    Hope this helps

  4. A windscreen repair should be free, and a replacement you will have to pay the excess for.

Double check your policy wording though as sometimes the excess can change if an approved repairer is not used, likewise the insurer may only payout a certain amount towards a windscreen claim if an approved repairer isn't used.

  5. It maybe is being suggested that it is brokers and not insurance companies that are hiking premium prices in succeeding years.

In my original posting - September 14 - the broker who suggested the £489 premium is the same broker I had the NIG renewal quote (£574) through.

This seems to indicate to me that the broker was embarassed by the size of the renewal quote.

And this does indicate to me that it is the insurance companies, or at least some of them, and not generally brokers who hike prices and hope public inertia or apathy stops clients searching.

The beauty of using a broker is that if the prices rises like this then they should be able to find another policy similar to what you paid last year, because at present (NU being in the minority) prices are still falling.

  6. Do you know if A plan will let me use NCB on a car and a bike????

Potentially we will be able to do something, we will need you to give us a call, so that we can assess your needs and requirements and advise you from there.

    01635 521818

rang you the other day (a plan not you individually) for a turbo is, you couldnt do anything apparently, is this the case or can u sort something out??

    Cheers Elliott

Are you sure you rang the Newbury branch, no one in my office recognises your details, perhaps you should call me tomorrow on 01635 521818, or pm your number and one of my staff or I will call you

  7. Interesting - me and my mates don't think Priviledge behave like that - my renewal went down by 73p per month this year and my wife had made a £4000 claim (on her insurance not that for the Lexus - but I did tell Priviledge as she is a named driver). This I thought was fine.

People in our office talk about initial low quotes, then hikes the following year - I guess APLAN and their NIG friends are not so strong after all.

    Your thoughts gentlemen!

As I discussed with yourself earlier today, this is simply not the case with the renewal discounts we have in place with NIG.

The NIG product is very good, offering Guaranteed No Claims Bonus over and above Protected No claims bonus amongst other benefits that you do not get on direct policies.

  8. 1. shipping, duty, and vat on top

would also need to go through esva and a model report would be needed

    2. dont know,

    3. no

    4. yes that and the fact it will be an import will increase premiums

it wouldnt be the easiest car to sell on either

Insurance wise you are looking at increase of at least 15% for it being a lhd

  9. I'm 36... and found quite a few companies that would not quote because of no Tracker....

Never got round all the comanies..and when I got elephant quote I just went with it, was getting fed up with filling in forms etc at that point.

Never realised they never refunded the remainder if I cancel...yikes...bit late to change now.

Nexty year I need to set aside more time to do this properly, I unfortunately had it in my head that I wanted to pay ~£350 and when I got that I signed up...doooohhhhh

If you have taken the policy out in the last fourteen days, you can still cancel and get a refund for the number of days you haven't used. (Financial Services Regulation + Direct Marketing Directive)

The comments on here are right following a total loss claim with Elephant your policy with Elephant is cancelled, you are not able to change of vehicle on the policy or get any refund for the time that has been unused. Admiral are the same with this.

  10. Not sure if Alastair dealt with him but you (A Plan insurance) has given a very competitive quote to a good friend of mine (Mr A Chowdhury) on his Beemer.....hez now taken the policy out with A Plan....

Very highly recommended if anyone looking for a motor quote :winky:

Thanks again Alastair...me friend is a very happy bunny :D

Yes that was me, thanks for recommending us!!

  11. Everyone's talking about A-Plan...so gave a call on behalf of my missus on her car insurance (renewal)...took all details and said they will call back with a quote....but not a single call back  :o That was couple of weeks ago... ;)

Apologies for this, as per my PM, I hope we have now sorted this for you

  12. So car renewal came in this morning...£412 and was wondering if anyone knows any good companies to try ?

I'm with Admiral and so far using confused.com they're cheapest...

Also found that Egg and directline will not quote as I've not got a tracker...

I'm 36, full no claims, no accidents in 5+ years, car garaged and about 7k miles per year.... was hoping for less than £412...

Perhaps you might want to give us a call, we may be able to help.

My telephone number is 01635 521818

  13. If you find that your insurers are not mod friendly, then call me on the number below and I will see if we can help you out

Do you know if Norwich Union are mod friendly? I heard they don't accept cars with tinted windows..

If it is NU through a broker then would certainly would insure a modified car, if it is NU Direct, then I'm afraid i am not sure on there underwriting criteria (but they probably will)

If you are through a broker and are over 25 I would be surprised if NU are the most competitive for you (not really their target market) perhaps you should give me a call

Depends who he is insured with, but with 99% of insurers he would not need to diclose any of it as they would be classed as dealer/manufacturer optional extras.

Being bodykit though if it were me I would double check.

  14. What if you put larger Lexus wheels on? Where does the manufacturers std spec stop?

A friend bought a 200 Sport with 18's, TTE bumpers etc brand new from Lexus Cardiff - what does he have to declare?

If they were optional extras which were put on the car from new, then it is unlikely that he would need to disclose them

  15. Depending on who you are insured with it will make little difference to the premium.

Worst case scenario can be that if you crash into another car at it is your fault, and your insurers find out that your car had modifications. They can through the courts look to recover their total outlay for the claim, i.e. the costs of the repairs to the other persons car + any personal injury claim that may have been made by the people in the other car

If you find that your insurers are not mod friendly, then call me on the number below and I will see if we can help you out

  16. In fact saved nearly £250 on renewal for both the IS and the Tezza.

Had the renewal notice through from Adrian Flux and thought I would give A-Plan a try, like a few others on here. Got quotes that bettered Adrian Flux by just short of £200 in total, I asked for a discount if I took both policies at the same time and got a bit more off.

All in all very happy, efficient and friendly service so top marks to Rob and A-Plan :D

Glad we managed to help MacRS200

    Regards

    Alastair
