  1. have you tried an ECU reset ? :) No but I'm thinking about it. I''ve been having idle speed problems as well and Lexus have said I need a new throttle body at a cost of £1095. Obviously I'm not going to pay that if I don't have to so tomorrow I'm going to take it apart and clean it then do the ECU reset. Failing that there's a salvage one on ebay for £25 that might be coming my way. Thanks for the suggestion.
  2. Lexus changed mine today. 8 year old Automatic with 98000 miles. There was a little bit of fraying on the edges of the old belt but nothing too serious. They did say however that there is a known issue with the belts wearing out early on some cars and that in some instances Lexus will cover the cost of replacement dependent on age and mileage.
  3. Thanks for that. The oil has been replaced now and it seems a little better. Lexus Bristol say that it's mostly just down to the mileage on the car (100K). It's not too bad so I guess I'll just live with it. At least it doesn't sound like anything immediately expensive.
  4. Good call. I'm having it changed next week so I hope that's all it is. I was just trying to prepare myself for what else it might be. Any other ideas?
  5. do you find wear is better with the auto Not really. James hi james i was only asking as i have just had belt etc changed,6 years old 85k and looked in very good condition,no record on service history of this being changed and was only 3 years old when i bought it.but water pump was starting to leak :) Ah right perhaps we have stumbled across something then, will look out for that. James Taking my auto in for 100K service and first timing belt change next week. Having read this thread I've decided not to drive it until I take it in. It will be interesting to find out what condition the belt is in :eerrrmm:
  6. My auto box seems to have become more harsh when engaging drive or reverse. It's still smooth when accellerating through the other gears though. Anyone else experienced this or have any idea what might be wrong? My fear is it might be expensive...
  7. Had the same thing a couple of times, most recently this week. Took about 60 seconds of turning the engine over (with the weird sound you mentioned) to get it to fire. The common factor when I've experienced it is that the car had been moved a very short distance and switched off shortly beforehand. I've put it down to the engine being flooded with excess fuel? It has always been fine starting after these incidents. Might be worth taking it to someone with a diagnostics tool and see if there are any error codes thrown up?
  8. Thanks. Great link. Just what I needed. Do you know if there is any way to get a download of the whole manual?
  9. Thanks Kiriyama. I tried prolex first but they were out of stock on the pads and there was no answer to my phone calls :( I then tried ebay as you suggested and went with the set you found :). Much cheaper than prolex too. Will check out halfords for the fitting kits. Anyone know what the torque settings are for the carrier bolts?
  10. I recently had my car MOT'd at Lexus and was told that the "front discs are lipped, front pads 70 -75 % worn on O/S. Poss calliper or guide pin starting to stick". Lexus want £380 to sort this which is madness so I want to do it myself. Looking at various threads Mimtex pads seem to be the way to go as people seem to like them and they generate less dust. Fitting is as per the knowledge base and I've done the pads before so I'm not worried about them. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...p;id=31&c=5 So my questions are: 1 - What are good discs to use with the mimtex pads. (this is a family car so is not driven hard and performance parts are not necessary)? 2 - What are the torque settings for the carrier bolts? 3 - Are the guide pins likely to need changing or just cleaning? 4 - If the guide pins need changing do I need to go to Lexus or can I get them anywhere? 5 - Anyone know of a good thread on changing the discs? Thanks in advance
  11. No I don't use webmail or any MS clients. I very rarely get any unsolicited messages like this. When I register with any website I use a unique address (websitename@mydomain.com) so that I can trace back any spam that I receive. It also means I can shut down any address that starts getting spammed without losing any other legit email. Yes I still have the mail.
  12. harvested it is then. Though I can't recall using it on the site.
  13. Just got a bogus email from barclats bank (yes that's the spelling they used) asking me to update my details. The curious thing is they sent it to an email address that I have only ever used on this site i.e. loc@mydomain.co.uk. I can only think of 3 explanations for this - They guessed lucky - This site sold/gave them my email address - They managed to harvest the address from this site some other way Just curious anyone else get the same email?
  14. I'm about to get some new Eagle F1 tyres that will help until they wear thin. I'd love a truly silent car though. Any tips?
  15. Seeing as you're in bristol (same as me) can I ask where you got yours done?
