  1. Hi Steve My apologies - for the delay in responding! It's been a stupid week and this is my first time back to the site since last Tuesday. Anyway, the car is a 1991 Mk1 LS400 and I need to replace the drivers side belt. Ideally I would like a blue belt to match the original. Any tips on how to remove the trim to get to anchor bolts etc would be a great help (before I start stripping out things I don't need to). Cheers Chris
  2. After sailing through the past 6 MOT's without ANY problems, my trusty stead needs to have a frayed seat belt replaced. Any tips, advice or "how-best-to-do-it" would be appreciated. Cheers Chris
  3. Hi That sounds good to me. I'll give it a go with new clips first, then change the pipe if I need to. Many thanks. Cheers Chris
  4. Hi Steve I'm losing fluid but it seems to be more like a 'seep' than anything more vicious. It appears to be oozing from the steel pipe somewhere, so I was thinking about making a new pipe out of, say, 10mm copper pipe and attaching it to the 2 rubber hoses with jubilee clips. I didn't want to do this if the clips wouldn't hold though. Any suggestions? Cheers Chris
  5. Hi everyone. I have a 1991 LS400. Could anyone tell me if the steel power steering fluid cooling pipe which runs in front of the radiator is under high or low pressure? I'm assuming it's high, but I'm not so sure. Thanks Chris
  6. Hi Keiron That would make sense. It hasn't done it since, so I hope it was a one-off incident. Thanks, Chris
  7. Hi Is anything simple on these cars? But I guess this is what sets them apart. I'll let you know if I find anything on US website. Thanks Chris
  8. Think I'll let a garage have a quick check. Glad to be back in it. Thanks for your help.
  9. Hi Chips The mystery deepens. Checked the timing belt (which by now I was almost hoping was the culprit) and found it was fine. Not even loose, so no chance of it jumping out of sync. Out of frustration or desperation tried turning the engine. Seemed to be trying to fire. Eventually it did and after belching out a lot of smoke it ran as smooth as it always had. No dodgy exhaust smoke, no funny noises, no squeaks, rattles or rolls. No water loss, no overheating, good oil pressure and it drives just fine. It is a mystery, especially after the severity of the knocking/banging.?????
  10. Hi Had a new timing belt fitted about 6 months ago (according to receipts), but haven't yet checked the one on the car. I'll try and check it on Thursday. Cheers Chris
  11. Hi Chips. Thanks for your reply. The explanation about the knocking on start up makes sense, in that the noise started immediately the engine was running. But I spoke too soon about the engine not turning over now. It does, but it won't start or try to start at all. It's just that I didn't have anyone with me at the time to check and it just didn't sound like it was turning. Sorry about the confusion. Cheers Chris.
  12. Hi Joined the club a few months ago when I purchased a very early LS400. What a car! However, when I started it this morning it immediately started making a loud knocking noise on tick-over. After a few attempts the knock reduced, but now the engine does not appear to turn, although I can hear what sounds like the starter motor spinning. I am assuming the starter motor is at fault - unless anyone has any other ideas. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated, and, if it is the starter, any tips on repacement etc. The car has done 150,000 miles, has been running just fine, and never gets thrashed - not that I could even if I wanted to. Thanks Chris
