I definately want to put in a DVD player/Car PC, and would like to put some nice alloys. Its just a case of saving up at the moment. Does anyone know a good Alloy wheel site that has a wheel chooser thingy? (You know what I mean... Where you select your car and colour, and you cycle through the wheels to see which set looks best..)

Being a Japanese site, you'll need to choose a Toyota Celsior UCF20, as they only list the LS460/600 under Lexus.
Should give you a good enough idea though.

When I started this topic, I was hoping that someone had taken the unit apart and located exactly why and what do be able to determine if I could rectify the problem myself.
Its clearly not as simple as a blown bulb and the possibility of a loose connection is remote. It therefore points to some sort of capacitor and/or a dry joint. Anyone who has had out the main instrument cluster will know that these things are packed with circuit boards and trying to determine which one is at fault is devil of a job.
So I wondered if anyone had either done the job and be willing to share the info, or had some sort of exploded diagram indicating the various functions of the parts.
I've the same problem, my radio backlight is very temperamental. I've found slapping the side of the center console 'sometimes' brings it back on.
I'm planning on replacing the head-unit with a double-din set-up anyway, so I'm not too bothered.

Not as stupid as people who video out of the window rather than offer to help her out...

Ouch!
A known problem with the 2GS, these are about £2000 through Lexus, and breakers know the value of them. It is highly unlikely you'll find one for less than £1000, and even then it's uncertain how long a used unit will last.
I got rid of my 2GS for this reason, as on some mornings it used to pump for far too long.

Really guys?
I read this as when the door is closed, i.e. there is something leaking from underneath the car, in the area of the drivers seat/footwell.
If I hazard a guess, it may be a leak from the water pipes that run to the heater matrix. It may be leaking as they pass through the firewall, and the water may be running down the firewall and dripping from the floor.

Since the car has been for paint, my first thought would be paint or dust in the jet...

Those temps might actually be right...
On simpler cars, the handbrake warning light is linked to a switch on the handbrake, such that if the handbrake lever isn't full off, the light is on. Tried puting the handbrake on/ off a few times?
Yes , tried the handbrake on and off but light comes back after touching brake pedal a few times.Fluid levels ok.
Have just trawled through the Suspension and Brakes forum , and could be a dodgy /loose bulb, so that is the next avenue to wander down.
Just a thought, brake pad wear indicator?
-
Historically on most cars, the handbrake warning light is also connected to the brake fluid reservior, which indicates if your brake fluid is low.

Hmm, not really, any double-din DVD player worth its salt will be £300+.
There's also the issue of there being no 'off-the-shelf' ISO loom for replacing the stock head unit in an LS400.
I gave up in the end, I'll be 'simply' splicing into the audio feed from the CD changer so I can alternate the input from my Harmon/Karden iPod Controller.

Don't! Just don't!
Xtrons stuff is a 'budget' Chinese brand.
I have a double din unit in my daily Daihatsu. If you don't mind looks it is packed full of features, but it WILL look totally out of place in a Lexus. The screen graphics are very poor quality graphics. Bascially, it looks like the icons and background were designed on a Commodore 64.

I'm guessing your have a VVT Mk4, as previous cars had cambelt intervals of 63k.
At a main dealer, you're probably looking at £800-£1000.
-
I'm looking to buy a MK3, and saw this eBay auction...
Isn't late 1999 T-reg too late for a MK3, the MK4 came in on 1998?
Could it be a ringer?
-
I agreed a price on that one, but backed out as the cambelt is overdue and I couldn't factor it into my budget.

the wheels look horrid never like,t borbets they look like some reject rubbish from the 1980,s thought they were mag slots lol or someone,s moondisc hubcaps euro style on a lex is no way.!!!!!
Reject rubbish from the 1980s...!? ~facepalm~

Funny, but fake.
Airbags use accel/deccelerometers to active, not shock.
There's no way a hit from a bag would be anywhere near sufficient to deplay an airbag.

This is probably an often asked question, but I tried the 'Search' facility and came up blank.
I want to replace the stock head-unit in my 1996 LS400 with a double-din aftermarket stereo.
I am not bothered about retaining the CD changer.
i can see companies selling Double-Din faceplate adaptors, but I can't seem to find anyone who makes an ISO adaptor lead to plug an aftermarket head unit into the Lexus audio loom.
Is there simply none in existance?

Anyone have any advise for me?
Thanks.

Hi folks,
My 1998 GS300 SE had been sitting a while without use, and the Battery went flat.
The central locking has always been 'iffy' on the passenger rear door. I suspect it is the typical solenoid problem, but I could always lock it by hand.
Since recharging the Battery, the central locking only seems to work on the drivers door, the rears don't open at all, and the passenger front remains unlocked.
I can't even lock it by hand, the button 'pings' back into the unlock position. You can see the button trying to move when I press the central locking button.
Is this a solenoid problem also? I thought it was still possible to lock the door by hand, even if the solenoids are not operating correctly.
I can't drive the car at the moment, as I don't really want to leave it on the street with the passenger door permanently unlocked!
Thanks in advance!

Has anyone fitted LED style rear lights and had trouble with the MOT? UK cars are supposed to have a 'E approved' markings on their lights.
Keep your stock lights and re-install them at MOT time, simple!
-
Has anyone fitted replacement LED rear lights? Some on ebay going for around £200 - £400. Any recomendations?
Buy these from the States, same kits, much cheaper.

Some LED kits have a taller clear section for the indicator/reverse light, which IMHO doesn't look as good.
These follow the original facelift profile.
If you're lucky you may avoid paying any VAT or Duty if they are sent via USPS, but in worst case, the total should only be around £160.

Hi, I have just purchased a 1998 Lexus GS300 SE.
The rear door locks do not operate with the central locking, they have to be unlocked and locked by hand.
Is this down to a factory setting, or is the problem due to an electrical fault, such as a blown fuse or broken circuit?
Many thanks.

'Bling' (awful term!) refers to shiny stuff, normally chrome or gold. So if your boss wants to cover the shiny aluminium in wood, he is in effect 'DE-blinging'!!!

Am thinking about fitting some of the read and clear rear clusters available in the US, but to my non-Import UK car. Being that the inner (boot lid) clusters are wider on US/Import models, I'm guessing I will need to create new mounting holes in the boot lid.
I do note that the bootlock is also in the rear inner cluster, so will this cause me an issue with relocating the bootlock hole as it will move over accordingly with the wider cluster?
Any thoughts or advice?

No, I beleive he means the model number, like a Pioneer DF-8086 CD Head Unit or something like that.
I'm afraid I cant help though!

If you want clear light, the front indicators are avaiable on US eBay, and cost around GB£40 delivered. Friendly sellers usually put a low value on the Customs form so you don't have to pay import fees. Depending on what Mk of LS400 you have, the Mk3/4 (95-00) uses the same side repeaters as the Mk1 MR2, and you can get clear side repeaters from UK eBay. My red/clear rear lamps popped up on eBay UK just before Christmas, but I've never seen them on there before. You can get them through US eBay though, same as the front indicators.
