  1. Hi all

Is there a way of connecting an external video device to the multimedia centre.

If not is there a device that i can get to upgrade it . I want to add screens to the back seats for the kids .

and run them off the existing incar media media centre.

    I don`t think so.

I have rear screens (not fitted by me) and there is a PS2 AND a DVD multi-changer in the boot. There`s an IR sensor next to the rear air-vents to play them and IR headphones.

Can`t say for sure as I`ve never used them but I guess you have to go that way due to watching DVDs on the move.

  2. I`d be very wary of any copies.

I bought the original of the 2010 version and 'backed them up'

They didn`t work for me but I know they worked for others. I couldn`t get the disc to eject without the 'secret touch' :winky:

I even re-installed the original 2005/6 disc to roll back the firmware and still wouldn`t play.

But.....if you`re getting your dough back, then you can`t lose.

Has anyone TRIED getting their dough back though???????:whistling:

    The secret touch??? :winky:

Yep........the secret touch to get the disc out :winky:

  3. Regarding the turbo lag in 2nd (whilst pulling away at low speed)....... I have always wondered myself if it should be so hesitant. To be honest i have just adjusted my driving style and dealt with it.

I am looking to get the chipped / remapped as i know this will fix the problem, give more power, and more economy.

    http://www.chipexpre.../products/1095/

One of my friends has recommend this particular company to me a however i know alot of people who have remapped their car and it makes a diesel so much worth having than a petrol model. (one of my friends remapped his alpha 147, the day he bought it (1 day old car).

Please let me know your thoughts on the lag in 2nd at low speed.

Has anyone used/installed one of these chips?

There`s a company in my town that deals in these and wondered what users thoughts were.

  4. I have no idea mate. I`ll quiz the guy on Saturday though when he comes to fit it.

I pay my Insurance excess of £75.

How did the fitting go ??? hope no issues..... i got my car's windscreen replaced last month with National windscreens and they did not do a good job...first time i could hear the engine revving directly into the cabin and it leaked near the rear view mirror ... they had to replace it again and now i hear wind noise on the motorway .... only because did not do a motorway run until yesterday after fitting the new windscreen (nearly 45 days)... i cant ask them to check it again and again ...

so would ask you to take the car to a car wash with a pressure hose and a motorway blast and check everything is ok ...

If you`re still having issues then you are quite within your right to ask as many times as you like. Even after 45 days.

It went well mate as far as I can tell.

Have only done 12 miles since it was done but 10 of them were motorway.

Haven`t washed it yet so can`t say if it`s watertight.

    So far so good though.

Also, it seems pretty much identical to one that came off. Even has the little window to show the VIN.

  5. From past experience, they will fit a non original part as standard. I had to request for an original part to be fitted.

    Cheers bud.

I just spoke to them and they assure me it will be the same as the original.

Just out of interest, how much is the new screen costing (whether you are paying or insurance), it would be nice to know.

  6. Hi Folks

I am looking to upgrade my 2006 standard audio pack to the multimedia pack witht he satnav screen and bluetooth. I am looking to buy a second hand unit and install myself. Could anyone tell me what issues I may come across. Does the existing wiring loom already contain all the fixing for the satnav etc (like the BMWs).

Is is worth pursueing and does anyone have any idea where i could get the head unit etc.

    Regards

    Kevin

I can`t help on any issues you may get but I reckon the best bet for the unit would 24/7 spares or other breakers.

  8. Hi Guys,

Only about my 3rd or 4th post but i've now placed my votes.

Had my Is220d SE since Mar 10 and have now clocked up 7,000 trouble free miles. Economy wise I easily average mid 40's mixing up M1 and a bit of town traffic. The wife drove back from a wedding in Sheffield a few weeks back and in 6th gear with cruise set at just over 80 on the clock (about 75 on the GPS) she averaged 51.8 mpg!!!

I agree that turbo lag is horrendous and I am getting a couple of creaks and ratttles from the dash but other than that I have had absolutely no issues at all. One thing that really gets my goat is the drip from the drivers door after it has rained!!!

    FB

I only collected my Lexus yesterday but compared to a Saab the turbo lag is nothing and build quality is superb.

The gearing is on the tall side, warranted, but the cabin is so much quieter it's silly.

Methinks some of the rattles people complain about are because they've been spoilt by silence...

hearing pin drops can be a curse?!

    Later that same night;

Having read the rest of the posts I am convinced there are a few "Jessies" on here.

Seriously, 6th gear is meant for the motorway, not for Tesco parking lots or b roads. You need to be doing 70 to make it work.

There is enough torque to maintain your speed in cruise control on the motorway uphill or downhill.

That "slight rattle" is probably something your misses left in the ash tray to p!ss you off, like a 5p coin or a small makeup accessory. Again, compared to a Saab, this is silence.

Do you think we don`t know that?

Anyway, 70mph isn`t enough for me to use 6th on the M/W. It labours at less than 77-80mph and if you hit traffic and drop to 70, you have todrop down to 5th. ANY 5 speed car will cruise between 55 and 80mph without having to drop a gear but not the 220D.

Unless you`re bombing along at a STEADY 80mph or more, 6th gear is useless.

    IMHO of course.

  9. hi all!

for my 4 year old 70k miles is250 auto i used bg44k i bought from www.powerenhancer.co.uk. my car use to shake when i stopped at junctions and on one occasion it stalled,i did a bit of research on the american side and found they use this stuff at lexus, audi,vw dealers. after each service the dealers put can of bg44k for petrol or bg244 for diesel in to petrol tank. i used about 3 weeks ago and found the engine was smoother and more responsive and no more flat spots, it does not shake anymore, the revs use to drop to 400 and back up to 700 when stop, does not do it anymore. i tried bg244 on my dads bmw525d with the same results.i am getting between 3-4 miles more per gallon than before with same style of driving.i have had the car since new and the engine now feels like new.hope this information is of some use to you guys that have still got problems with carbon build up.

    mike chan

I've just ordered some now! Hope I get the same kind of results B)

From where and how much? :whistling:

    Have you tried this yet?

  10. Well, definitely turbocharger should last at least 100000 miles. And i know many people being very happy with Japanese cars due to their long lasting engines and parts. Most important in my opinion diesel cars must be kicked down more often than gas, especially when drive in the city. I found this a major fact protecting the turbo and injectors. SO don't kill it every day at 4500 rpm but is a must gear change near 3000 rpm. Don't worry about the fuel consumption, you waste more driving slowly and besides don't buy a Lexus if you are looking for low fuel consumption and cheap maintenance.

    I agree.

Most derv`s don`t like mollycoddled. That`s how you get carbon build-up.

I seldom even get into 4th gear driving around town. I`ll sit at 35mph in 3rd rather than have it labouring in 4th. All my other cars will have been in 4th at 30mph.

Yep...... a good booting now and again does it the world of good.

  11. Have to agree with all the points, although I don't get backache from the pedals. You forgot the worst thing though - the gearchange which is probably caused by clutch drag from the failing DMF which Lexus dealers won't admit to. However, when you're quietly wafting along enjoying the stereo, it's still quite charming!

Yep.....had to replace my clutch at 55k miles. DMF has 22-24mm of play but hasn`t been replaced. Lexus don`t want to know, unless of course I pay them shedloads of money to fix it.

  12. Hard to disagree with your points there.

I too feel I`ve wasted my money but would only write off this model and not Lexus as a Marque.

6th gear is a waste of time unless you`re bombing down the M/way.

As for the high idling, it`s only in cold weather. Must be a feature of this car.

My alloys are flaking and went to Lex Edinburgh who very kindly said the wheels were out of warranty and wasn`t their problem. If I were to return another day they`d take some pix and and Customer Services MIGHT replace them if they see fit. I never went back. It`s boll-ox. alloys shouldn`t flake and Lex should take care of it.

Anyway, mines will get punted in the Spring and that will be then of Lexus for me.
