  1. Hi fellow members Sadly my LS430 (2000y 111k miles) recently let me down on the motorway on the 13th :( What an embarrassment and disappointment. Couple of weeks ago I decided to change oil and filter in the transmission and found that oil was well burned and filter had many metal pieces in it.. picture attached Now in limp mode and makes grinding noise as soon as it shifts to 3rd gear I would like to you for an opinion about whether is it worth changing or repairing the transmission if so, could someone share their experience with similar problem? Maybe recommend a gearbox specialist within Midlands? Thank you Pat
  2. If the mileage of the car is 40k I would not bother. By the way I was told exactly same at Lexus Birmingham.
  3. Abs, one thing to mention - have your lpg injectors and the vapourator checked. Injectors should be replaced every couple of years rgese are not too pricey. If it misfiries in cold, could be temperature trigger switch point that needs adjusting. If the installation is old, have the lpg ecu changed to some recent one with common usb interface
  4. Oliver, 23 mpg sounds reasonable. It's a petrol v8 and consumption will vary depending on many factors including weight of your foot, outside temperature etc. remember this is 4 litre 300bhp engine! Come on!
  5. I am not so shocked because I bought mine 1997 with 48k and private reg for £500 around a year ago. By the way it's got LOC stickers all around. Maybe it is belong to one of fellow members at some point? Gold in colour
  6. Patrick I don't reckon that any of springs available on eBay were made in China. I think 99% are made in EU but may be worth checking. Remember all parts have their lifespan and when it comes to suspension parts I would rather go for a new ones depending on few things. Couple of months ago I decided to change all shocks as the car was giving me a floating feeling on a motorway. Bloke in a local garage after he checked told me there is nothing wrong with shocks until they are leaking (!!!) when changing I found original 16yo (65k on odo) shocks still on my car. All manufactures recommend to change parts in mileage/age interval whichever comes first. Pat
  7. Patrick Ls400 has big springs, mobile mechanic may struggle. I would rather go to a proper garage. Pat.
  8. Thanks for your replies. The battery seems normal it goes flat gradually, it was probably a week between the first time I have noticed lazy starts in th morning and the point where the car wouldn't start. Also I am using heating on seats a lot. Can anyone recommend a place for bearings and maybe what bearing sits under the pulley? I'm trying to avoid wd40 as I think it may flush away grease in the bearing. Another thing is that when I operate windows (4 at once) I can definitely say that headlamps are going dimmer. This is going on for a long time now. Would this be a voltage controller on the alternator? Thanks Pat
  9. Hi everyone Could someone give me a hint on how to inspect the alternator belt tensioner? I can easily and without effort press the serpentine belt and see the tensioner moving. Also my battery seems to go flat and pulley is squeaking but alternator is charging at 14V on idle. I am definitely going to change the belt but Lexus Coventry just quoted me £170 + vat moor tensioner. Thanks any advice is most velcome.
  10. Hi Stevie My advise is go for it, buy one that you like with low mileage and send it for LPG conversion. There are many installers out there and it's a quick payback. 10 k miles traveled will most likely let you save the amount that was invested.
  11. Hi Pete I had my plugs changed when LPG was installed. Bear in mind that it is crucial for an LPG installation that all spark plugs and leads are changed regularly. I believe these should be changed more often than when driving on petrol only. Don't look for fancy ones. My set of 8 was less than £40. All the best. Pat
  12. Hi everybody I am looking for an amplifier cover that goes on top of amplifier, under driver's seat. Also trying to buy passenger side mirror glass with rubber surrounding Please drop me a line if you can help Thanks Pat
