  1. Hi all well had my IS200 since 2001 and tried many different manufacturers tyres and for past 3 years been running Falken fk 453 for price and wearability .best advice after all these years is get alignment done properly I had some Pirelli p zero tyres 15 years ago didn't last 10.000 miles cause bad alignment. The Falkens grip well and last.If anyone has any questions for a long term owner fire away

  2. Hi my is200 had covered approx 70000 miles definitly on original coil packs .One coil pack packed up car ran very lumpy garage said no way you could no when they will not work .i asked if it was worth replacing them all but the cost at the time seemed a lot so just replaced one covered a further 11000 miles no problems

  3. Ongoing problem with my 08 IS 250 Mark Levinson system

    Sat Nav OK

    Radio OK

CD no sound but each CD placed in machine is shown on screen. Tracking works and elapsed time is shown.

Car has been back to dealer 3 times. Now booked in for a 4th time. Everyone at Lexus very obliging but so far the problem remains.

Visit A. Amplifier disconnected and reconnected. Standard ( I was told) first line of approach. Worked for a couple of days

Visit B. Amplifier replaced under warranty.Worked for a couple of days

Visit C. CD Unit replaced.Worked for a couple of days

Visit D. Due soon. Hopeful for a cure.

I have been advised by an audio engineer friend that the auxilliary sockets could be the culprit(s) as when an Ipod or similar is used the CD sound is muted. I have not used any auxilliary device but the previous owner may have done so.

If anyone has any experience of this fault or if anyone has an idea of the likely problem I would be grateful for some feedback please.

    Err3

  4. I got one today, altho I was under the impression that lets say you park your car in a pay and display, and haven't got change for the ticket, u have a little lee-way to grab change from somewhere, and i'd heard that if a traffic warden sees a car without a pay and display ticket, they have to wait a certain amount of time before issuing a fine? can anyone confirm??

it was a council parking ticket, not a police one or private one

if I can appeal I will but its only £25 if I can't, thought i'd check first cos £25 would look better in my fuel tank

Hi yes you are definitley allowed a period of time to get change im not to sure how long but its at least 5 mins and this is the case in a council carpark

Try a website called pepipoo thats about help in these matters

  6. I love my Lexus IS200. When I was seraching it was a choice betwwen a BMW 3 Series, an Aidi A4 or a Lexus, so I went to see each one in that order. The BMW was boring, common and a flop in the interior. The Audi was better but still a yawner. Then came the Lexus. A car I'd never really thought about but wondered 'what if?' I loved the ride, the interior was fabulous especially the circular dash design and all those gadgets. I bought the car without wondering why. That was 4 years ago and I still look out of the window just ro see the Gunmetal and sparkling alloys smile back at me. I actually bought it as a wedding present to myself and now my 2 yaer old sees it and yells 'daddy's car!' even though it's only a 2002.

I'm used to faster cars as I'm used to the kick of a turbo and the tickling in my tum-tum as the tress wave by - the Lexus isn't the rocket but if you know how to drive you'll know how to get the thrills out of them. I love the way they handle, take corners and feel. Up against anything with a scoop in the hood, well, sit back, out the flat cap on and pass on by. They are one heavy car though. I recently changed the brake discs and they alone were a two hand carrying job. But then I have the SE which means heated seats and in the Winter any fronted seated passenger receive a bummy delight as they wiggle and soothe into the warmth.

It's always passed it's MOT without any to do lists. The only things I've ever done on it is service, tyres, break pads, and petrol. I bought her a new set of alloys as the others were pealing and kerbed badly and that's made all the difference - it's a wonder what a new pair of shoes makes.

And that brings me to why hate her so. Everyone has a wicked side and this one likes to drink... alot! Even with the petrol prices and the offer of a company car I'm still doting over the Lexus. I've learnt how to drive her economically from a slower pace of driving, turning the Snow mode on on the motorway, changing the air filter regularly, adding injector claener to the fuel - so it adds the miles. From a full tank of about 70pounds I get just over 400 miles. I would love a Lexus IS200 with LPG.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my thing-thing. I enjoy all the questions and queries on here, it helps with bits and bats. Obviously I had nothing better to do so thought I'd harp on a bit. Enjoy your cars guys.

  7. Can't believe nobody replied to say how helpful this post would be

The tutorial by Trevman is clear and concise and if i was in anyway confident in my ability with tools this run through seems foolproof and would be happy to use it.I had my front discs and pads replaced this week and paid £90 labour+got ebc discs and greenstuff pads not bad as also they informed me that a piston had siezed in one of the calipers{it had feltsluggish}THEN 2 DAYS LATER A COILPACK packed up.Got the newish goodyear tyre replaced {pothole damage again}so all in all diy tips are great and wish i had the confidence

  8. Had a bulge in the side wall of a rear tyre so needed replacing decided to get both replaced Eagle f1 asymmetric xl.Tried giving 2 days notice to the main tyre companies but none could fit me in.So thought i would give event tyres a go they could come to my home when it suited me.They confirmed my request with a prompt e-mail and phoned the day before to confirm.Phoned this morning to say would be with me in approx one hour turned up as promised, was polite effecient clean total cost £220 fitted so cheaper than competitors i tried .result.Would highly recommend.

  9. Hello all,are there any lexus owners club ,members in Brighton or Sussex ?

Im hoping to find a reccomended independant garage in my area to do a major service etc (preferably one that someone can vouch for as having done work on their car competantly) - I dont really want to spend a grand in lexus as im thinking of pxing it for a later higher spec 200 or 300 pretty soon ?

And its allways nice to put a name to the cars as i see quite a few lex about.

    Thanks all

Hi,I use a company called Wheelbase in Burgess Hill, have done for past 3/4 years their honest trustworthy and seem reasonable on charges. After my Lexus warranty ran out iwas wary of who could look after my car ,never a problem with them.Ask for Jamie tele 01444248754 they are on the Victoria trading estate hope that helps.

  10. Hi all,my is200 is due a cambelt and although i can get it done cheaper elsewhere as i was in lexus brighton enquiring as to cost and availability of genuine parts i was offered a special offer theyre running at £299 inc vat to do the cambelt.

The belt itself they charge £29.70 for so the labour is quite considerable but i am considering having it done here for peace of mind.

However the guy then said that this cost did not include the cost of the idler and roller which could need fitting as well-i presume they would need to be as the car is on 90,000 miles and i cannot find evidence of a belt change anywhere so it is likely to be original and very long overdue, they add £112 inc vat for idler and roller.

I am quite happy to spend five or six hundred pounds on the car as it is in beautiful condition and i got it cheap due to a short mot which it flew through and its need for a cambelt but i am just wondering if anyone has used lexus brighton before as i do not want them to escalate costs once they have the car.

Thanks if anyone can tell me if they have used them at all

The total price including tensioner & idler which should be changed too for real peace of mind, seems normal enough - but you should also think about a new water-pump while you are at it because they are inclined to start to dribble at the age of your car and will probably need to be replaced soon. It will of course add to the cost, but will be cheaper to change at the same time as the cambelt than separately later. Aside from servicing, tyres etc, and with a little bit of luck, that will probably be all you ever need to spend on the car.

Great minds think alike, yeah i will do waterpump too-its a false economy not to-thanks

Ipurchased my is200 se auto from Lexus brighton a few years ago had servicing carried out by them always polite effecient,i definitley only trusted them at the time to do the cambelt+ it was 3 years ago but i assume their technicians are fully up to the job still paid around £500-550 so doesnt seem a bad deal .

  11. can you not claim accidents like this from the local council? i'm pretty sure you can here in nz...

Yes you can if you take photos and measure depth /width i dont have figures to hand of what constitutes a pot hole size you can claim on.After the recent snow 20 to 30cm and now the melt because the roads here in the southeast of england are old and the local councils dont spend to much on road maintance there are stretches of road covered in holes on our local trading estate there are literally hundreds of holes teams of local council workers have started to fill them, they shovel in a mix of tarmac pat it down i guess thats all they can do but it doesnt seem very permanant in fact we had snow early 09 and what they filled the holes with then lifted again.

  12. Consider yourself lucky if it's a slow puncture mate, guess you got a new innertube in there? i did the same thing about 3 weeks ago at about 30mph, massive clunk, was one hell of a pothole. cut about an inch gash in my tyre, was flat inside of 10 minutes, i had to park up just after that pothole anyway thats when i noticed my car was lopsided  . cost me a sodding new tyre which as you guys know is £200 down the pisser easily for a rear wheel. even i was lucky not to do any damage to the alloy or anything, they checked the balance when i had it replaced.

Yes new tyres about 2 months ago.stange though pressures set at 35lbs after impact and when i noticed tyre going down checked on gauge and it read 25lb pumped it up.Few days later it reads 30lb that is a slow and inconsistant puncture what do you reckon weird or what.

  13. May not be buckled. I had a slow puncture and the tyre fit place could not find a leak. Turned out to be minor corrosion where the tyre seals against the rim. The guy rubbed the rim and the tyre is fine. My IS200 is a 2001. Apparently it is problem with old alloys.

Ah that could be possible what you say about old alloys the car is a 1999 v reg

  14. Hi one and all.Was out and about night before the snow fell last week hit a pothole at about 40mph the vibration through the car was really teeth rattling.I now have noticed i have a slow puncture probably caused by the afore mentioned. If i hve damaged the alloy wheel is it repairable by one of the companies that offer wheel refurbishment service or will i have to buy new wheel(they are stock alloys)or can any of the tyre suppliers help ,any advice appreciated

  15. keeping the lights on Auto, can reduce the life of the lighting relay aswell causing it to stick on

I've switched the auto lights off for now and 3day's now no problems...fingers crossed....but the car has a good 4inch of snow on it after I parked it and with the car still warm, it will melt and find it's way to the plugg that is of concern.... well it has been 2hrs and still off so looking good up to now....

Still annoying that a bit of moisture can cause a huge problem...

Had quite a bit of rain here in the south before the snow and i was suffering with excessive moisture inside the car on the windows i discovered in the passenger footwell was soaking wet i found twigs n muck in the sunroof gullys(cant think of the technical name)cleaned that out and seems better

  16. And if you haven't got winter tyres????!!!!

We should ask you why not? My work vehcle is fitted with Winter tyres.....

Just been on Goodyear website. The Eagle f1 tyres i have are not intended for snow and ice. That explains why my is200 auto wont move in 10cm of snow on a slight incline,so those suggesting Winter tyres are correct.I eiter use the wifes peugeot 206 which is great in the snow and ice or £400 plus on new tyres.Inow looking for new tyres my better half just informed me 20-30 cm due tomorrow in the south
