Is it worth asking for a 1000 pound discount and using 500 pound GPS as a speedo or will that solution not pass the next MOT?

Hi Guys, Paying 1500 GBP for a 91LS400 and looking for a Kent or nearby non main agent. Any ideas? Love to do some work myself but as an expat aussie I have no tools or garage. The goods news is that the same car in Aus would have cost me 5-7K GBP
