  1. I would take it to the lexus dealer but I don't think the seller would pay what lexus would charge. As for them coming up a getting it we asked them to do that and they said it woul be easier and cheaper to have it done here. My local garage is owned and ran by an ex toyota trained mechanic.
  2. I've been in touch with the garage who sold me the car and they're going to pay for me to have the seal replaced. As they're in Manchester and I'm in Newcastle they've asked me to take it to a local garage and get a quote for the job. My local garage is booked for the next month, so the seller of the car has said to take it to any local one. I don't really trust garages as I've had bad experiences with them in the past. I was recommended this one by my mechanic mate who sends work to him, as my mate is mobile and not garaged. He could do the job but it needs to be on a lift or over a pit. Normaly I do all my repairs myself but this one is a big job and as the car is still under warranty I thought I'd let them deal with it.
  3. I do have a FLSH. As to who my warranty is with now I don't have a clue as the garage hasn't forwarde me any paperwork on it. The car had a personal plate on and I had to wait for all the docs coming back from the DVLA. I've got them now but no warranty documentation. just been in touch with the garage and they've said to take it to any local one to get a quote. Hopefully it's now all dealt with.
  4. the phone no I have in my booklet doesn't exist anymore, so I phoned my local Lexus dealership (newcastle). They said no. So I asked them to take a look at it so they could inform the garge where I bought the car from (which is in Manchester). They said they'd have to strip it down to look at it and it would cost me. You can clearly see where the oil is coming from. this pic http://www.unc.edu/~scorcher/oil_leak.jpg ( not from my car but one that had the leak) is exactly how my car looks like, apart from no oil on the exhaust. I just hope that the waranty I have on this car covers this.
  5. my warranty isn't with a lexus dealership but a private garage where i bought the car from
  6. with reference to my post about oil leak. On the replies I've had, I've taken a look on the US forums. There they mention the replacement of the seal being done free of charge as a gesture of good will. Are the UK Lexus garages willing to do work as a gesture of good will. When the seal is a design fault and Lexus know about it.
  7. Thanks ColinBarber looking at the pic that could also explain the crackling noise. (oil dripping onto exhaust). not that there's any sign of oil on the exhaust (I've just taken a look) will get it checked out under the warranty.
  8. is that the rear seal in the engine and gearbox?
  9. I've noticed oil being left on my drive over the last couple of weeks. At first I dismissed it (not from my lexus). I asked a mechanic friend to take a look. He said it seems to be coming from where the gearbox mates to the engine and that it could be an internal seal (big expensive job he said). The car is still under warranty from where I bought it from they said to clean the oil away and check it again in a week or so. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this type of oil leak. Plus eversince I bought the car I've had a crackling noise like liquid dripping onto the exhaust (after turning it off). The sound isn't there when the car is running. Is this normal. Also should I have had a booklet with instructions on how to use the satnav in with the pack. apart from these I'm more than happy with the car. Any advice/help or feedback etc would be grateful cnrke1 :)
  10. I've just bought a 2001 RX300SE (must say what a dream to drive) I've got after market alloys fitted with 235/50/18. Can anyone advise me on what tyre pressures they should be. I do a fair bit of town driving and occasional motorway. Also I'm finding it pulling to the right, had the tracking done at my local Tyre Spot was 1.5mm out. now my steering wheel is pointing right when going straight. Any suggestions on this would be great. My mate works at the local tyre spot so any info from here I will pass on to him to see if he can correct it. Oh having the tracking done has stopped the pulling to the right. Apart from these niggles it has been a fantastic buy, one of the best I've ever done.
  11. :) i'm joining you lexus owners. My budget can't stretch to a new RX so a used one will do. I've seen a few high milers all with FDSH knocking close on the 100k are there any issues with these high milers like worn bearings, knocking engines etc. I know Lexus has a fantastic build quality but if I'm spending my hard earned and saved money I'd like to know if any one has had any problems with high milers. I currently have an Audi A6 with 165k and have had not one pick of bother with it. I've always wanted a Lexus now I can just about afford one will I regret it?
