  1. In case of an electronic issue, you could try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and seeing if that resets things. Probably won't work but is a free/easy fix if it does.
  2. PROBLEM SOLVED! Searching around, there was a Lexus repair guide for a creak from the seat ("seat locating pin"). Basically there are two guide pins the protrude down from the seat rails (near the front bolt) that are only used in the manufacturing process (to locate the seat rails correctly). Once the seat has been bolted down, these pins have no purpose, other than (after a time) to create a rather annoying creak! Tools required: Flat blade screwdriver (gaffer tape the end to prevent scratches to trim) 14mm socket (for seat bolts) Small hacksaw or power cutting tool (to cut pin off) Something to hold up seat whilst cutting pin (I used an axle stand, being careful not to damage anything under the seat!). Anyway, there is a guide online somewhere but the simple solution is: 1. Remove trim covering seat bolts (put seat forward, then back to make this easier). screwdrivers should be all you need, care not to break the trim! 2. Undo seat bolts (x4). 3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 secs at least (airbag sensors etc. in seat have power backup) 4. Move seat back and tip up the front, making sure no underseat cables are snagged. 5. You should be able to see a guide pin that goes down through the floor. Cut pin off as close to flush with the seat rail as possible (best to leave plastic cover on pin there for ease of cutting - I used a hacksaw - so to not scratch seat rail (not that that would matter as it's unseen). 6. I put a small cutoff of sponge covered in cloth (1 inch square or so) to cover the hole where the guide pin goes - so end of cutoff pin doesn't scratch/rub and create a different creak!! 7. Hoover up any mess 7. Bolt back seats, re-connect battery and replace trim (that covers bolts). 8. Get annoyed at trip computer reset and window reset learn, seat position re-program etc. :D 10. Take for test drive and be well chuffed with the fix! 11. Treat with a cup of tea. Took me about an hour all in. If you're handy with tools, it's a reasonably simple job. I'd advise getting the pdf tsp thing online before starting (my instructions are a summary but should be all their is to it, the guide says to disconnect seat cables and remove seat but no guide as to how to undo seat belt! all unnecessary anyway, tipping the seat up gives to access to cut the pins)
  3. Recently (last few months, so wasn't originally there previously), got a creaking sound (like two objects rubbing together) on my MY07 GS300 (40k miles). Sounds like it's coming from either the driver's door, B pillar, rear door or driver's seat. Which, I do not know but initially it "sounds" like the door panel but that could be deceptive due to the way sound travels (which makes me think it could be seat or rear door related). The creak happens when turning left (moreso at low speeds) and sometimes when driving straight on rough/untarmacked roads (e.g. tracks, car parks etc.). Turning right doesn't seem to have the same issue (or if so, may be somewhat fainter). I have tried "holding" the seat, door card etc. to try and diagnose the source but that hasn't revealed anything (still creaks). I have also tried to (when stationary) rattle/push the door, seat, card etc. but doesn't make the creak with those tests. Any ideas as to what it is and what DIY things I can check (I maintained cars in past so have tools etc.)
  4. Hi all. Just revisiting this thread as I probably need to replace the tyres in the coming month or two. Anyone any recommendations or will the Dunlop sport 01 be ideal? I'd prefer a good "all round" tyre (wear/grip/noise/etc.), the current dunlops did well in the snow last year (well, were much better in snow than the S2000 I had before :D)
  5. Anyone with an iPhone 5 and GS (2007 model) that all works OK? Don't want to get the 5 and find bluetooth systems are incompatible! iPhone 5 (& 4S I think) uses bluetooth v4.0. I know the iPhone 4 works OK (bluetooth v2.1). Thanks in advance! :)
  6. Model is a GS300 57 plate with 17 inch wheels. Have Dunlop SP Sport 01 (225/50/17) currently and have some life left in them but considering options. What are the other (if any) OEM recommended tyres for this car? Also, are any people here running winter tyres? May initially get some winters and swap back with current tyres in the spring. What do people recommend? Don't want to spend a fortune but don't want to buy cheap crap either!
  7. Picked up yesterday! Absolutely faultess, you'd think it was a new car. Drives v well, enough performance for what I want so that's good news!
  8. Thanks. I assume there's no 3.5mm Audio in jack anywhere? Can I fill up a DVD with mp3s or does it have to be a CD?
  9. Should be picking up my 07 GS this week and want to know my music options for the ML stereo (I want to take some music when I pick up for the journey home). Obv it has CDs, tape(!) and radio, but does it play mp3s CD/DVD? Is there a USB plug? or audio in to plug in an iPod? I don't think it has the optional iPod connection kit (£200 option is ott!) Thanks in advance.
  10. Head overruled heart in the end so I went for the 300, lower mileage, from MD etc. Now the wait! :D
  11. Thanks. Sod's law would mean I get a duff one though, that's my worry and as 5+ years old, not covered by Lexus.
  12. Thanks. Do you know the mileage of the two you mentioned? How wide is the performance gap between the two? I like something with a fair bit of overtaking ability. All I am considering are from dealers (300 is from main dealer)
  13. Having sold my current car, I'm am about to buy a GS (2007ish models) I have 2/3 in mind that I have checked all all seems in order and are a mix of the 450h and 300 but I'm struggling to decide between them. All have ML stereo and spec-wise they're pretty much the same. Checked for recall (valve springs etc.). Mileage-wise they're all 30-60k. There's a £1000 between the three so financially I'm happy with either of them so not down to price. The 450h will be less to tax of course. I like the drive of the 450h, a little odd but in a nice way. I like the quietness when on batteries, the performance and the relative economy. Obv the boot space is less but still hatchback size so big enough for my needs (wife has CRV for load lugging!) However, the 300 is likely to be more reliable? (less to go wrong). Is quoted mpg (28.8) realistic? I get that out of my current car (S2000) that is also quoted at 28 so I guess my driving is representative. Do I really have to worry too much about the hybrid system? If it fails, can the car run on petrol only as if a normal car for example? How much performance difference is there *really* between the two? (I've driven the 450h but not the 300). Performance that I "need" is more for overtaking (commute is a/b roads with some dawdlers and my current car, S2000, is great for this) rather than b-road blasts or traffic light GPs! Also, do they cost the same come service time? Anyone know any specialists in Sussex area? Brighton Lexus is no more unfortunately. So, basically I can't decide. Heart says 450h, head can't decide. Help! :) Note I will be deciding/buying tomorrow (should have posted this thread earlier!!!) so any quick advice would be great.
  14. Got my eye on a nice ls400. Ticks nearly all the boxes etc. however it has one problem (highlighted in another thread but I thought I'd start a new thread for better exposure and may be useful for others too :)). As described to me, the problem is as follows The remote locking doesn't work correctly. Remote locking locks the car but winds down the windows. To get round it, the previous owner removed a fuse? this way the locks work (i think) but you have to use the key in the door method. Because the fuse has been removed, the passenger windows won't work (which they do if you replace the fuse). Could it be a faulty relay? Costly to replace? I'm assuming the ls400 (1995 m reg) has full closure alarm/locking from factory?? Either that or it's an aftermarket alarm/closure system. The seller is having an auto electrician looking at it tomorrow but any advice/tips would be useful in case someone else has had a similar problem (could save time & money :)). If that doesn't sort it, he said he'd have lexus look/diagnose it (1 hour max due to high labour costs!) The 'alternative' is I negotiate a discount and get a 3rd party alarm with closure etc. fitted? I'd rather the factory system worked though so I have 1 key fob/blipper etc. Many thanks in advance :)
  15. Viewing of Lexus I was gonna see tonight is off for the time being as the dealer couldn't find out wha the problem was regarding locking the car. What happens is this (as I see it): Remote locks door but winds down window. To get round this you need to use the key to lock the door but doesn't lock the rest of the car. In addition the 2 passenger windows don't work. Apparently these are all related and a relay was taken out/put back in??? Dealer is gonna get auto electrician to look at it but I thought I'd ask here in case there's something to check that you guys know about. It could be something simple so don't wanna pass up chance of car. On the other hand it could cost lots to fix so don't wanna go down that route. thanks in advance.
  16. Well, assuming I get one soon (fingers crossed), my route so far is 78 VW Golf GLS (9 years I drove this since passing test in 1990, memories of youth aaah) 90 VW Golf GTi 16V (great fun) 95 VW Corrado VR6 (best car I ever owned) 00 Honda S2000 (amazing machine, engine & g/b, started trackdays with this) 97 Westfield 2.0 16v (THE most fun you can have on 4 wheels, love it and I still have it for my fun fix) 95 Vaux Omega 2.5 GLS (very competent but somehow I just don't care for it at all) Still got the Westie but getting rid of the Omega for the LS400. Rationale is ultimate fun (westie) and comfy luxury(LS400) keeps both my car desires satisfied. Anything else is a compromise.
  17. Only a 'limited warranty'. As many claims as you want, 1st £1000 paid. Obviously not total cost etc. but these only really apply to new cars. dealer is not lexus btw.
  18. May have found one. 95 model, 140k miles, £3k, service history (lexus) up to 25k miles ago (last owner did himself privately), excellent condition inside & out (I'll see whether this is true tonight!), everything works apart from remote central locking (using key works ok). 1 year warranty, cambelt being done if I buy it etc. looking at it tonight, printed out the 'laymans checklist' so gonna go through that when I check the car out. I think (hope) I'm mechanically minded enough to check things out well enough (I tinker enough with my Westfield! :D) I hope. anyone any thoughts on the remote locking issue? dealer said he'd get an auto electrician to have a quick look at it
  19. Cheers chaps. Regarding suspension, what should I check? Can do the usual shock absorber check etc. Anything in particular to look out for? I guess the air suspension option is a no-no? How common is the display problem? Is there a way to check if it's 'on it's way out' etc.?
  20. Have looked at those places. Not much around though at the moment. Am also considering 740 bmw so whichever 'right' car presents itself 1st will get my business :) Both have their +'s and -'s against each other but I'd be happy with either.
  21. Hi I'm looking for a LS400 in the £2-£3k range. What can I get for my money? What should I look out for etc.? Also, anyone know any for sale in the London/Kent/Surrey/Sussex areas? Many thanks.
