  1. Guys

When the cruising range on the GS300 sat nav screen reads "low fuel" how many miles/litre of fuel are left in the tank ?

    Cheers

don't worry about it. Carry a plastic can of fuel! :winky:

I knew I joined this forum for such helpful advice. :D

    Anyone know ?

It may be on a screen but it's still a gauge, or to put it basically a rough guide. Every single one Lexus build will be different. The only way for you to get an idea is to carry a can of petrol and let it run out, even then if you did it again with more weight in the car and on different roads it would vary. I'd guess it would give you 25 /30 miles, but it could be 10 or 50

  2. Hi Mike,

for what its worth I think your prospective buy is slightly over the odds, remember that if it's not been done, at 120,000 a cambelt change is going to be due. At 140,000 new set of platinum spark plugs 6X £12 plus labour. Have a look on autotrader.co.uk there are loads under 3 grand. don't worry about high milage, go for the newest you can afford. At 3 grand everything should work, there should be no rust anywhere, the interior should be pristine. Listen for grinding ball joints when on full lock, juddering brakes - wrongly tightened lugnuts bend the rotors, take it on a dual carageway and brake hard from speed.

It's a truly great car the MKI but don't pay too much!

    Good luck.

Thanks for the comments, thats great.

How much would the cambelt normally be?

Genuine Lexus belt from the dealers in Progress Rd. £25.04, plus a couple of hours to fit it. No special tools needed.

Any observations? I think Im gonna take a look this weekend. (It was previously up fopr 3k )

    cheers

It was previously up for £3k it's now £3295 :whistling: Stealer is located in a very nice location . I'd read the 12 -24 onth warranty very carefully before buying it. But it's a lot of car for the money

  4. a litle tip for changeing brake fluid, although you could do the same with the PAS. Get a plastic syringe and pull out most of the fluid with it. Refill with new fluid ( this should always be kept in an air tight container as it absorbs moisture from the air ) , then attach your bleed tube to a caliper and let it drain if it will. The reason for this is, as you bleed the brakes the piston in the master cylinder will travel further along the bore and this can lead to seal damage on old cylinders.

  5. Hi 88b, where abouts are you?

Yeah a friend of mine has a black gs300 in Hockley. I bought this one from a nice chap in Barnet.

Its actually my car not my wifes that needs the rad hence why im asking for the price as i know itll be a fortune.....where do you take your car for servicing etc?

I'm in Benfleet. As for serviceing that's what I do, I'm retired now ( got out 20 years early :D ) but I used to be an R&D tech at Ford's. Now I just play with Harley's and a few cars , I got a rad for a neighbours sons Astra last week £43. I've heard nothing bad about Westfields your just paying garage rates, but considerably less than a dealer.

  6. Hi All,

    Im a newbie here as i recently purchased a GS300 mk1 1995 'n', pearl over silver, 112k miles, FLSH.

Im looooving the car but I have a few questions and wonder if someone may be able to help.

    1) I have the one key with the press button and a spare aftermarket one. Did the Mk1 have a standard alarm fitted if so am i supposed to have an alarm fob, and if so can i still get one for the alarm i have?

    2) I have recently had the oil changed and the coolant changed (yes it is red) by Westfield Motors in Rayleigh who are lexus specialists and also have been my local garage for a number of years now (wifey has a Yaris). I put it in for a change because i noticed the coolant level was low. Since its come back its gone low again and i notice the radiator is corroded at the top and leaking slightly, will i need a new one and if so how much?

    3) I'd like to get some touch up paint for the 'Antigua' white and silver. Is it best to get it from Lexus and if so how much, or if it is expensive (wouldnt be surprised) then is it available elsewhere?

    4) My heated seats dont seem to get warm?! Im not sure if its my bum keeping the seat warm or the other way round. Should the seats be noticibly warm, if so after how long? If theyre not working, what could be the problem?

    Thanks in adance guys,

    Great Board!

Hi Bret welcome your very close to me. There seem to be quite a few Mk1's in the area.

My Mk1 came with a remote fob they keys are just keys no buttons. I found the people at the Lexus place in Progress Rd very helpful.

Yes the Yaris will need a new rad.

  7. In the past I have tried BP ultimate and Shell optimax in my 97 2.2 Prelude vtec, and I could never feel or see any difference in either consumption or performance.

I have done the same with the GS300 Sport, and yet again I could see no improvement, however over the past month or so when filling up I have been swapping between full tanks of Unleaded and Super Unleaded, and i'm now convinced that Tesco Super Unleaded gives me better performance and mpg.

Has anyone else experienced the same?

all of Tesco's fuel comes from BP refinery's, they may have a slihtly different blend but it's basically all the same.
