  1. I have both cargo nets from Lexus (Horizontal and vertical) and neither will be any use for what you're wanting...

Pet barrier might be a better bet, BUT, not sure how effective it will be at stopping cases etc hitting you/passanger in back of head if you carshed. I personally never load up past back of seats. Possibly raising the rear headrests to highest position might also help give a bit more of a barrier ?

When you say vertical net - which four points does the net anchor with ?

    Tony

Vertical sits at back of boot, right against tail gate...and only goes up about the height of a bottle of coke.... no use to stop anything higher.... though very handy to keep carry out food upright :D

Thanks. What I was looking for the anchor points that it ties up to at the top end.

  2. I believe the overall (front and back) sensors kit actually integrates into the on board computer that allows the sensor data to be dislayed throught the sat nav screen as on the GS 300 so that besides having sound warnings, an overlay is provieded on the screen.

    Hence cost and time.........

Not many dealers do this installation on the RX as yet.

  4. Hi

I have a 2 month old 300 SEL and have just noticed that the windscreen has developed a crack coming from the driver side pillar two inches below the top - the crack starts from the heated element inwards. No visible external damage that could explain the crack.

Anyone else had something similiar to this ?

Also for replacement, would it be advisable to go to dealer or windscreen replacers for replacing and from experience how much ?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I have been in the Windscreen Business for 25 years and sorry to blow your theory, but there is no heated elements in your front windscreen. Very few manufacturers actually incorporate proper heated windscreens (outside of Ford ironically enough), but in those car models that do have them, it is virtually unheard of for a heated element to cause a crack.

    There are 2 possible causes-

    1. An impact. Not all impacts leave a mark. Your car may have been safely parked

and an oncoming vehicle flicked up a stone causing a small indentation which

has probably grown to your attention as a result of vibration and/or

        expansion/contraction from temperature change.

    2. Incorrect installation. Cracks caused by this usually manifest themselves

within the first few days of ownership, and given the build quality of Lexus I

would say that you are probably looking at an "impact" being the cause of your

        woes.

As regards Dealer v Specialist, its simple, use a reputable specialist. Your dealer will only subcontract the work to them anyway. Do insist on an original screen if your Insurance Company will cough up for one. Check with the specialist if a windscreen repair is possible. There are certain areas of the screen where it is not possible to repair a crack (ie directly in front of the driver). If your crack is in a suitable region and is not too large or old, then this is the best course of action in terms of cost, time and general inteference to your car.

    Thanks for your narrative.

Following inspection of the subject matter, the matter has been accepted by the dealership as stated and work (replacement) carried out under warranty.

  5. Not laughing.. just that when I took it back to the dealer I was with the guy the whole time testing various phones.  They didn't actually do anything else and certainly didn't upgrade any software.  Plus, that visit to the dealer was over a week and a half ago, which would not explain why my system would suddenly start working by itself on Thursday morning at 6am when it didn't work before or even after the visit back to the dealer...

The bluetooth name identifier is, however, configurable.

I'm still perplexed as to why it's working now and didn't work before when nothing has been done to either the car or the phones in the interim time... very weird.

    L.

Interesting - I had my RX in for some warranty work to be done on it. Bluetooth related issues were on the list - conectivity, compatibility and sound quality/volume. Now I seem to have stable connections with a 6310i, V3 and HP H6365 PDA and sound quality is good with scope to increase volume without distortion.

Good yours is working and hope it stays that way - in traditional terms it sounds line a loose connection (!) problem.

  6. You will find perhaps that the software is now upgraded - I say this because my original paring was under the name of "Handsfree" and now under "Bluetooth handsfree". Care to check ?

Kinda hard for the car to upgrade the software by itself... unless someone from Lexus came out in the middle of the night, broke into the car and upgraded it that way ;)

The name of the pairing is configurable from the telephone settings menu...

    Handsfree

    Bluetooth Handsfree

    Integrated Handsfree

and something else which I can't remember off the top of my head.

I've been using the name "Integrated Handsfree" from the day I got the car.

Still.. it's been working perfectly all day today as well.. must have been a bunch of gremlins who decided to :tsktsk: off and find another car to mess up :)

    Leland

Very clever, still laughing !? anyway, my car has been to the dealership and been upgraded. That has also resulted in the identifier being changed. Drove a brand new GS last week and that had the same identifier as what mine now has after the upgrade - just putting 2 and 2 together. No changes carried out by me.

  7. Which is the best phone that can be used to connect to the RX400H? I have a Motorola but it does not work as well as I would like? My old Nokia 62301 works a bit better. Is Sony Ericsson T610 the phone to go for?

    Cheers

Right - my local Lexus dealer has given me some information that may help you select what BT phone you may want to pair with the current RX 300 (which in software terms should be the same as the 400h).

Lexus award a star system and 3 star is the most compatible to the RX system whilst 1 star is ok. These are the phone that are available (to my knowledge) in the UK that are in the 3 star category -

    Sony Erricsson K700, K750i, S700, T68i, T610, T630, Z600, Z1010

    Siemens S55

So there you have it. Hope it works for you.

  8. Hi All,

I have recently purchased a RX 300 SE Navigator, my first lexus. love it!!

I have found that the quality of AM reception is not as good as the FM stations. I always  have to increase the volume, also seem to get some distortion.

    Has anyone else noticed this.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Manoj

Get nothing of the sort on the sel - may be it is due to the mark levinson sytem in lieu of the Lexus standard fit - This may sound absurd but adjust the treble/bass settings to your liking and FM/AM will sound just about as good as CD.

Sony Ericssons work very well. T610 :crying: that's way too old. I recommend one of the following: Sony Ericsson K750i, K600, V600, V800.

My Sony Ericsson K750i is 'paired' with the car, but as soon as I try to send contacts from the phone to the car, the connection drops. Sony, Lexus Customer Services and my dealer have not been any help at all in offering any suggestions as to what the problem could be.

The connection is meant to drop so that you can transmit data to the car base unit - once transfer is complete, normal BT connection should be re-established in 5-10 seconds. Problem generally you will find is that after transfering 3-4 line items (say on a 6310i), the phone and car need to be re-set to work normally.

  10. Same here - I would have thought that we would have the right direction to break through the phone/satnav block by now, be it from the maintenance manuals or something !

Is there a maintenance manual for the 300/400 ?

Is there nobody out there who has some inside info on this - key is it is software driven and there has to be a code to "fix" it ......

    Tony

  11. Colin

No visible damage in the area that could suggest a chip or sort - that would surely leave a dent or something. That is why I suspect that the use of the heaters earlier in the week when we had some frost could have triggered it.

It will be interesting to see what the dealership say - this sort of thing can easily fall into no mans land ....

    Thanks. Tony.
