  1. would you believe it my boot lock has done the very same thing, so now its permanently open :tsktsk:
  2. actually the door lock is fairly different, for one its no where near as easy to get to, access is very poor. Saying that I did almost manage to remove the handle and lock assembly, unfortunately i ran out of time. The lock and handle is held onto the body by 3 nuts and a small plate that is held in place by 2 small screws. The problem was in disconnecting the handle from the bar that moves when the handle is lifted. Anyway I think its the lock that's faulty. it just will not budge from the '/' position I have disconnected power cables etc but I think the lock is seized. Anyone got an idea how much a lock is going to be?
  3. Hi all, just tried my driver door lock and the damn thing won't turn, well it did a bit, then just decided to stop. So now I can't lock the door the slot that you insert the key into is set to '/' this angle. I went to the passenger door and it locks itself but doesn't lock any of the other doors. I have to manually lock the back doors and the driver door using the door lock near the door handle inside and then lock the passenger door with the key. The boot lock works ok with the key. I don't have the key fob to lock it automatically as I was mislead when buying the car but that's another story. Any idea what's going off?
  4. Glad we could help, nice tutorial as well, I can't remember that many steps but its is all a blur now lol!
  5. Cheers maneesh, would have been better but for the poor battery life and some better time management lol!
  6. Hi all I have made a short slideshow on how i fitted my brake discs: Fitting Lexus GS 300 SE brake Discs I've made some of the slides display fast to shorten the show, but you can pause, rewind etc to read the text and study the images a bit more. PS: they are rock solid now, no judder or steering shake. ;)
  7. Thanks for the info I consider myself enlightened lol Ok I now have the new aerial in. I had to take the aerial apart and do it like that, it wasn't too messy just have to control a curly strip of nylon while trying not to get covered in grey grease. Needless to say I won the battle and now have glorious TrentFM booming out. Thanks for the tips help and advice.
  8. A guy called levo21:GS300 Grooved front Brake Discs The only issue people really have with this ebayer is slow delivery he has 99.6% feedback which considering his sales is pretty good, I got mine within 3 days if memory serves. You can either buy via ebay or contact him directly on 01246 559933 or go to their website WWW.CRN-UK.COM best regards Lee
  9. Is this front discs? They are not actually fixed on at all - you will need to completely remove the caliper and it's carrier (bolts behind, it's not difficult to do in principle, though the bolts themselves are often extremely tight!). The discs themselves are then only stuck on by their own rust, copper grease etc. Tap them with a rubber mallet, if they still won't come off - then make *absolutely sure* you have bought the correct replacement discs, and belt the old ones with a metal hammer until they see sense and come off... To put the new ones one, clean up the hub behind thoroughly, smear copper grease onto the surface, and pop the discs over the wheel studs. Use a couple of wheel nuts to hold it flat into place while you remount the carrier and caliper, then remove those two bolts and remount the wheel. When replacing the wheel, make sure to tighten the nuts in the correct order, which is bolt 1, 3, 5, 2, 4 (ie opposites) to make sure the disc stays flat against the hub - this avoids driving with the disc out-of-true which causes it to warp. Hi mike many thanks for the guide, yes they are front discs I also have the brake pads (mintex) to go with them, will have a go tomorrow. and let ya know how I get on. If I have time I'll take some pics and make a short guide. I had originally purchased some very nice discs but upon inspection and a bit of cleaning it had a small fracture in the disc side. so i sent those back and got some from a supplier on ebay recommended to me by a mate who also has a GS300. Cheers
  10. Hi all I have got some new discs and pads; had them a while and just getting round to fitting them, has anyone got a step by step guide? I have taken the wheel off to have a quick scout around but not sure how these discs are fastened on? from what i can see, I have the wheel bolts sticking through the disc and two; what look like allen key fasteners either side of each bolt but they look round not hexagonal I have tried using an allen key but it doesn't work. I downloaded a service manual but its worse than a haynes book. any help would be grateful cheers
  11. Hi all, where do I find the colour code for my P97 GS300 its a burgundyish colour? I think its Ruby Pearl and the code is 3L3 but need to know where to look for it before i order touch up paint. And where is the best place to by touch up paint? oh! by the way I found this little link for Toyota colour codes, listing Lexus cars as well: http://www.toyotareference.com/ ;)
  12. my system doesn't seem to have AM, it has LW/MW and FM. I know on some systems they have an AM and a DSC button if you press these together while turning the ignition to on it will activate ANT on the display and the aerial will come out easily. But mine doesn't have these and I wondered if there was a similar way for my radio type.
  13. Ok phoned Lexus Nottingham, took me 5 attempts, got passed to service, bodyshop, service then parts, and still got no joy. They wanted me to drive over so the mechanic could tell me how to do it while he was there. Apparently I'm not responsible enough to take instruction over the phone; after all I am only 45 years young. So, it looks like I'm stuck with a bent aerial, a new aerial, and a 'remove the whole damn thing' job. So much for 'Just whip it out' hey Raykhan, just noticed you're from Bournemouth, I bought my Lexus from there.
  14. Well I now have several radio stations from France through to luxemburgh, I must say the belgian language is very soothing Anyway to the task in hand; the Aerial ain't letting go, I cannot get it out no matter what station its on, it always winds back a few cm... its about as reluctant to come out as a virgins knickers are to come down. I've had the rear passenger door window open, my snooker cue strategically positioned through the window between the headrest and seat and on towards the On/Off button. Neighbours gave me some funny looks but I just carried on. For half hour I tuned into every station I could find, but twas all in vain, so its back to square one people. Any more Idea's guys? I'm going to phone the Notts Lexus Garage tomorrow see if they have a few tricks I can try. Watch this space...
  15. Cheers RayKhan, will let you know how I get on, steve wright here i come lol!
  16. Now thats a lateral way of thinking, what's the posh word for upways thinking lol! finding the highest signal would be great Raykhan, would be much appreciated.
  17. Thanks for the reply Keith, I have tried to remove the mast but just as it seems to be coming out it pulls it back in again by a small amount, I didn't want to force it out for fear of damaging the gears. will have to try again tomorrow
  18. Hi peoples, anyone know how to remove the aerial mast on a Lexus GS300 SE Auto (P-97)(Mk-I I think) I have tried but at the last second it pulls it back in. I have read a tip somewhere else that you can press 2 buttons AM and DSC and the radio will Display ANT and it will expel the Aerial fully, but I don't have these. I have looked in the owners manual I can't find anything about aerial removal best regards Lee
  19. Randy reindeer, will check pistons first Like the look of those discs @111 very nice
  20. hi webbbr, yeah pretty sure, it only happens when braking and the discs have a small ridge on the outer edge which would suggest they have worn down to the minimum width and as a consequence are beginning to warp.
  21. Hi all, I have noticed the steering wheel shakes when braking from approx 60mph, I think I need new discs, so, where's the best place to get them? don't want to spend too much, but would like reasonable quality. Also are they easy to fit and are there any instruction to do so? Best regards Lee
  22. Ok I did a stupid thing today... the old 'Keys in the boot' trick, I had gone to pick my bro up as his car was in for a service and he'd asked me if I'd take him back to pick it up. Just prior to me taking him I removed an outside light for him. I got the drill out of the car and let the boot close, almost immediately I felt sick as the realisation of my stupidity hit me. Fortunately Bro was in the RAC and one phone call later and a 5 min wait and Mr RAC appeared, within 1 minute the door was open; A plastic wedge, a pump up bag and a piece of stiff wire and pop. I thought Lexus were difficult to get into? he even told me where to get the gear he used.
