Does anybody know how to get the rearview camera to stay on while moving forward ?

Why you may ask ? It could be useful when towing.

You can by accessing the "hidden" menu which has an option to adjust the camera settings. The problem is that as long as you are in this hidden menu, all other functions of the integrated system are disabled (i.e. no NAV, no radio, no CD, no Bluetooth, etc.). Probably not practical for what you're wanting.

Found a rather frustrating issue with the factory-fitted alarm in the RX400h...

Two scenarios:

1. Leave the windows down and sunroof open... do NOT lock the vehicle. After about half an hour or so, the car doors lock themselves and the alarm arms itself. Of course with the windows and sunroof open, the alarm then sounds a couple of minutes later because of the ultrasonic sensors.

2. As above, but DO manually lock and set the alarm, but pressing the button on the overhead console to disable the ultrasonic sensors. Works fine for half an hour, then the doors DOUBLE lock themselves (similar lines to #1 above) and the Ultrasonic sensors are reactivated ... of course the alarm sounds a few minutes later.

In this hot weather, there are times that I want to actually leave the car open, for obvious reasons -- especially if I'm in the immediate vicinity of the car.

Anyone know how to override the "mind of its own" behaviour?

When you say the US hidden menu, do you mean the one from the volume screen (top left, bottom, left, etc..) ? If so, not tried it yet but will try tonight.

That'll be the one ... would be interesting to see if by changing the "country" of the system you can actually access the US version of the hidden menus, and thereby access the US hacks/work-arounds :)

I've just tried changing this (tried changing it to US). No noticable differences when driving, and when i look back at the screen, it's reverted to Euro RH.

When setting it to US, it didn't make the US-"hidden menu" available then, I take it?

It does let me change the startup screen from Lexus to Toyota - very useful! : :D

Useful maybe.. but what it's useful for is another matter ;)

And since it’s a hybrid it should be London Congestion Charge exempt (but isn't).

Mine is.. and we went through a hell of a lot of hassle back and forth between TfL, Powershift, and Lexus GB to make sure. All paperwork and proof of exemption is now in hand.
