  1. You are probably right, but if we do nothing, you remove any dissent and backlash for the crazy zealous things they continue to enact.

This country already has a lazy attitude to politics and the reason we have power man run away Governments is that WE let them get away with it.

Only by chipping away at their policies can we undermine this attitude. The other track is to vote with your feet at election time...another area WE are lazy at, and wonder why these idiots continue to run our country.

  2. Dear fellow Lexus owers,

You may have recently heard about the Governments new introduction of a surcharge of at least £15 for all persistent offenders.

    Daily Mail 30th March 2007

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...66&ito=1490

The money form this charge is for victims of crime but will mainly be put into Domestic Violence victim support initiatives for the purpose of employing counsellors to take alleged cases to court.

Sounds an honourable cause to fund, but shouldn’t perpetrators of violence and abuse crimes be the ones paying this charge, and not criminalised motorists who happen to clock up more that one offence?

In today’s high tech world of speed cameras it’s far too easy for a motorist to be labelled a persistent offender and then wind up paying additional fees on top of any fine and penalty points accrued to Domestic Violence schemes.

How can it be right for motorists to pay a surcharge for abuse crimes when they have not perpetrated any such a crime?

If you agree that this policy is fundamentally wrong please sign this online e-Petition:

    Many thanks,

    David

  3. The kids round our way are complaining that grown middle age men are breaking into bike sheds and stealing their cool silver dust caps. :D

I had 3 stolen in one evening and the fourth must have been spared due to them being disturbed. I have removed it. Busy fitting tracking devices to a new prototype cap which I will fit and then track down the thief with GPRS and club them on the head. Yes I know that is over reacting, but someones got to teach them a lesson :winky:

Was tempted to leave the fourth cap on my dash as a frustrating tease to the returning theif, but you know that is tempting a scratch or smashed window. Glad my car isn't made of dust caps...it would vanish bit by bit and be gone within an opportunist week.

  4. Cheers for that. but was looking for feed back to see if anybody thought some paintwork problem as read somewhere a guyy's wife was laughing at all that money for rattles and crap paint!

Well in my experience the paint on the new IS is very weak. I have the Cadoxton Slate, and it too scratches easily and exposes fine white undercoat at the mearest of brush pasts or door bangs. :crying:

Also, my paintwork has been seriously damaged by bird crap. :tsktsk: The roof has many scars and the passenger door is marked by acid damage from bird muck. I spoke to the dealer who said it is not covered under warranty and I should call their bodyshop for a quote for a full body buff. :whistling:

Not bloody likely ! They are part of the SmithKnightFay group, expensive and cow boys.

I have just purchased a pack of Quixx polish and will try to polish out one of the marks to see if that works.

I have had a Lexus IS200 Sport (Met Blue) from new for 3 years and never had these problems. Parked the car under the same tree, same bird muck (well same feeding area & birds species), and no such damage seen.

:excl: Conclusion: The new IS paintwork is rubbish !! Weak and not fit for purpose. A bit like the old IS original wheels and lacquer... Lexus had to replace these for the UK market, after many complaints of early corrosion.

  5. thats a fob off if i have ever heard one

Yep, exactly what I thought and I showed them that was what I thought as well.

Problem is, the damage my deal has done to my car in the past, makes me reluctant to use them again for anything major. And unfortunately the other main dealer in Greater Manchester gets worse reviews than the one I already use. So I dread having to take teh car in, as it inevitably comes out worse off :tsktsk:

  6. Nice trhead. I am a middle of the road customer, neither deleriously happy or very upset, yet I feel I have had more hassle with this car than any other I have owned, and my previous was a new IS200 Sport which I had for 3 years with only the alloy wheels giving me grief, and they were swapped under warranty.

I have just bought a 3rd car (partner already has a BMW Mini Cooper) because the Lexus offers no practicality. Sure it looks and drives nice, but I can't take the bloody thing on holiday. Off to Cornwall for a week and need to take 3 kids 4 bikes, camping gear and my girlfriend>!

Solution, spend £3k on a Toyota Estima Jap import. Do my holiday and sell on afterwards.

So I guess its about cars that are fit for purpose. The IS 2xx is fit for looking good, driving well, and above all else reliable engineering, mostly squeak and rattle free

  7. My manual petrol SE has a clunky box around 2nd & 3rd, but not so noticable if you are driving the car harder with higher revs

When I spoke to the dealer about it, they suggested clocking up 2k miles as this was a bedding in thing....right !! sure !!!

Anyway, still a feature that hasn't gone away. Would love to hear more about the mod, if there actually is one :shifty:

  8. Sorry not jumping, just asking :duh:

I know some people like these fin aerials, but the IS doesn't need any type of antenna. If you want a shark fin, don't bother with an aerial and drilling holes etc, just get a plastic add on for that Jaws effect :D

Perhaps there is a market for fibre glass shark fins, alternatively pop down Newquay and rip a fin off an old surf board. :winky:

  9. Just out of curiosity did everyone who has been and had the seat belt recall done get a bottle of champagne?

My seat belts were done last week, deal provided Champs and £20 petrol. Sad news is they knackered both pillar trims and it had to go back two days later for repair !!! :tsktsk:

Got another bottle of champs :duh: and a free replacement rear alloy wheel, due to my previous one having a scratch caused by a gate post hinge bracket. That was a freebie for the hassle I have had.

They washed it but never dried it so came back with water spots dried on !!! not impressed as I had only washed and polished it the day before, so no need for them to wash it ! D'oh!

  10. My centre speaker is distorted after replacement

B post rattles both sides...intermittently at Motorway speeds

Satnav area rattles and creakes come and go...

    Not pleased!

So they do or they don't...and mine does!! Though the original ones are gone now after their fix. Still not 100%, and I fear it won't ever be!

My centre dash rattle was fixed and not returned after 5 months. HAd the seat belt racall work done and the passanger pillar still rattles.

  11. :tsktsk: Mr Angry here !!!

Just got my IS back from the dealers. They finally fixed the damage they caused to the console, and it all appears as good as new, got a bottle of champs and a full tank of petrol too, so you'd think I'd be happy.

Well, they did the seat belt recall thing, and now that has caused a whole new problem...they have broken th elugs that hold the side pillar trim on. That is the white fluffy trim near the seat belt. So when you open the door this is now no longer firmly held in place by a plastic clip and is now flappy. I noticed it straight away when I opened the driver door, as I wanted to see if they had adjusted the door seals, as I had reported increased wind noise of recent.....

Just checked the passanger side, and the same damage to the clip there !!!

On top of that they tell me I need to get a quote from their body shop for a full body / panel buff to remove the bird :tsktsk: stains !!

They are picking the car up again next week, and I am seriously thinking of ditching this Lexus main dealer, as they clearly have a monkey with hoofs for hands employed there.

  12. By coincidence I have my car in the Lexus dealers today to repair the damaged dash and gear console, after the rattle repair was botched.

While it is in, I have asked for the seat belt recall to be done, and pointed out the bird crap marks on the door and roof. I have washed the car and used a polish but the marks remain, and like mentioned above it looks like the lacquer is etched by it. I tried a small bit of T-cut on a small area, and it brought the crap mark to a lovely shine, but didn't shift it all all.

So I have several corrosion marks caused by a bloody wood pigeon, and one shiny one caused by me!

I'll let you know later what the dealer said about the marks.

  13. Seems like what started as a thread to redress the balance and record all IS's that have been rattle free, it is still mainly a list of rattle reports. Does this say something about the wonderful new IS?

I think it says that a lot of effort went into design and comfort, but the QA in the build was lacking sufficient testing to achieve maintained quiet interiors. The fact is, the cabin is so relatively quiet, all new owners are going to be super sensitive to the sound of a new squeak or rattle.

The rattle reports don't in my view undervalue the Lexus quality, but show how high expectation are for Lexus owners, and how Lexus needs to strive even harder to maintain their standards.

In reality, I could like with a rattle if it wasn't for the price tag I paid for it. Then again, it is not a Ford Focus or a Fiat, so we do expect better...as standard.

  14. Cheers, excellent advice. I will give that a whirl. Just need my reg docs to come from DVLA and then I can wear the new plates. Definately think I'll use the screws.

I presume if I buy another car the holes are going to be in the right places, or is that just too much to ask?

Either way, it sounds like the sticky pad option doesn't really allow you to move the plates between several cars without causing some damage, and new plates each time, although costly, isn't too much to expect.
