  1. Dropped in the dealer today and they told me that the woffle noise (sounds something like wingwong) coming from the back is the tyre noise. But it's weird that my friends one did not do it, we both have the same tyres (Dunlop Sport directional 215/45/17). Could the quality of Dunlop tyre vary within the same tyre model ? Can someone with this tyre hear the winwong noise in their car regardless whether the windows is closed or opened ? Thanks for any comment

  2. my exact same scenario... journey to work takes me no more than 25 minutes... my bum is heated for approximately 4 minutes :( of the trip.

That doesn't seem right, my seat heaters get to full temp in less than 5 minutes

I only use them as they nicely fill the gap while the climate control gets up to full operating temp, which in fact is usually after just under 10 minutes.......

As I've learned the operation of the heated seat is based on thermostat and the outside temperature. The duration is longer and it turns on itself often if the outside temperature goes below zero degree.

  3. I have not experienced this mate. Mine is a 2001. I never knew there was a 'sport lux' model. What year was this sport lux?

Mine one and the one I drove yesterday is from 2005. I think Sport Luxury started from 2003, not too sure. Just wondering whether the Sport is intentionally tuned to roar like the hell. As I was told the difference between the Sport and Sport Luxury is the full leather seat, 11 spoke alloy, HID head light and head light washer on the Sport Luxury model.

  4. Have any "IS200 Sport" owners driven any "IS200 Sport Luxury" before ? If so, do you feel any difference ?

Happened to drive an "IS200 Sport Luxury" from a friend yesterday. It was bloody quiet and comfortable compare to mine. Very low engine noise, smooth and the seat is very soft indeed. My "IS200 Sport" is about seven months newer but the seat and the back support is very hard like a rock that is killing my bottom and back after hour of driving. The engine noise is a lot loader even revs lightly. And most importantly is the "woffle" noise coming from the rear that really makes me headache and drives me nuts. With or without the windows open you can hear the noise coming from the back or coming through rear windows. The noise is really disturbing when driving at night, the noise is best observed when the car is going between 25 - 38mph (40 - 60km/h) with little or no acceleration apply. Does it also happen to your IS200 Sport or just mine that give this awful feeling

  5. Whenever I doubt a car which might cause dent on my Lex I noted down the rego number and take picture if I have a camera with me. I always tried to leave a big space between my Lex and the other car in the parking by sticking my Lex as close to the wall that I have to get out through the passenger's door sometime, however a big dent still occurred one day on my return to pick it up ;) I managed to find the owner since it was in a hotel. It was a doctor and when he saw the dent on my Lex, his first reaction was like and shout like a gangster "This is nothing, look, plenty of dents of every cars. Have you got proof ? Did you see I did it ?". Anyway, that was logged with the local police that would give him a bit trouble though.

  6. Had a little dent on my old car, in the drivers front door, managed to pop it back by using a slim jim. Slip it down between window and door and turn it very gently, just popped straight out.

What is slim jim mate ? Can it be used for dent on the rear bumper ?

  7. Thanks all, you guys are definitely more experienced in driving IS than myself and all the comments are terrific. To conclude, I would say that only 30% of people still like the old IS while 70% are going for the new IS. It sounds like I should keep the IS200 a little longer and enjoy its good characteristic before I lose it. Besides, IS250 has missed out the door pockets on the rear doors which is quite convenient that I need it sometime.

  8. How often do we need power in general. I think a car with more than 153kW of power is more than enough for majority. The number of people who owns an IS300 from this forum is probably around five percent. This shows that the demand for power is very low indeed :D

If I really need more power I would consider a GS rather than the top IS which is of a lower class and look similar to any other IS in the distance.

  9. Lexus (Toyota) seem to now make all their motors this way and have to use high Revs to truely make them perform, but they do Rev quiet freely as no doubt you have experienced on your 200.

    Good luck.

Why would they make all their motors this way now since high Revs will definitely cause engine to wear faster according to the rotation friction theory.

  10. Some of you will know that I have been experimenting with Carlack68 (KLASSE AIO) and P21S Carnauba wax.

This is the first time I am uploading images, so bear with me...and they are low RES (VGA) to get them onto Imageshack...

The Jazz had been autowashed throughout winter. It was very badly swirled and lost all of it's lustre. There were bristle marks all over it! One application on Carlack68, and one application of 21s Carnauba - that was 2 weeks ago. Today was the first wash and basic chamois dry - that's all - and the water was falling off like polished glass...in spite it having been caked in grit etc...

AND it was blooming cold out there (but no snow...yet!!).

If anyone knows a better of way of uploading images, please let me know!!

Now I can't wait for the new car...I'll shove some piccy's when that finally arrives!

Do you use both Carlack68 (KLASSE AIO) and P21S Carnauba wax at the time, so which one goes first, thanks

  11. Thanks guys especially Tango, tonyp & rap03 for the great input.

The reason for the input is because I'm still fighting within myself whether to upgrade to IS250. I've got the IS200 from brand new a few months now, still way far from first schedule service. For the IS200, I just don't feel comfortable, soothness & luxurious when driving it, and with heaps of engine noise and exhaust noise tyre noise that drives me crazy ;)

If I test drive the IS250 I might force myself going for the IS250 but I don't want to lose that much money just in a few months

  12. Thanks guys for clarifying the unit value for UK & US gallon. No wonder some people in this forum quote way far more for their mpg (fuel consumption) than the others, probably one is referring to UK gallon while the other is referring to US gallong.

Here's what I've came up with the calculation for UK gallon

Miles Per Gallon to Litres Per 100 Kilometer

    1 mile = 1.609344 km

    1 gallon = 4.54609 litres

If 1 gallon gives 37.2 miles then 4.54609 litres gives 59.8675968 km

    Hence litres per 100 km

    = 100 / (mpg * 1.609344 km / 4.54609 litres)

    = 100 * (4.54609 litres / mpg * 1.609344 km)

    = 282.48093633182215859381213711922 / mpg

    ie. L/100km = 282.481/mpg

and mpg = 282.481 / L/100km (Thanks eXOBeX for the correction)

Where mpg and L/100km is a number quoted for fuel consumption.

Similarly for US gallon except that 1 gallon equals 3.785411784 litres not 4.54609 litres

  13. Everything is better, i found it hard to believe it was from the same manufactuer haha

For me it was very well balanced car to drive :)

Not sure they ironed out some of the smaller details like rattles etc... but no major biggie!

I've learned that almost everything is better but how much better in comparison that you would score it.

  14. Does anyone know the formula to convert between mpg & L/100km ? Do you guys use gallon as 4.54609L, 4.40488377086L or 3.785411784 litres in calculation ?

Just wondering why it use miles per gallon for fuel consumption while the petrol pumping at the station measure in litre. Isn't it a bit hassle that one has to convert it to gallon in order to calculate for fuel consumption after each refill (If we want to know) :D

  15. How much better is IS250 over IS200 in terms of the following priority ? Please do not include or compare the standard features, eg. stereo, interior light, auto wiper, keyless entry etc.

    1 - Comfortable

    2 - Smoothness

    3 - Performance & Handling

    4 - Feel of luxurious

    5 - Fun to drive

For the above five factors only, many percentage do you think that IS250 is better over IS200 ?

    Thanks for any comment :D

  16. You Could go to another dealer tell them it out of warranty and then see what thay find :D then hit them with its still under warranty :o and you must have got your dates wrong :D

All service history and warranty for each Lexus is kept within the database. When a Lexus arrives at a dealer for service, they will type in the rego number that will reveal all the detail including warranty expiry date :D

  17. voltage reading means nothing; what you need is someone with dedicated power meter (Amps are what you need not voltage) and only specialized device can measure that or regular multi-meter device but again only when you are starting the engine

V = IR, ie. current is directly proportional to voltage. Hence if the voltage reading is dropping so as the current. If the voltage reading maintains above 13.2 volts while the engine is running, your alternator is still in good condition. Try to observe if you can see any voltage drop while driving. If you drive the car daily and the reading drops below 9 volts while turning the ignition key then your Battery is dying.

  18. The tinting would be dealer fitted, (not factory).

Did anyone consider the extended warranty, I think it is an extra 3 years for about $1800. Not sure if it gets transferred if the car is sold.

The extended warranty is transferrable to second owner by completing a form and send it to Lexus Australia. It's always wise to have the extended warranty as it keeps the value of your car at the time of sale.

  19. Believe it or not, I did all the calls and chase up when buying the current Lexus. They promised to ring me but never did in the end of the day.

I've seen many complaints and compliments about getting the Lexus in other posts of this forum, it would be great that it all be moved into this thread and the link be sent to the management of every Lexus Dealers.
