  1. You could go private and save a few quid, but make sure you get a thorough AA or RAC inspection carried out before parting with your cash. Remember - It's a Lexus so it's not going to be cheap to fix if it turns out to be a dud. If you don't do the above, then at least get a HPI check on any recorded history.

    I would steer you towards a lexus dealer for a good used example. It's worth just looking at the used car search facility on Lexus.co.uk to get a feel for what is on offer. Non metallics are always cheaper as are those without Sat Nav.

    I toyed with the idea of getting a used one, import, or buy from Trade Sales. In the end I felt better to spend a few thousand more and buy a new one from the Lexus dealership - but that's just me!

  2. Hi Javajude, i live in Hounslow, although i know of trade sales as i looked there before ordering from a UK Lexus dealer. The prices quoted at Trade Sales are for the basic spec. If you want an Auto add £1200, if you want metallic add £300. You then have to add their indemnity charge, road tax, number plates etc. in the end it does not end up being such a good deal. They do have really good deals on some cars but not the Lexus range.

    I was also told by Lexus dealer that all IS 200's that come in to the country need to have their alarm system configured to the Thatcham requirements. This can and is only be done by Lexus GB and therefore the imports do not have the same security setup as UK sourced. This was confirmed to me by Lexus Insurance who said they would not even consider insuring an imported Lexus.

    All in all, i paid about £1000 more at a Lexus Dealer than at Trade Sales. I think it was worth it, especially as i got the three year warranty and three years RAC cover including Europe!

  3. Hi, I picked up my new Granite Sky IS 200 SE on Saturday. What a great car, although it should really have a memeory function on the seats.

    Does anybody have an IS 200 with automatic door locking. The IS range in the USA locks the doors automatically as soon as you hit 10mph. I assumed that this would be the same over here??

  4. I saw a yellow IS300 in Florida recently and it really looked naff. Just looked like a standard production car with no class. Back here in the UK, i saw another two yellow IS 200's being sold at Trade Sales in Slogh. They looked as naff as those in the USA. Lexus - have a re-think!!

The security issue does bother me as i am in outer London, but i am in two minds as to whether an additional £700 is worth it, especially as my insurance company does not offer any tracker discounts. I have tried quotes from other insurance companies that do offer a tracker discount, but these are always more expensive than my current insurance company. Should i risk it???????, or am i imagining the risk??

  6. Hi all, my friends are all telling me that it is a waste of money fitting a tracker to an IS200. It seems i can only get unbiased views from this forum. Could you please answer the following:

    On a standard IS200 SE (Brand New) would you spend £700 on a Tracker, or be happy with a $70 Disklok sterring lock, or none of the above?? thanks.

  7. Hi, thanks for your comments. I'll give it some more thought before i decide. 'Unfortunatley' i do live in London! It seems to me that most people do not have a tracking device and are happy with the Lexus security. Could you help me a bit further and tell me what type of stering lock you use. When i looked on the Autoexpress website, the DiskLok came out tops. Any experience with this or others. Thanks.

  8. I was under the impression that Tracker & RAC Tracstar are the same thing?? My question really is not which type of tracker to install, but whether you guys are happy with the IS200 security, and whether yours cars have attracted the attention of thieves. Basically, is it worth spending £700 for a tracking device? Thanks for your help.
