  1. cheers, aye its a lesson you only need to learn once. I can't say i'm well up on voltages etc. but i would like a line that shows minimum voltage required to start car. By the way what voltage would that be?

Well, I'm no auto-electrician so I can't give a definite on that, but it's current (amps) that you need, not volts. As the Battery discharges, the voltage will stay around 12v for quite a long time, and then fall away fairly quickly as it becomes depleted - that's why the voltage doesn't necessarily tell you how much charge you have. I think if you're much under 10v you will have trouble starting it.

that a pretty good explanation. thanks.

  2. Quick question.

After having the stereo running and the air con when the engine wasn't running i managed to drain the battery until it read 6V thinking it would still have enough juice left to start the car. To my surprise it wouldn't even attempt to turn over, i left it for an hour and still it wouldn't turn over so i got some jump leads and problem sorted, its now reading 12-13 V.

is this normal? if so then why dont they have a warning area showing when the battery isn't capable of starting the car.

Yes, it would be normal. By the time the Battery reads 6v it is VERY flat. The voltage is not proportional to the amount of charge ie 6v doesn't mean it's at 50% capacity.

There's no warning because they don't expect you to do it, and besides, you find out soon enough :)

The voltmeter is to show you that the Battery is being charged but it doesn't really indicate the condition of the Battery.

  4. Just had an E-Mail supposedly from eBay saying my account is in arrears and demanding immediate payment or my account will be suspended.

It's a scam, the link goes to some dodgy Rumanian site.

    Be warned folks.

apparently if you click a link by these 'phishers' they can see your internet history and see what sites you have been to, if you have been to any bank sites they can then make up realistic looking fake emails.

NEVER CLICK ON LINKS IN AN EMAIL FROM SOMEONE THAT YOU ARE NOT 100% SURE ABOUT

  5. men have a word input limit.

You better start practicing looking genuine, nod and if you really get into trouble give her a compliment like 'is that a new top?' or 'i like your hair like that'. then quickly change the subject. rinse and repeat.
