  1. OK Guys , how much difference have people found with the A/C on ?

I have only had my IS200 6 days topped it up twice when down to half a tank 24.5 1st time 27.9 2nd.

My last car was a Honda Accord 2.0se VTEC and that did 29mpg constant whether you drove it like a Sunday driver or drove it like a boy racer.

Do you find the IS MPG changes depending on driving style ?

those Vtecs are great engines, i found them more frugal than these VVTI's. The IS is a heavy car so if you want 30+ mpg use super unleaded like Optimax and keep the revs low. 6th gear at 40miles an hour should do it :hehe: . Or just love the car and give it what it wants :winky:

Havn't noticed AC making a diff although i havn't owned the IS car during a hot summer yet. /pray

  2. With recent events in the news concerning nonces and the like it seems that we are entering a new phase of 'derranged depravity'.

Sorry to hear about your daughter.

    lets not start panicking !

i believe that there isnt an increase in this kind of depravity, in fact i believe there is a decrease in it, what we are getting is an increase in reporting of the incidents, and awareness of them

these nonces have allways been around, and allways will be, but by pre warning children and adults the incidents are reported and steps to reduce can then take place

i think it is on the increase. because of the internet fellow sickos are starting to feel normal in their own little world, they are finding similarly minded people to egg them on to commit these unspeakable acts. becoming more brazen if you will. True, the media plays this field very well, it is cheap to produce, gets maximum 'heart strings' pulled. That said, this problem isn't going away and needs attention.

Violence begets violence, castration could make someone even more twisted. lobotomy? its a very cruel thing to do but so is exposing yourself to school children? I wish i knew the answer to this problem.

WIM, hope your daughter and family are doing ok, stay strong.

  3. wondering if having an electrical device (headrest DVD player basically strapped to your head) behind your head is a good thing. Sure they may be shielded (?) but is it a good thing? I suppose modding is like heroin, you dont care how much money you spend on it or what effect it has on you/neighbours/friends/family/job as long as you can keep doing it. Some ppl can handle a bit of brown but some go totally nuts.

    Looks damn cool though.

  4. gotta love crumple zones. Looks like a bad crash, it looks like a newish micra from what i could tell, those micras are EUNCAP rating 4 which is great for a small cheap car. Those ratings really are a very good reason to buy or not buy a car. I'm about to be involved in buying a car for my gf and this just reminded me what i should really be looking for.

glad to hear everyone is ok.

  5. i find a tape cassette box is a great scraper (the cover/opening part, its pretty handy to hold and you can always find one lying about). As for that 'hotshot' device my one concern is that ice ruins wipers and as it wont cover the entire windscreen with hot water your wipers will suffer and need changing eventually.

otherwise hot water or de icer are what i would use if i had access to either.

  6. Does anyone know if the Irish postal strike is still going on please?

the postal service aren't allowed to strike so they have 'go slow' days/weeks or most of them just pull sickies. This has the unfortunate effect of creating a lazy atmosphere in the workforce and has ruined the postal service in this country almost beyond repair. It can take up to 3 days to get a letter to a business 10 miles away  the average is around 2 days.

  7. i have a witnessed a few red deisel testers on the roads over the last few years in Ireland. They are pretty technical and take their job very seriously which should mean that they can trace part per million/billion and verify that the car must have gone through at least x amount of fuel/miles since it last had red deisel in the tank. This should get your sister off the hook if caught unless of course the car is being sold to her with red deisel in the tank.

  8. It is a bugger that i have to keep switching to manual mode in this weather. I would have thought it may have been on an intelligent circuit or perhaps taking into account BST and BWT??

Has the is250 changed or is it the same?

All i ever see is volvos with their lights on even in decent daylight conditions, now that is a poop auto system.

isn't the Volvo an always on system?

i love the auto light setting.

  9. as a new member and new lexus owner i found all i needed to know here and more. The different sub forums really help to locate what you want to read up on without the 'im new, how do i do this?' threads.

I'm really enjoying the new IS250 threads which hopefully will be my next investment once i get the beans together.

  10. well the car was tip top, i got to see it before they valleted it too. Took it for an hour drive and tested everything on the list plus all the clutch, gearbox and brake problems that i read about here. This site was great for giving me the confidence to know what to look for, in fact the dealer was taken aback about how much i knew. (he is a mate of mine). A good few stone marks on the bonnet and bumper which he has promised to respray, as they are the main dealers and have a proper spraying shop i'm hoping its going to look like new. The best news is I got it for the price of a 2001 with 40k on the clock. :). I know about the 80k/8year/12month pre-owned dealer warranty which suits me fine as i'm a light driver and hope to upgrade to a 250 in a couple of years.

My Lexus owner experience starts on Friday and hopefully its a long and prosperous one. :winky:

Thanks again for hosting such a brilliant site.
