Ran through from full to empty (75 litres including the contents of the spare can). 468 miles. Is this now officially a competition?

OK. Finally did the deed - Full to empty with a spare can in the boot. On filling the cruising range showed as 432. After 100 miles, cruising range had dropped to 335 - pretty much in line. After 120 miles, cruising range dropped to 210 - wha? Kept going. Full light finally came on at 380 - range now 30 miles. The last 30 miles are always pretty forgiving so it took until 425 for the cruising range to fall to 0. Kept going. Finally made it to 468 miles before she started to splutter. Interesting to note that adding the 6 litres from the petrol can did not reset the distance after re-fuelling or the mpg - obviously below the minimum that whatever sensor that is inside the tank can read. PS. Took 10 more miles to get to a garage and then 70 litres to fill her back up again. Before the questions start: Of the 468 miles, approx 250 (Leicester/Swindon/Nottingham) were Motorway - 75-85 ish (or stationary) Of the rest, mixed driving, mainly Grantham - Nottingham centre. Only problem now is that I can't remember why I set out to do this! Going for a lie down now.

So how many miles are you getting if you are pootling around town on short journeys and stuck in stop/start traffic all the time? I don't live in London so rarely get stuck in traffic for any extended periods of time (although Nottingham has it's moments). Still get around 26 mpg according to the 'puter though. (32/33 mpg on motorway stuff - normally around 70-80, cameras permitting). Have come to a decision. I'm going to squeeze as much fuel in as I can + a spare can. Then I can run right through to empty and see how far I get. 80K service is due any day so I'm not too morried about gumming up the fuel filter. Let's see how it goes... Had a Mk1 before the one I have now. 350 miles from a tank is pretty good. PS. I am an old man.

A 25K+ a year man with a late 2000 GS300. On mixed driving I get around 380 miles - and can only manage to squeeze around 63-65 litres into the tank at the end (assumes running the trip range down to zero, and sometimes a little beyond. Toying with the idea of running to empty just to see how far I can go as the tank is supposed to be 75 litres. On a really long run I get 430+. There are some heavy right footers out there!

You should also check out the speed cameras in you local area. With a GS430 you really need to know!

Go North Young Man. We're having a water party this weekend. Everyone brings round a hosepipe, and just switches it on for the hell of it. and you get a free whippet to take home afterwards. Enjoy the sunshine.

OK. Another tankfull (ish) goes by and the thot plickens... At 305 miles the low fuel light came on and the cruising range showed as 30. At 335 miles the cruising range had dropped to 14. At 363 miles the cruising range finally dropped to 0. Filled up 6 miles later - 369 miles @ a reported 28.6 mpg (for the tankfull). Took 62 litres - right up the neck of the tank. Capacity is supposed to by 75 litres - there's definitely a family of algerians living in the tank. Calculated mpg is 27. Buggerdifino. Saw a Volvo S80 T6 driver this morning - brand new, obviously just picked it up - and the look on his face when I parked next to him was a picture - the guy was green and walked away with his shoulders slumped around his knees. Who needs good fuel consumption when you can have moments like that. Cheers

My new GS300 Navigator (series II) is confusing me :duh: According to the spec sheet this car has a 70 litre tank (I make this 16.7 galls give or take). Over the last 1,000 miles the mpg shows as 28. Should be around 470 miles on a tankful then, right? Leave out 30 so as not to run dry and I would expect to be filling up at 440. Never that simple though is it. The trip computer tells me that the range of the car is around the 400 mark when full. This then drops off to 30 after about 320 miles. Mysterious... But then lo & behold, the car will only take around 55 litres to re-fill it - with a lot of effort to drip-feed the last 5. What gives? Have I got a small tank (I know how the guys in Tokyo like to play around with specifications)? Is there some trick to filling the thing that I haven't mastered yet? Am I carrying 15 "dead" litres of fuel? - would be a crisis in an F1 car. Steve

Now this is good news - spotted one onebay earlier today - a TNS300 - is this the same one? Thought the LOC had a policy on bad language! The GS has more class in the contents of the ashtray than anything that has ever come out of Munich.

New (to me) GS Navigator + Planned trip to Ireland in the Summer. No problem I here you cry - The DVD SatNav system will guide you serenely from door to door. Wrong! I got the end of 2000 facelift model - it is DVD and does include all of mainland europe but not Ireland. Lexus tell me that the newer updates do - but that their update DVD will cost me £217 +VAT. Having just spent £9K on the car, the cupboard is pretty bare. Does anyone have a "nearly new" DVD that includes Ireland - don't really care if it has the latest UK road changes - just the extra 50 miles to County Wicklow. My father-in-law will p*** himself laughing if I can't source this from somewhere & I'll have to hang my head in shame and buy a small french family hatchback. Thanks in advance

Eyup, Another Steve here. Just replaced my long suffering series I GS300 with a shiny series II Navigator. Taking a break from learning what the differences are (manuals are for girls) and now i'm trying to figure out how all the LOC web site features work. An interesting distraction. Cool things I found today - the change tray... a lttle button and a spring-loaded whoosh rather than the slider that was in the old s1. Love It. The Sat Nav - learns your preferred route and stops giving you the heavy traffic way round. Bonzer. Have a few q's for you guys in good time - my "new" late 2000 model doesn't have a Navigator manual and my amatuerish sleuthing isn't paying dividends yet on some of the goodies that I suspect will be hidden behind that georgeous touch screen (gets stroked more often than the wife, I'll tell you that for free!). soooo, how do these d*** smiley things work then......
