One is for the aerial connector, the other is the backlight dimmer if your aftermarket stereo has that function
so you mean they go into the new head unit?...what about the aerial connector?
No mate, the blue one (aerial) needs a scotch lock to the thin black cable on the aerial harness in the car. The orange one needs attaching to a circuit that dims, mine is attached to my edfc controller but you could attach it straight to the dimmer switch by the drivers leg.
hmmmf...sounds a bit technical...i thought it would be a simple plug & play operation to bypass amp to now h/u.
-
so...to get to the amp..and attach the bypass lead, you only need to squeeze the glove box sides to release it?....is that really all it takes?

hey iceman...did you figure out where exactly to attach those two extraneous leads from the loom?....i guess there wont be any detailed instructions

its a ***** playr but im still amazed at how its built its a 6cd changer n player in the space of single din amazing how compact it is
pitty it dont work tht well LOL
yeah, amazing technology, ***** piece of kit....
tbh, i am gobsmacked that lexus seem to just pass this all off as nothing, and accept no responsibility. After all this is a LUXURY top of the range motor car, built to the highest standards with the finest materials...isnt it??
The CD unit has a design FAULT, it does not perform as it is supposed to, under trading standards regulations they should be held accountable, surely.
and furthermore, i cannot get my head around the reaction of Lexus owners to this problem...Oh yes, err3 problem, very common £300 for repair...there you go, have a nice day...i meeeeean....come ON!!!
no-one seems to know just what the fault is...and what exactly constitutes a £300 repair bill. I bet there is a reset switch somewhere and someone is taking the mick, its tantamount to extortion.

err3 is generally a jammed disc, just take the top off and take the cd out. you may need to cut it out but then all will be fine . ive done it with mine. if your not sure. send me the unit and i can get it out.
i had err 3 which had all 6 discs in there, i took out the unit & managed to retrieve them, but since then it still thinks its fully loaded. Did yours reset itself after you got the cd out?

Err 3 was supposed to be mostly on the older headunits that have the CD loader at the bottom.... newer units with the loader on top are supposed to be fine.... which one have you got?
As for it being something else..... i don't think so, as a few guys on here got their units "reconditioned" internally and all seems fine now.
You would be mad to purchase a brand new one as they cost Hundreds and hundreds....
Get yourself a nice aftermarket unit, bit more involved fitting it to an SE but theres supposed to be a good adapter now available on Ebay... :)
i wouldnt think of buying a new one..i just wanted to put things into context, it just seemed very coincidental that his unit showed exactly as mine did.
i do have the option of £275 repair of my unit i guess...or replace with aftermarket+adaptor lead.
Still not sure about whether people like the new sound. and the cost would be about £200+

hi all
i bought new 13902 h/u from eBay, to replace ERR3 unit on mine, guy said i could collect and see it working (fair do's).
Took my car over, switched units, but as soon as i plugged in, all 6 cd's shown as loaded and ERR3 came up when CD button was selected...EXACTLY the same fault as on my unit.
NOW...here's the thing, the guy was adamant that he had seen the unit working and i have no reason to doubt him. SO...do you think it is possible that the fault may lie somewhere OTHER than the head unit?
if i were to purchase a brand new unit, for example, and plugged into my IS200, you think it's possible that i will get the same error?
-
I was quite liking this model...seems to have everything, i dont want Bluetooth or anything like that, but it has power, HPF & LPF, MP3/WMA...even looks like u can change colour..
what do you think?
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/p...ts_id/4499.html
and...are you all quite happy with the IS200 setup just using the lead and the head unit?
-
that would be excellent!... i am in south yorkshire
...and you still get good bottom end?...and what head unit are you using?
-
i hope tis thread is not dead now....i am holding out on buying this wiring kit and h/u until i can get a good concensus...
my h/u went err3 a while back (£275+ for repair), so this is why i am thinking of new h/u and wiring loom.
BUT, if the sound is going to suffer, AND i m spending £200+ for new kit, well.....what do i do??

I recently fitted the amp bypass cable people are talking about (IS200 Sport) with a half-decent Pioneer stereo (nothing special, 50w per channel, no additional amp and kept all stock speakers) and in my opinion its better than the stock headunit (but not that much better). And yes it does drive all the speakers.
I am sure you will get better sound with new speakers but I upgraded primarily to get aux-in for iPod not for amazingly better/louder sound. I thought the stock HU/speakers are good so for me the new headunit alone is fine. Mine does have more adjustability though so you can send low-range or full-range to rear speakers and tweak bass output in various ways to get the best out of it using the stock speakers.
Hope this helps people decide what to do without doing/spending too much.
sounds like good news codlord, which pioneer h/u you get?...i like the fact you can adjust low range etc for the speakers.
...so just a straight forward swap and no real reduction in sound quality?
-
Thanks iceman, do you still get the solid bottom end that you get from the oem system?...and would the aftermarket h/u drive the speakers ok?..
-
the amp controls the headunit on the is, not the other way around, all the headunit does is house the tape deck, cd player and the radio, functions, the controls are on the HU but the electronics that control the volume etc etc are in the amp
if your going to replace the headunit, the only real option is to remove the amp, and speakers and rewire them in, the std speakers are designed to be run with the lexus system, there not the common ohm rating so its a half hearted job just leaving them in, in my opinion
the rear speakers are split to a sub and midrange, abd are fed seperatly, although mounted together, so if you run a normal signal to either the sound will be distorted, the split in frequencys is done in the amp
Thanks monsterMat...brill reply, straight to the point, just what i need to know!...any tips on replacing/rewiring speakers?....i am quite happy to leave stock spkrs in, to avoid the hassle
the ISO lead only works on the S model cars with no external ampI dont mean the standard Iso lead...maybe i am using the wrong term...this is the lead off eBay, designed to bypass the amp on IS200 SE.
-
anyone know if the ISO lead powers all 8 speakers?....and whether the speakers get all the frquencies at once?...
-
so just coaxial all round'?...or comps etc?.
in light of comments about how the lexus is put together, i would rather poke myself in the eye than try to replace any of the speakers.
So the ISO lead sounds fantastic, but i was curious as to how much work would be involved. and what the options are..
any other thoughts?

Hi all
Very interested in the ISO lead for IS200 SE, (ERR3 on mine). Couple things i wanted to confirm
1) i thought the internal amp split up the signals & distributed them around the speakers, and that was the problem with replacing the amp. and also what made the system sound so good.
2) most people who have replaced h/u with after market models are presumably running from h/u now, hence full frequencies to all speakers?
3)is it possible to install a new amp? and how would that work out with he existing speakers? ( understand that the rears are separate units with different ratings.
sorry there's a lot to go at, but i want to replace my faulty h/u but dont want to sacrifice the great sound.
cheers

Hi all, i've been offered a second-hand IS200 head unit to replace me err3ed one. They both look identical (cd player at the bottom) although i have only seen a photo of the possible replacement. However, the code no on the front of each is different. The one from my IS200 S is 13901, whereas the replacement has a code 13902 on the front. Does anyone know what this difference may mean. is it possibly from an SE/SPORT and if so does that make it incompatible with my S.
yeah, i think i can help with this..the 13901 refers to IS200 s model with out the external amp & only 6 speakers. The 13902 is the model for the IS200 SE.
Lexus Sheffield told me that they are NOT compatible.
cheers

I have had err3 on my unit and intend to buy a used unit to replace mine (Is200 2000reg) i have seen a couple (bottom slot, as is mine) but the numbers are 13902. the number on mine is 13905. Will either of these be compatible?...i understand that the connectors are different on some. and you should match up the numbers on the unit. Does it have to be an exact match?
cheers in advance

Hi everybody!
i had the err3 error over the weekend while i was on hols... no mechanical sounds at all..anyway, got home, removed the unit (thanks for the instructions) and managed to get all six CDs out.
NOw i have put unit back in, it still thinks it is loaded up..so cant do anything!
My question is... is there a way of resetting its 'memory'?...i disconnected Battery lead, but no joy.
Mine is 2000 V plate, IS200 SE
cheers

Thanks alot for your comments guys. I had them check this out together with a couple other niggles and they say it needs regassing and are making arrangments for that, so fair-do's i guess. (watch this space).
Incidentally, is regassing required often?
-
Thanks you guys...i had it checked out today by the garage who sold me the car and they say bearings etc are ok and could be tyres. Your comments seem to bear this out (bear?? get it??). Anyway, although i am still a bit suspicious, i guess i'll hang on till tyres need changing and hope that cures the problem.
Thanks again for your comments

if the air con is that bad may just be down to the filter no need to go to approved dealer and spend a fortune getting it checked replacing the filter is something you can do yourself (Providing it is only the filter) i've had my IS200 for 3 weeks and love the air con something im not used to coming from a Fiat Punto 1.2
IF THEY SAID THEY DO 127P CHECK GET THEM TO COUGH UP FOR IT
Hope this helps
its certainly worth a try before i start barking at them..thanks, i'll give it a go
