  1. I agree with that, sometimes ive used the advice given to point me in the right direction and find its not quite the problem, from now on I'll finish off the job !!

talking of which, has anyone read my leaking steering problem,I,m off away for the hols and leaving the car with the garage, would like to point them in the right direction to keep down the cost

Sorry for the slight post hi-jack. Ian

  2. I know ive read it on here, but my search techniques must need something else,I developed a leak yesterday, stopped at lights after a motorway run and smoke every where, pulled over and had a look while engine was running, fluid was dripping down the offside of the engine just behind the front wheel,it was power steering fluid and although ive not had chance to do a proper inspection,I.m hoping its this o ring thats mentioned before, steering is/was fine no noise or heavy steering,no rack leaks so hoping it not too expensive a job, when the reservoir is removed is this where the screen ive read about is located???

Help and advise would be appreciated, cheers Ian

ps. If it helps,it only appears to leak when the engines running, does this point to the o-ring or something else, sods law,it happens just before the holiday AGAIN !!!!

  4. I use the original wheel and tyre combination in winter as the finish has gone to the dogs,so have a set of chromes with tyres that I normally switch myself, but owing to a busy w/end and a bolt through the side-wall in the old set I went to them with the others in the car and had them change them, nipped to the bank while they fitted them and then off on a two hundred mile trip, noticed it over the next few weeks and as said,I thought it was a roll-bar bushing job, feel really stupid now though for not checking the most obvious thing, one good thing though,I'll have the bushes when their required, Cheers. Ian.

  5. Thought I was going to have to spend on the celsior again, over the last few weeks I,d noticed the back end getting skittery on bumpy corners, and unless Ive got it wrong I thought it was perhaps the roll bar bushes ( right or wrong ??) even got so far as checking out the options on the famous auction site, then discovered that all the bolts on the n/side rear wheel were loose,I know its a bit slack (pun intended) but I never checked the most obvious thing, then things clicked,I,d had my summer wheels fitted 3 weeks ago and one wheel cant have been tightened correctly, how only one was missed I,ve no idea but i dread what the expense would have been if I'd have lost the wheel, and luckily no damage was caused to the stud holes.

Pretty damn lucky I reckon. think it will be the trolley jack next time . DOH. :duh:

  6. cleaning the car over easter and in the engine bay( 91 celsior ,stood at front facing the rear),i appear to have a sensor(light grey in colour), of some sort hanging loose near the air con pump,on closer inspection it's broken away from its backing plate on what appears to be a mounting bracket above the air con pump slightly behind and above the belt pulley,it seems to be a self contained object which is now hanging on the only wires attached to it,simple connector with two wires, about the size of your thumb end,no numbers or markings on it unless their on the side thats still fastened to the mounting, looking at the open side of said object, nothings visable only the usual stuff they fill these objects up with, looks like sealer ?? everything still works,no warning lights or anything unusual, but it,s bugging me now, will see if i can get a picture tomorrow when its light,I've taped it up to prevent it getting caught in the belt, but any ideas would be appreciated.cant see anything on my service disc' I'll pass it over to you super sleuths.

    yours, Ian

  8. "Ian - job well done i'd say. Even if you don't have a nice set of stamps on the service book to prove that you have been mugged, still keep your receipts to how that you have been servicing the car, its still just as good. Thats what I do."

cheers goldfinger, love the car but the servicing costs give me nightmares, but apart from diognostics I cant see a reason for using the main dealer, plus with mine been the import they dont seem interested in helping anyway, get more help and advice from this site,so take a bow fellow forum posters. Ian.

  9. Does anyone know roughly how much it costs for the 120,000 mile cam belt change on a LS 400?

I bought the belt /pulley's and water pump (may's well change it whilst its in bits ) for £100 off e/bay and spent a leisurly day with the spanners and workshop manual, now having done the job and it all went back with no bits left (unusual)bring on the next job,if you need to keep the s/history upto date with a lexus stamp then best get out the wallet and take a comfy chair,if you search around on here there's plenty of comments about service charges and someone will know doubt be along to add to this one !! cheers. Ian

  10. Hi mate

Does the alarm etc work, what years the car because there's loads of posts about failed central locking and fobs, mines a 91 import and hasn't worked since I got it,tried all the usual things, new fob,battery's,re-set info found on other sites, nothing seems to work so it looks like an aftermarket one being fitted which could be cheaper and probably better than the 16 year old original !!

    Ian.

and regards to parts it depends what your after,I,ve sourced suspension from the usa and electrical from japan and europe and even the odd UK breaker

just ask and someone will have a saved link or idea !! good hunting.

  11. never had a problem, then came home tonight, reversed into the drive, turned off the engine (as normal, then as I got out, popped the boot switch, NOTHING, :crybaby: you can hear what sounds like a relay in the general area of the switch but nothing at the back,it opens with the key ok,nothing shut in the lock mech, locks got plenty of lube on,the valet lock on the panel isnt on and the fuel cap opens ok,am I right in thinking its an electronic release not a manual ie cable ??? so now wondering if there's a fuse for said lock,as my books in japachinkyese anyone have a look in there's and check it out for me

awaiting with baited breath. Ian :whistling::whistling:

  12. on the american site its much discussed and it appears that you will be dazzling oncoming traffic with this conversion on the earlier ls's but been american it also advises them to try to locate european light units which have differant lense patterns ! DOH

over to anyone thats done this conversion

having said that, mines a 91 import and this week ive been doing night commuting and if no oncoming traffic use high beam ( no problem) using dip beam ok but can you stop in the distance you can see with these new lights.obviously not seeing the new merc embedded in a fallen tree on a straight road after he'd followed me up my exhaust for 2 to 3 miles then shot off into the distance, did I laugh,no cos the git blocked the road for an hour till some one came and shifted him, and no, i didnt grass him to the bobbies but i sure as hell told him what i thought of his driving !!
