  1. Britain to Denmark (long way through France, Belgium and Germany) around 1000 miles....all this a week after buying the car and getting it through an MOT. The back again three weeks later.....total mileage in the first six weeks of having the car was 3500 miles without missing a beat.
  2. Thanks for your help mate. Managed to order today from Lexus Sutton......just over £13.00 plus VAT.
  3. It's got the sport wheels but the rest of the car is just a normal 300 with the normal front grille.
  4. Will it come with the retainers that hold it to the grille automatically or are they seperate?
  5. Anyone know how much a GS300 mk 1 Grille badge would be from the main dealers and if it comes with the retaining clips. Also does anyone have a part number for these all these items?
  6. Yeah I had a very relaxed stay.....it's just the coming home thats the disappointment. The seats are leather.....it's a shame I find the seats so uncomfortable because I like the car alot but they just cant compare for comfort with a Big Volvo, Saab or even dare I say a Rover 800 for comfort!
  7. Not long back. Car purred like a kitten for the 3000 mile trip. Car is still making that high pitched whirring noise though but it can't be anything serious because it would have shown up on the journey. I have to be honest and say overall I've been a little disappointed by it. I don't think they are all that fast, the seats are not very comfortable at all, the lack of memory on the seats is an annoyance when you've got an other half as small as mine. I think the look of the car is good, the layout of the dash and switches is very nice, Stereo I've been very impressed with. Fuel comsuption has also been very reasonable. Engine has not used a drop of oil or coolant and it passed the 230k mark coming back down the M25. Overall I think Lexus is a great engineered car but I think I'd have an LS-400 next time. I'm so disappointed by the comfort of the seats I'm thinking of selling already. If anyone is interested drop me a line. Please tell me the seats are different in the LS400 and mark two 300.
  8. Thanks chaps. Wish me and the car luck and I'll hopefully speak to you in three weeks time after having hopefully a troublefree holiday, if you hear from me before then I've obviously had a problem and I've had to use the internet to ask advice! I'm then going to get to the bottom of this noise! Oh and some b*****d has had my soarer griffon badge on the front grille away...might get one of those Lexus ones off ebay presuming they fit straight onto the grille and get it sent to Denmark while I'm over there.
  9. Car passed the MOT! Not until I had to have the front pads as well as the rears changed and the one front caliper replaced and the other had a new seal kit fitted (other couldn't be repaired due to a scored piston). Total cost including service and MOT.....£475 Which is gutting to someone who would have done all the work himself if it wasn't for time constraints. Missus is taking car to the transmission specialist for a full service. Have noticed the whirring noise I thought was the pads rubbng is still there.....sounds like its coming from under the gearbox....I'm thinking maybe the propshaft? The gearbox drive 100% and there is no variation to the noise as gears change or speed increases so I'm kinda discounting that. Not so noticable once the stereo is playing but it is annoying and a little worrying.
  10. In France? Had its service today. It's had to have a new Caliper and front brake pads as well. Is now going to be MOT'd tomorrow due to that.
  11. Got the service tomorrow afternoon and then the MOT on Tuesday. Fingers crossed it gets it through.....its got to go 1000 miles on Friday!
  12. Picked up the brake fluid cap from the Main Dealers in Sutton Coldfield. Good friendly service (they called me as soon as it had arrived) and not too badly priced just over a tenner....Saab would have charged £25!
  13. Any ideas on the idle speed chaps? I have searched previous posts but most seems to mention uneven idling. Mine just seems a little high in idle....its purrs like a cat!
  14. Thanks guys....the Rover weren't bad either! Is 36PSI the same even if its fully laden and taking on the autobahns?
  15. Still looking for the correct tyre pressures for the Sport alloys with 10" rears. Meanwhile heres some pics of the car as requested: Heres one of my old previous 250k mile plus vehicles.....its still going strong now....should be in a museum!
  16. It seems looking at the receipts that the spare has had its tyre replaced at the same time the other tyres were replaced by National Tyres as I still have the receipt.....clearly they didn't consider it a concern. Its got a GS300 non-Sport alloy with a 225/55/16W Pirelli P6000. The other alloys are 245/40/18Z front and 275/35/18Z rears on Bridgestone Potenza's. Please tell me its safe! I dont want to be having to have to find a spare Sport alloys as well as the other bits I'm sorting. Car is spending next couple of days having the screen done. Then Thursday its off for a transmission flush and refill. Mondays it off for the service (all filters inc. fuel, diff oil, rear pads (I'm supplying the oil) all for £174 plus VAT at a Jag Specialist by me...sounds reasoanble to me...well as reasonable as servicing I could do myself gets!). After the serice full MOT which I have got my fingers crossed it passes. I noticed today as the I took it to the windscreen place that the viscous fan was making a bit of a noise on start up and it was idling at around 13/1400 revs...been up since 4am so didn't have the inclination to investigate further. :tsktsk:
  17. What can I replace the spare with? Do they do a spacesaver spare on the 18" wheel Lexus usually? If so agai where can I get one. Would a 16" really be dangerous as a spare? Bear in mind although the alloy is smaller the profile of the tyre is bigger.
  18. The story so far! Picked it up a few hours ago. Car is lovely and really has real presence especially with those 10" rear alloys....the pearlescent bodywork looks great too. The only flies in the oinkment are the following: There is a high pitched grinding noise similar to what you hear when the discs on a car that has been standing have rusted up....I thought this was what it was as the car has been standing a while but even a couple of miles from home after bringing it home 45 miles it still made the noise. The cap is missing for the brake fluid reservoir....where can I get one of these from? If I go the main dealer route will I be talking big money. I'm going to have the wheels off and stick some copper ease on them...what are the torque settings and sequence for the tightening of the wheel studs (GS300 Sport 18" 10" width rears) On the MOT failure sheet from June the rear brake pads were mentioned as an advisory. I'd usually do this job myself but wont have the time before taking it on holiday next Thursday...how much will I be looking at for new rear pads and how long will they take to fit. The spare is a 16" normal non sport wheel alloy....would this be OK in the event of a puncture. My handbook that came in the Lexus wallet with the car seems to only be for the normal 300...theres no pictures of the sport in the book and no 18" sport alloy tyre pressures....does this sound right or is it me not reading the booklet right....the front of the book just says GS300 ownewrs manual...no mention of sport. How much labour will I be looking at for a fuel filter change. Thanks...Simon
  19. How many gears does the autobox have on a 1993 gs 300 sport have? Also what is the fuel tank capacity and where is the fuel filter if it needed changing?
