Not long back. Car purred like a kitten for the 3000 mile trip. Car is still making that high pitched whirring noise though but it can't be anything serious because it would have shown up on the journey. I have to be honest and say overall I've been a little disappointed by it. I don't think they are all that fast, the seats are not very comfortable at all, the lack of memory on the seats is an annoyance when you've got an other half as small as mine. I think the look of the car is good, the layout of the dash and switches is very nice, Stereo I've been very impressed with. Fuel comsuption has also been very reasonable. Engine has not used a drop of oil or coolant and it passed the 230k mark coming back down the M25. Overall I think Lexus is a great engineered car but I think I'd have an LS-400 next time. I'm so disappointed by the comfort of the seats I'm thinking of selling already. If anyone is interested drop me a line. Please tell me the seats are different in the LS400 and mark two 300.

Thanks chaps. Wish me and the car luck and I'll hopefully speak to you in three weeks time after having hopefully a troublefree holiday, if you hear from me before then I've obviously had a problem and I've had to use the internet to ask advice! I'm then going to get to the bottom of this noise! Oh and some b*****d has had my soarer griffon badge on the front grille away...might get one of those Lexus ones off ebay presuming they fit straight onto the grille and get it sent to Denmark while I'm over there.

Car passed the MOT! Not until I had to have the front pads as well as the rears changed and the one front caliper replaced and the other had a new seal kit fitted (other couldn't be repaired due to a scored piston). Total cost including service and MOT.....£475 Which is gutting to someone who would have done all the work himself if it wasn't for time constraints. Missus is taking car to the transmission specialist for a full service. Have noticed the whirring noise I thought was the pads rubbng is still there.....sounds like its coming from under the gearbox....I'm thinking maybe the propshaft? The gearbox drive 100% and there is no variation to the noise as gears change or speed increases so I'm kinda discounting that. Not so noticable once the stereo is playing but it is annoying and a little worrying.

It seems looking at the receipts that the spare has had its tyre replaced at the same time the other tyres were replaced by National Tyres as I still have the receipt.....clearly they didn't consider it a concern. Its got a GS300 non-Sport alloy with a 225/55/16W Pirelli P6000. The other alloys are 245/40/18Z front and 275/35/18Z rears on Bridgestone Potenza's. Please tell me its safe! I dont want to be having to have to find a spare Sport alloys as well as the other bits I'm sorting. Car is spending next couple of days having the screen done. Then Thursday its off for a transmission flush and refill. Mondays it off for the service (all filters inc. fuel, diff oil, rear pads (I'm supplying the oil) all for £174 plus VAT at a Jag Specialist by me...sounds reasoanble to me...well as reasonable as servicing I could do myself gets!). After the serice full MOT which I have got my fingers crossed it passes. I noticed today as the I took it to the windscreen place that the viscous fan was making a bit of a noise on start up and it was idling at around 13/1400 revs...been up since 4am so didn't have the inclination to investigate further. :tsktsk:

The story so far! Picked it up a few hours ago. Car is lovely and really has real presence especially with those 10" rear alloys....the pearlescent bodywork looks great too. The only flies in the oinkment are the following: There is a high pitched grinding noise similar to what you hear when the discs on a car that has been standing have rusted up....I thought this was what it was as the car has been standing a while but even a couple of miles from home after bringing it home 45 miles it still made the noise. The cap is missing for the brake fluid reservoir....where can I get one of these from? If I go the main dealer route will I be talking big money. I'm going to have the wheels off and stick some copper ease on them...what are the torque settings and sequence for the tightening of the wheel studs (GS300 Sport 18" 10" width rears) On the MOT failure sheet from June the rear brake pads were mentioned as an advisory. I'd usually do this job myself but wont have the time before taking it on holiday next Thursday...how much will I be looking at for new rear pads and how long will they take to fit. The spare is a 16" normal non sport wheel alloy....would this be OK in the event of a puncture. My handbook that came in the Lexus wallet with the car seems to only be for the normal 300...theres no pictures of the sport in the book and no 18" sport alloy tyre pressures....does this sound right or is it me not reading the booklet right....the front of the book just says GS300 ownewrs manual...no mention of sport. How much labour will I be looking at for a fuel filter change. Thanks...Simon
