  1. can you tell me how you got on with Newcastle? Like you I have been reluctant to leave my car for any fixes without knowing for sure that the dealer knew what they were doing. When I last asked about 4 months ago they said they hadn't heard of any problems!!!!! My IS220d is just over a year old, but may have been a late 05 early 06 build, and after 12,000 miles has just started to creak around the front screen and the centre speaker when the car is cold. My car is going in this Monday (26th) - I will be asking them to sort out the rattles (which is going to be difficult because they are intermittent) and also the "squeaky" seats. Lexus Newcastle know that I have had contact with Gill Want from Lexus GB who has assured me that Newcastle will sort it out I will let you know how they do but I've got to say that my hopes are not exactly sky high
  2. Sorry buddy - not I! Basically I always believed that the rattles were coming from behind the face vents in the centre of the dash - above or behind the MM. On a lengthy test drive, the technician having sat both in the passenger and driver seat (obviously driving...) pointed out to me that the rattles were coming from the base of the windscreen area, largely around the passenger side. I agreed as it seemed to be throwing it's voice...IYKWIM! It was at that point that I referred the engineer to the thread from matus and the white cloth. I left the car with them, expecting them to have taken the whole dash apart, identify/fix and refit it. But on collecting the car, the technician had sourced and fitted the density foam. So it was nothing to do with me, other than to tell them about Matus's fix. Hope this helps. Also, when you say the foam has deformed the vents, what do you mean? The foam is applied no where near any vents... @ Lexusjohn - like I said in my note, this is a bodge up, but it works (largely). I think the new IS is either rattly or not, and at least I get some peace and quiet after a stressful day at the "shop". I just cannot be arsked anymore to keep complaining. I would recommend anyone with problems to get Lexus GB involved, show them this thread, and point out that it is unacceptable. My car now is beginning to "crack" over potholes - cracking sounds from the centre console. It is definitley temperature related. I think I actually finally know now that I wouldn't buy a Lexus ever again. But that is based on my personal experience of both the product and customer experience. In fact I wouldn't spend so much money on a car ever again - if Lexus cannot give us peace of mind then we have no hope! Not good...not good at all. PS - just to repeat - it was Lexus Leicester who identified the fix, sourced the foam and fixed it. the only thing I did was refer them to Matus's picture. JambooIn an earlier post you mentioned having a rattle which sounded like a "sugar lump rattling around in a cup" coming from the dash centre - did the foam across the bottom of the windscreen cure this too? - I've got the same kind of noise coming from my dash but it seems to disappear once the car is warmed up.
  3. Northern Boy - did you get your speaker rattle sorted by Lexus Newcastle? - they tell me that they only have knowledge of rattles in the GS model and have no reported faults in the IS
  4. Hi all My IS250 Sport is due for its first service in a few weeks - I have the usual rattle issues - ie from the speaker cover and the creaks from the centre of the dash. I don't want my dealer at Newcastle dismantling the dash unless there is an official "fix" that will rid me of these problems because they could make things worse. Anyone out there had theirs fixed and, more importantly, know how their dealer achieved it? Thanks for any help
  5. I've got the Sport in Messa Red - no regrets whatsoever - deffo the best colour to go for imho :)
  6. This is a common rattle and AFAIK it's normally cured without problem. I also get the rattle from time to time and have resorted to thumping the centre speaker cover which does the trick :) There are two causes one is the entire dash needs removal the second is simply putting some felt around the radio and aircon grill It sounds like yours needs the dash out ALL lexus dealers are aware or these rattles and should be able to fix I have had two done in a year Write to Gill want at Lexus and complain they will send a senior person out to sort the car..HOw old is it? alan Car is only 6 months old and done 5,500 miles - Lexus Newcastle told me that they were only aware of rattles with the new GS - have you got Gill Want's e mail address and I'll give her a try :winky: This is a common rattle and AFAIK it's normally cured without problem. 8. Had my IS250 Sport into Lexus Newcastle for a fix on a rattle which seems to be coming from the speaker cover on the dash - needless to say they have failed miserably and if anything the rattle is now worse. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? - Do Lexus GB have a website that gives solutions to these kind of problems? I know rattles are a huge problem with the 250 but has anyone actually had them rectified successfully? Thanks for any help ;)
  9. As the sport only came out March/April this year it's a little premature to comment about 'early models'. Apart from reports of the odd rattle here and there, nothing negative has been reported. In terms of reliability it's also too early to say, but as the Lexus brand is reknown for quality and reliability I'd be surprised if the second generation IS is any different from the first. There has been a recall on the front seat belt recoil units, but these should all have been completed. The Sport is only marginally different in specification -18" dia wheels as standard, slightly lowered, slightly stiffer springs and alloy pedal set are the only differences as far as I know (someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure). You could always look for an SE or SE-L with leather and the 18" rims (which were available as a dealer fit option) and fit the Eibach lowering kit for the IS250. Sorry I cannot comment on the Sport seats...mine has the leather :D Sport also has adaptive HID lights which would cost over a grand as an option if available. It also has rain sensitive wipers (not sure whether they are standard on the SE model or not) All in all I bought the Sport because it was such good value for money over the other specs. I've driven a base 220d as a courtesy car which had 16in wheels - it made the car look pathetic - in all honesty the ride was not that much firmer in my Sport model.
