  1. I have just tested it on a long trip. The speed cameras show up, but apparently only if you have set a destination and are using route guidance. As soon as you end guidance (by clicking on the X in the right corner, the speed camera icons disappear from the map! So unless I have made a mistake or missed a setting, the speed cameras are not on the map unless you enter a destination. Also, the beep is warning you is only on if you have the voice guidance activated; if this is muted the beep is not sounded.

  3. I had a chance on a quiet carpark to test the whole issue. The sound only occurs when the wheels are moving, whether it is in Drive or Neutral. No sound when at standstill, despite my topic header (sorry about that, must have had persistence of hearing or something). What Ken R said and Caspa just reinforced seems to be the most likely explanation. In addition, I noticed that the sound disappeared at 14mph, whether the car was accelerating or slowing down: 14mph was the critical point. Looking at the AVAS regulations, in the US the sound has to be audible at 30kph, but in Europe it is 20kph, ie approx 14mph. So that looks like proof to me. The noise is still a low level single note buzz: it is difficult to hear the outside noise with the windows down, but I was more sensitive to some additional inside noise that sounded like a normal car engine pulling away. I am not sure whether the hum/buzz noise is a particular frequency of the noise outside, or just a notification of it, or part of the mechanism to activate the outside sound: but it is clearly associated with the AVAS. Thanks to everyone for helping me with this: noise is not annoying as long as one knows there is a reason.
  4. No, I had not given that a thought! Nobody at the dealership mentioned that, and I cannot find any reference to AVAS in the manual: but clearly it does apply to plug-in hybrids as well. Presumably Brexit would not have affected the regulations here. That would fit in well with what might be happening: again, I will check it out when driving tomorrow. I am not sure it makes any noise when actually at standstill. I will have the windows open as well (raining hard here at the moment). Thanks for your suggestion!
  5. I have not been using the AC: unlike the previous NX, this one seems to default to having the AC off on at start-up: probably good, as at the moment the weather not extreme hot or cold.
  6. Thanks: and thanks for saying that the "Traction battery cooler" is a fan, as that would make sense: as I notice the noise at very low speed, that would most likely be when a fan is operating. Also on start up, the fan might not be on if the car is not moving. I will have a chance tomorrow to check how all that fits in. It is that, then is this a factor with full EVs, which obviously have much bigger batteries and more heat. Or is it that I have a noisy fan! I will gather more information.
  7. It is in EV mode at the start, but I think I don't notice the hum until the wheels are turning, so engaged in Drive or Reverse. I will take more notice of what happens at standstill, and what happens if I put it into Neutral if it is making the hum when at standstill.
  8. Thanks I will check on that. It doesn't do it when I first start the car, but I think it does start when I move it. I will test it out when I go out next.
  9. I have had the car for 3 weeks now, and have noticed a high pitched hum when not moving. It's not loud, but it is quiet and noticeable (and my hearing isn't that good at high pitched noises!). As soon as I move off the hum goes. It is clearly an electrical sound, as the car is in EV mode. Happens regardless of the level of charge left in the battery. I thought it might be due to it being brand new, something not quite run in yet, like a flywheel or something. I don't recall hearing this on the test drive (which was many months ago). Has anyone have any experience of this or suggestions or what it might be please? If not, I will contact the dealer to have a look (I am going on a long run at the end of the week so it will have a few hundred miles on the clock then).
  10. Good question! I haven't tried it yet, but changing the setting of Landmark Voice Guidance made no difference. At least the "mute navigation" command worked.
  11. I understand the benefit off voice instructions in areas I am not familiar with, but do not want them all the time, for the following reasons: I would have the guidance system on so that any traffic alerts on my route are available, even if I know the route, but I do not need turn instructions (especially to carry on the same road) I do not want the voice guidance continually interfering with music etc My wife is not keen on having it on all the time as it can get annoying to interrupt conversation I have the HUD for guidance, do not need to look at the map screen Not difficult to see the map screen, especially with such a large display as the new car So for all the above reasons, the voice guidance of not important to me.
  12. Thanks: the navigation volume looks the best choice, but "mute navigation" worked well if I want to have the voice guidance on as a default. I also found a setting in Guidance about Landmark voice guidance (have to scroll down below weather etc). Not sure what this is about?
  13. Thanks to you both for the explanation: the manual was correct, but presented poorly: good to have a direct comparison from you both. I am not sure I can ever be bothered with the S shift: I presume that and the selector makes no difference while on electric only mode, but I cannot resist giving it a go!
  14. Can anyone explain when to use the S on the shifter: doesn't the eco/drive/sport selector button on the stalk do the same thing, especially as I already have paddles?
  15. Has anyone found a way of turning the voice guidance off or even down as a default: in the previous version this was possible, but I cannot find a setting for this in the new car. It is a bit annoying that each time I start the navigation I have to find the mute button (unless there is a voice command I haven't found yet).
  16. Thanks everyone. I was having trouble registering any location as Home, but seem to have done it. I will take my lead from you all and use a nearby roundabout.
  17. I have just collected a 450h Takumi, very impressed indeed! However, the navigation system is a lot simpler than the previous car, but I cannot find a way of inputting the Home address: the manual suggests doing it on the map, but it never seems to register. Any help please?
  18. Just to update you all. My survey required a new isolation switch. However, Eon were terrible at getting anyone out. First you have to give them an hour of your time to describe the meter (they have the information about my old meter, even though it was Npower before they took over). They kept asking me questions about it. After waiting a couple of weeks, after all that, the guy didn't put the order through. So I had to go through that again, and this time after about a month their engineering dept rejected the request, as they did not know what it was for! Even though I kept telling them it was for an EV charger installation. So then I demanded escalation of the issue, kept being told their manager was sorting it out with the engineering dept, but nothing happened. Throughout this time British Gas kept contacting me to see if I still wanted the charger, and what was happening with the isolation switch. After 3 months of getting nowhere I went full Putin, and threatened to contact every board member, make a complaint to Offgen, papers etc! After a week or so they got back to me and suggested the only way forward was to install a smart meter (which I had suggested 3 months earlier), and then got an installation appointment a couple of weeks later. So with the meter changed and the isolation switch installed, I could send a photo to British Gas, who arranged the EV installation. That all went well, although took longer than I thought it would: seems a lot of electrical work!. In the end EON reimbursed me for the isolation switch (£97) and gave me £50 compensation for all the hassle. The outcome is that I have a free charger, plus £50. I have no idea whether the charger is going to work properly as I am awaiting my car: I have been informed last week that it has been built and left the factory. I should get it in time for electricity to be so expensive that I might not bother with the charging. However, I have the charger for the next car, which probably be all electric.
  19. Thanks Adrian. It is the Advanced Parking mode I am talking about: not sure what Lexus calls it: "Advanced" is not exactly clear, as what I really want is an extremely advanced parking mode! I presume it is relatively slow compared to being under human control: I have never needed help parking (apart from sensors, rear camera etc). I think parking in an unmarked narrow garage barely wider than the car would be a bit of a stretch.
  20. Has anyone tried the self parking mode on the new NX, and is it activated yet on the App. I know it is supposed to find spaces and move into them, but would it do this in a domestic garage (anyone brave enough). There is some YouTube videos of Teslas doing it, albeit very slowly.
  21. I am having a Hive EV charger installed by British Gas as the installation is free as part of my purchase of the 450H. BG have been fine, and I did a virtual survey which showed that I had to upgrade my meter with an isolation switch. Unfortunately I am a customer of EON, and even though I contacted them in March, I have still not had an electrician out. As the energy supplier, they are the only ones who can touch the meter. I can't even get a smart meter upgrade. Their so-called energy experts seem to have no control over the activities of their electricians, and have to fill out long forms and send emails. The first person didn't even send the forms off, the second sent the forms off but it was "rejected" as they didn't know why the meter tails needed to be replaced, and now the third attempt has gone into a black hole of no-one looking at it. This week I am now making a formal complaint and going to ring every day until I get someone to come out. How difficult is it to explain that I need the meter upgraded to take the load of an EV charger. If I could switch to British Gas I would just to get all the work done under one company, but no-one is allowing switching at the moment. Does anyone have experience of using EON, and have any useful advice to get this moving quicker>
  22. I have the Premier NX. It is a bit frustrating that the voice commands do not seem to have all the ones indicated in the manual, so that I can easily move between navigation and media screens. While in navigation, it would be useful if I could access the traffic information quickly without having to use the track pad to send the cursor to the tiny patch of real estate that is glowing red for problems (like trying to thread a needle sometimes). On my previous car there was a simple traffic button. Without hard buttons it would have been useful at least to have a simple voice command, such as "Show Traffic", which by an amazing coincidence is exactly the command shown in the handbook under extended voice commands! Maybe I am being dim, but the menu for voice commands does not include extended voice commands: why why why! Anyone know a work around to get quicker traffic alerts on the screen, or extended voice commands? Please help. I do like the car a lot, but I do find the interface somewhat less than easy to use than it should be.
  23. I have also just realised that the lights settings menu (under vehicle customization) does not correspond to the instructions on p636 of the manual relating to Automatic light control system, which actually refer to the time the headlights stay on. The settings I can adjust only go up to 30 seconds, whereas the manual says the headlights can go up to 90 seconds. Is this an error in the manual, or some software difference in UK or Europe? Or is it something to do with my car? Or am I being dim!?
