  1. Speaking of the tailgating, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I too am VERY prone to coming to a complete stop if people are too close e.t.c. I also used the brake light trick once....the guy was parked in my rear seat fag lighter and so I switched on my lights to simulate braking - he must have panicked and slammed on his brakes - it was on a dual carriage way at 70 in the damp but not raining...he sent himself into a spin and ended up reversing across the lanes and backwards up a steep grass bank. too scared to stop in case he got out and gave me 'what for' I legged it. I was 18 at the time and invincible. Now 18 years later I drive my Lexus so slowly I smile to myself when the boy racers tank passed in their Clio with a dustbin lid sized exhaust and a 'supped up' stereo far inferior to my standard Levinson in my 56 Lexus 220d SE with multimedia. Don’t think I’ll need to get annoyed with drivers now – I’m so chilled driving I just let it all go by….so far !!! in
  2. I too picked up my new 56 plate IS220d this week - love it love it love it !!!. One thing that is disapointing for me (and there is a small chance I am talking to the wrong lexus is220d owners here) is the fuel econ. Having have a fistful of toyata avensis's over the last 5 years (6 to be precise - note to myself - must stop changing jobs so often!) I know how good the avensis is for MPG. the 2.0 16v petrol would happily return 39-44 mpg and the 2.2 diesel (which i think is the same as the 2.2 in my lexus) whould return 40 with tthrashing and sensible driving returned up to 58mpg. In contrast with grandad like driving I can't get more than 37pmg from a tank - 50/50 urban/motorway. I assume thing will get better with age / milage / loosening but a bit concerned Thoughts?
  3. Thanks guys. To be honest I was waiting for a flurry of 'oooh you don't want to do that - it is far too dangerous' e.t.c. The reason I want to do this is not to be wizzing down the road at 70mph watching some film. I love my Lexus and drive it so carefully you wouldn't believe. What I would like to be able to do is to watch / glance at it whilst sitting in traffic. Yes, I know once I completely stop and apply the handbrake I can wait 3-4 seconds and it appears. The problem is that I find it very frustrating willing the traffic to stop when crawling at 2 mph so I can stop and put handbrake on without having to annoy the car behind who sees a gap of 10 car lengths appear before I pull off again. To be honest, I don't think I would look at it in these circumstances any more than I currently look at the screen to fiddle with sound settings e.t.c Anyway, sounds as though no-one knows how to make the change which sounds like it is a big job. Thanks for the advice (and any more to come...) Andy
  4. Hi All, having bought my new lexus 220d SE with the multimedia pack, the salesman suggested (unofficially) that the DVD player function could be modified so it plays on the move by doing something to the handbrake to send false signal to DVD unit. Salesman say he doesn't know where or how but did suggest it would invalidate warranty on the DVD unit. Anyone know where I could get this done how much it might cost / if it is possible for someone who can do about any job in a haynes manual so long as it is not over 2 spanners (scale 1-5). Any help very much appreciated. Andy.
  5. Hello all proud Lexus owners... I recently purchased my first Lexus - the IS220d SE. The salesman at one point very unofficially mentioned that it was quite a simple procedure to modify the car so the DVD plays on the move. He couldn't tell me how other than to mention it is related to the handbrake and fooling the system by sending a constant / false signal to the DVD player's brain to allow it to be used on the move. Anyone got any thoughts on how this is done or where I can go to have the mods made???? Second question - WHY is the fuel econ on this 2.2 Diesel (37MPG) worse that my old 2.2 Diesel (54MPG) and my old 2.0 PETROL (44MPG) Toyota Avensis T-Spirt Estate ???
  6. Hi, I looked with interest at this posting but what if you don't have a key to turn - my 56plate IS220d SE is 'keyless'....??? Thanks. (Also any ideas how to get the DVD player to play when on the move - for the wife (obviously!) Andy.
