  1. Thanks for your reply, someone today said the ball joints were a problem on this model especially the sport with the 18" alloys, but if they had play in them surely this would have been picked up on the mot test? Let me know please as soon as you find out what the soloution is. Thanks Mike.
  2. Sounds like a sticking caliper to me i had a similar problem on a normal jz147, i stripped and rebuilt the calipers and that cured it. As long as you take it steady it should be safe (if it is the caliper) but be wary in case it snatches. I have a spare caliper around somewhere but i am not sure which side Thanks for your suggestion but I have had the sticking caliper problem on both sides and sorted that out, they now are free, I am a bit worried to drive it as If I brake hard it veers slightly to the left, along with an uncommanded movement of the steering wheel! Cheers Mike.
  3. Hi Guys and gals I have a problem with my Gs 300 sport, I have noticed a "jolt" feeling through the steering wheel and the wheel moves slightly when the brakes are applied. It only happens while the car is moving forward and the brakes applied, if you reverse the car and apply the brakes this does not occur. It has just passed through the MOT which I thought would highlight this issue, but as he passed it I assumed the car is safe to drive? It feels like it is coming from the n/s front wheel, but I can not be sure of this. Anyone had this happen to their car? and what was the cure? Ta Mike.
  4. I have had a bit of bother with mine too, the problem I have is that the fob will work fine for any amount of time, lock/unlock no problems, then for no reason whatsoever wont unlock with the fob for days, leaving me red faced with the alarm screeching away lights flashing as I drive head down away from home, till it's had enough and stops! I have changed the fob battery several times but this seems to make no difference, I now dont trust it and lock with the key and only unlock it with the fob. Any one had this problem?
  5. The thing is guys this is a 3000cc 6 cyl engine, every car I have owned in this sort of engine size I have seldom achieved more than 20mpg average, fords, toyota, vaxhalls, you name it. Mine gives 100 to 130miles average to £20.00 of petrol which is about 5.1 gallons which equates to 20 to 23 mpg. I dont expect really to get much more than this really for such a fantastic ride and car. :D
  6. :D Right guys I have solved this problem now, I sent my original struts to SGS engineering in Derby, they "re gas" these things, and did mine for £47.00 the pair inc postage which I thought was V reasonable, he also turned them round back to me in 3 days! now my boot pops open when I pull the lever and my back is now safe form being chopped! Anyone who is interested in his service shoud contact andy@sgs-engineering.com Mike. ;)
  7. Thanks Kieth This set came from the states but as has been mentioned are old as well, just been surfing and found a company in Northampton claiing to be able to supply ant gas strut replacement to any car! so have dropped them a e mail. the site is: http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk/components/index.php What a fantastic car tho!! my favourite car I have owned of all time. :D
  8. Thanks guys I didn't think of that DERRRR! that the breakers yard ones might be just as bad, being of a similar age will start the search for a new pair, will ask Pete as you said. Cheers. Mike.
  9. Hi Guys Well They arrived today, my replacment gas struts for the boot lid of my mk1, they were from a breakers yard and about the same age as my car (96) no leaks and seem strong, but I changed them over and the ones that came off seem just the same ie no leaks and strong. However the boot lid still needs a strong army of blokes to lift it and still will fall down in a strong wind, with such a force that it would chop off a childs arm i'm sure if it got in the way. What should I do to cure this.... it's dangerous. I know it's a common problem so has anyone come up with a soloution?
  10. Thanks guys I get the message and it's in the bin, I will put it down to experience ;)
  11. Hi Guys and dolls, I have been on e bay over xmas as you do bored after the washing up has been done etc.. and bought a "performance boosting resistior" for my newly aquired Gs 300 sport 1996 This device is supposed to give an extra 5 to 35 bhp if you can believe it as it woz under a tenner all in I clicked buy now and it's here. The instructions say to either disconnect the battery or remove the fuel injection 20amp fuse before you start, and then find the air sensor plug, unplug it and shove this resistor in, then leave it off the plug. and hey presto more go go! So a few questions for you experts out there. 1. has anyone done this and does it work. 2. If so which plug is it I have to put this resistor into ( there are two 2 wire plugs on the intake manifold) 3. Should I just throw this in the bin before I blow my car up!!! 4. Happy new year!
