  1. My dash tended to rattle when warming up from cold. Cured it by inserting a couple of strips of foam rubber between the front of the dash and the front screen. The foam rubber is black and carefully tucked into position, it is hardly noticable.
  2. Welcome Gerry. To locate the Sat Nav disk, go to the boot, locate the jack and just to the right you will see a black removable panel. Behind this is the eject button for the disk. As far as I am aware, the cheapest update disks can be found at the link below. They are genuine Lexus disks and probably much cheaper than main dealer supplied. You will need the various serial numbers from the disk when you check if an updated version is available for you. I have the 2006 version which has plenty of updated info but the graphics etc are no different if I remember correctly. http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/
  3. I got a pair of flat ones, but admit that I did not try any others.
  4. I tried a couple of the suction type mirrors which attach to the glass of your door mirrors. Very convenient and secure too but the mirror head is quite small so the view is not too good. Settled for a pair of the new Milenco Aero mirrors. They fit the RX mirror housings very well, are well engineered and look good too.
  5. I couldn't say for sure but I would not have thought there was any difference. My dealings at Hedge End were with Julie Adams if that's any help. Actual price all in was £689.
  6. Lexus Hedge end fitted a Detachable towbar to my Mk 2 RX 300 for £650, a good quality bar too. I too get about 18 mpg towing compared with 22 mpg solo. It does much better on longer runs at steady speeds of course.
  7. As part of the service your dealer should carry out a road test. If the lurching is happening regularly they should pick it up. Are you able to accompany any road test? For info my 2003 RX has shown no signs of any such problems in the 3 months that I have owned it.
  8. Thanks for your replies, I am probably worrying about nothing although I will mention the noise when the car goes in for next service.
  9. The engine on my Mk2 RX300 (29k miles) has a pronounced tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a valve tappet or fuel injector and seems to come from the left side of the engine near the aux drive belt. Once warmed up it is no longer audible from within the car but a sort of valve noise can be heared under the bonnet on the left side. Has anyone else heared this or had any experience of a similar problem. The car is covered by the Lexus approved car warranty.
  10. Sorry forgot that bit. There is no fuse fitted in mine either.
  11. I have recently had a detachable towbar and twin electrics fitted to my Mk 2 RX, it was fitted by Lexus Hedge End and is a Lexus branded unit but manufactured by Westfalia. Initially I too was concerned that no indicator tell-tale was evident. I questioned the dealer on this and was simply told that such a device was no longer a legal requirement. This of course is rubbish and a letter to the Caravan Club confirmed it. The club advised that I remove an indicator bulb from the caravan whist hitched up to check the effect. This proved that a tell-tale device is fitted as there was an increased flashing rate of the car's indicators, similar to a bulb failure when solo. A quick search of Westfalia's website showed that their electrics kits are fitted with a device called Westfalia-Tronic which is designed to show a malfunction in the caravan's signal system in exactly this way. As a matter of interest, Lexus Croydon where I bought the car quoted around £1200.00 for the towbar and electrics. Lexus Hedge End did it for £680 which inluded collection and delivery of the car. Bargain!
  12. I have had two trips out with the van on the hook, longest was round trip of 100 miles. Mpg was around 17 -18 which is about what I got with my petrol CR-V but the RX took my Bailey Senator Vermont in it's stride whereas the Honda had to be pushed quite hard. I have a 200 mile round trip coming up at Easter so will try to get some good towing mpg figures.
  13. Thanks for your replies. I have to visit Lexus Hedge End tomorrow and will ask for their input. This weekend will be our first trip out with the van on the hook.
  14. I have just taken delivery of a 2003 Mk 11 RX300 SE Nav from Lexus Croydon and will be getting a towbar fitted at Lexus Hedge End (Southampton) next week. Normally it is recommended that rear tyre pressures are increased when towing caravans and the like, but I can find no such recommendation in the car's handbook. Does anyone have any experiences as to whether or not tyre pressures should be increased. I had a good experience dealing with Croydon, It was a bit sad to see my trusty Honda CR-V go but the RX is in another class so I am well pleased so far.
  15. Hi A very timely post. I too am about to take delivery of my very first Lexus, a 2003 RX300 SE which I too will be collecting from Lexus Croydon later on this month. Looking forward to some interesting replies from some of the old hands out there.
