  1. Hi Dave, welcome to the LoC :)

My only experience with these brakes was when I fitted them to my PUG 205 Gti and found them to be a great combination. Low dust, good bite from the off (except in extremely cold conditions when they needed to warm up a bit) and excellent pedal feel.

However I am not sure that they would be suitable on such a heavy car as the RX. I find the standard brakes to be more than adequate for the job and would fit them each time. If you do want to go down the EBC route, then I would suggest you look at something more meaty than the GreenStuff - IIRC their YellowStuff pads are specifically formulated for SUVs? I think the GreenStuff would lack bite and pedal feel on such a heavy car.

On a car, yes; on an SUV, probably not!

  2. BMWs can suffer from this sort of issue...like the E46. Some times it can be down to a corroded earth point in the boot and giving it a good clean will rectify the problem. Otherwise, a physical break in the aerial imbeded in the rear windscreen = replacement.

I would be inclined to check the terminals and points before resigning yourself to the replacement option. In any event, I'm sure if you pressed Lexus CS for contribution, they would do so? Expect cost to replace to be circa £500 (BMW prices).

  3. The car involved in that tragedy is a Lexus ES based on the Camry.

Although no doubt shared components across the board (Toyota/Lexus) the ES is very closely related to a Camry - and since we don't get them here, might be let off. More worryingly though, the RX shares far too much of its running gear etc.with the Camry...so one should be wary?

Not sure, in any event, we must not speculate until we know the full facts...

  4. Not sure the RX engine is tuned to run 'better' on the Super. I did some anecdotal testing on my RX and found little difference in anything other than engine note. By comparison our Aygo returns better MPG and increased efficiency on Super. But I can't bring myself to feed it that stuff regularly ;)

I would have thought the V6 3L would be better suited to Super than the 3CYL 1L engine of the Aygo.

  5. I believe these, like those for the facelift RX, are Lexus only part.

On the 60K mile service ours had seized and had to be replaced, IIRC similar cost each + labour + VAT. Silly money if you ask me, however, ours had the Lexus extended Warranty so that covered the cost :)

These cables appear to need replacing around the 5YR 60K mile interval...

  6. Please DO spend the extra £5K and buy the Premium. In 4 years time when I am looking to buy a 450h - I will want maximum bang for my money. If it wasn't for people like the OP buying these things new - how would dedicated second hand car buyers like myself be able to get behind the wheel of such a car a few years down the line? I would also very much appreciate you ticking any other options on the list too ;)

  7. Mine cost £155 for 10k, £258 for 20k inc. Brake fluids

So do the sums - why give them your cash for 3 years if there is no clear benefit?

I think you are right, you have to do the maths for each individual circumstance.

The benefit of a Service Pack is that the cost is not only fixed for the term, but means you are free to go to any Lexus Dealership for service. How many times do you get threads on this forum querying if a service price is reasonable? I personally don't have the time to spend hours calling various dealerships for service prices.

I think the individual has to do the math, work out which combination works best, and go for it. Service costs are basically labour charges...and labour rates can only go up, up and up...

  8. I don't think there have been major isntances of Battery pack failures. But by all accounts they do loose an ability hold charge as life goes on - as with any rechargeable Battery system.

I really dont see the point of the batteries when you cosndier that the car can only really run on true Battery power alone for no more than 3 - 6 MINs at most...seems to be an awful comrpomise in lugging these heavy battieres around when they only deliver a few minutes worth of efficiency.

    But then I'm not a 400h fan ... much prefer the 350 ;)

  9. Personally I think it is brave of you buying a car like that :)

To protect yourself, an excellent Warranty will be essential - is this RX via a Lexus Main Dealer?

If it is not a Lexus AUC then I would question the value of the warranty you are being offered - as (in my experience) most (if not all) Third Party Warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. The Lexus product on the other hand is rock solid.

Plenty of RX400h's about - are you sure you really need to buy one that has done such high mileage?
