  1. I guess it is time to give it a decent change. But knowing my luck if I remove the belly pan cover, I will either lose the bolts or strip some threads. Is it possible to get to the filter and drain plug from below without removing the whole cover. Where abouts underneath are the filter and drain plug? All the tutorials show the cover removed so it makes things a little trickier to see where things are with the cover on.
  2. LPG is pretty popular in Turkey, makes it affordable for guys who work for a couple of quid a day to be able to run cars when they need them. Most of major town and highway filling stations should have it. I think it is Otogas or Otogaz over there. Was this Warrington, Cheshire? Quite fancy the idea of that. Does it start on gas or on petrol. I know some of the multipoint systems can start without using the petro system, but just wondered how the single point/gas ring type systems coped. A decent multipoint system could potentially make more power if the engine ecu is controlling ignition and the higher octane is taken into account.
  3. Definatly don't see anything like that plate with the two wing nuts, and I keep seeing posts about pre-93 cars not having filters. Was that just the US/Europe spec cars. Did the JDM models have filters from the start. I'll have another look tomorrow when I get home from work, now I have a better idea of what I'm looking at.
  4. Hi Ian, as yours a 91, how do you get to the filter? I pulled the very bottom panel on the passenger side down. Couldn't see any plastic butterfly/wingnuts. There is a small square white capsule with one bolt at the bottom. Looks like a cd case size but about twice as thick. Is that the one I need to remove? Would love to get a bit of circulation going but don't want to break anything.
  5. I thought the UCF11 was the MK1? Cool, I'll have a look this weekend then. I don't want to blast it full of the Halfords recharge kit incase there is any R12 and mineral oil in the system still. And it looks like there are two low pressure points to the side of the transmission dipstick. I know it has it's a seperate fill the the rear aircon system.
  6. OK, I have a 91 celsior. While I know the AC needs regassing, it does appear to dry the front screen on the screen demist setting. But on the non AC setting, low appears to do nothing, medium to output little air and whistles a little, and high ups the fan speed and noise, but does very little to improve the blower output. I know later models have a filter under the glove box, but there doesn't appear to be the flap/hatch in the box to access one. Do the early models have a filter that can obstruct airflow to the blowers, even in UK's tepid weather, the well sealed nature of the LS/Celsior means things get warm and sticky quickly. Job two, get the aircon inspected, pressure tested and and see if an R49, RS24, Or R314a can be used as a drop in substitute locally, rather than go for the full R134a conversion, but I'll get that done over the winter when they want the work and don't think they can sweat tax you in the summer.
  7. OK, I have a Celsior of indeterminate exact age. It is registered on a J plate which would suggest 1991/1992 But it was sold as a 93/94 and has the automatic headlight setting. It does not have a telescopic radio antenna. I know there is a "pros/cons" arguement about topping off the aircon. I know that many say don't do it, and other have successfully done it. I'll take my chance and if it breaks I won't cry too much. I'm a grown and take my lumps. I have some Isceon R49 left over from when I topped up my old GT4. this Celsior appears to have R12 in the system as it has the larger schrader valves. But I'm not sure which is the low pressure port. I have a red high pressure port near the radiator and what appears to be another high pressure port up near the engine and trans dipsticks. Then behind the air suspension controller on the LHS just infront of the bulk head there appear to be two low pressure fill ports one behind the other. One has a two wire switch. the other doesn't. Is it the one with the wires that is the pressure switch?
  8. Do the UK LS models having folding mirrors like the Celsiors do? I know from previous experience, folding power mirrors on import models would quite often be ordinary power mirrors on UK/US models.
  9. The passenger side (LHS) door mirror on my 91/92 Celsior has been broken at some time. The main mirror section has been held onto the base with a cable tie that actually is rather innocuous. That of course means that it doesn't fold when the mirror switch is pressed. I would love to get hold of a replacement in preferably the right colour, but any colour would do. What sort of price do door mirrors fetch?
  10. Oh and thanks for the tip on Charlesworth's. Will give them a call. I imagine the LS400 is quite a bit dearer labour wise than the prices I've seen quoted by people who have had 6 cylinder belts changed by them.
  11. Ah OK. I guess it must be permanently engaged then, because apart from the "jolt" when you shift from D to R and back, there is nothing to stop me shifting. I do use the brake when putting into gear just to avoid the clunk when disengaging the parking brake though. It is just that the car came with a paper manual for a later LS400, and there is no mention of it in there at all that I could see.
  12. Just bought a 90/91 Celsior (at least on a J plate). It did have airshocks but someone replaced them in the past for coils. I have the usual sports mode, height, and TEMS switches, but infront is a small red button with japanese writing that looks like it belongs there. With all new toys, of course you randomly push non familiar buttons to see what they do, and this one fell through before anything activated. This car is a bit odd though, too old for SVA (I guess), so the fuel filler isn't reduced, the speedo isn't converted and it doesn't have the usual bolt on rear fog light, but the radio is a Lexus premium pioneer, with full uk frequency range. There is new telescopic antenna but radio reception seems ok in most places on FM, and the CD changer works good. I was told that it used to be an ex embassy car which was given to explain the total lack of history and the UK radio, but mainly japanese instruments. So the leather is a bit worn, and ripped in one place, and the air shocks are now coils, and the aircon display is barely visible(is that a backlight bulb thing, the number are still visible?), but I love it, and everyone loves the massage rear seats and the leg room, and the rear seat audio controls, especially the built in walkman. It has done 177k kilometers, so without history I guess I should spring for at least a belt as everything else is so quiet. Does anyone know of a good indy specialist in the northwest (manchester/liverpool) of england and what will a belt change spring me? Car was cheap, so as long as that is all I pay out for apart from OPEC quantities of petrol, I will keep it a while. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
