  3. it copes with anything (except frying oil!) but tests that i've done over 1,000 miles show a better ride, smoother acceleration, and slightly more 'perky' if you use super unleaded. it's dearer, but then so's running a lexus, so just live with it!!

Hi. your so right. my 96 LS400 runs so much better on Super Unleaded!

  4. A/C hasn't been very good at keeping car cold recently, and it almost sounds like there is something stuck in the ventilation system from the sound of the air coming through the vents.

Car went into service yesterday, thought it would need regassing.

However, pollen filter was clogged up. Now that's changed, AC is ice cold and air is blowing normally.

Just thought I would share in case anyone has a similar issue.

I had same thing, on Ls400 I just bought.thought aircon was not working but filter was changed & now im freezzzzzzzzing!

  5. DJ don, Apologies. When reading the posts, I got confused between yourself and the topic starter (mdowning 1998 MarkIV). Reading through again. i'm pretty certain you have the right parts. Once again, sorry for giving you a bit of a shock. Graham.

Hi again. yes you did have me worried for a while.lol I think I have got the right ones I Looked at a couple of ls 400s over the weekend all facelift models as I wanna update. The struts were gone on all of them. Im looking forward to my new struts but with the post strike *** knows when I'll receive them. Have a good day!

Hii I read that post, Amazing! There is no way I could attempt that due to my disability. Would you be interested in fixing the problem for me? I'll Pay you of course! (a bit more than the 24p. lol)

  7. hello all can anyone be kind enough to give me some info on how to sort out the backlight on my radio its murder at night i cant see the display or any of the damned buttons , is it a diy job or a little more involved any info would be really helpfull thanks .

    rick.

Hi rick,,,Ive got the very same problem!, hopefully someone will have a solution !

    cheers

Hi, Yes I have the same problem also. its awkward at night, but apart from that it spoils the look of the dash, it is just the backlight on the radio affected but I dont think it is a slmple job like replacing a bulb!.I shall be watching this post carefully in the hope that a "Bright Spark" will know the answer. Kind Regards

  8. Hi DJdon, I hope i'm not the bearer of bad news but are you sure that the struts you have ordered are for a 1998 Mark 1V. Please check this link as 1998 saw a design change in the USA version and have noticed that 1997 struts will not fit Lexus Generations.

Hi Graham. Nothing I can do now as I have them on the way. I hope there right. mine is a 1996P I did state that when ordering. I have my fingers crossed. There was several types to choose from. I think I got it right, I'll let you know when they arrive! Thanks Again

  9. Hi all

Have just bought a 2001 LS430 in Canterbury Blue (very dark) with 57000 miles, full Lexus history, has the premium package. Has four new tyres, new discs and pads at the front, new rear pads and just had the full Lexus 60000 miles service with brake fluid and coolent etc.

Beautifull condition, small scuff to front bumper corner but the rest of the car especially the interior is as new. (just got £200 quote to respray front bumper)

Negotiated the price down from £13995 to £12000 cash and think I got a resonable deal.

Always had S class Merc's before and got sick of paying out money all the time because the buttons stopped working....

Anyway you lot have been keeping this car very quiet from the rest of us.... its just superb, better than an S class and I'm not just saying that because I've bought one. It really is, the ride is smoother and quieter, the performance is about the same as my old S500 but it is crisper and more willing, the engine note is georgous, the steering is nicer, the handling about the same, good for such a big car, the refinement and "woftability" is far better..... and the final BIG plus point.... every single button works, it just does what it says on the tin. It is very comfortable and has just about as much room as my old LWB Merc, I'm 6'5" and my daughter who is 6'1" can sit behind me with room to spare.

The aircon seats are superb, the twin lumbars brilliant and they are the most comfortable seat I have sat in.

The navigation system is excellent for a built in system... better than Merc by a long way

The bit I like best though is the swivelling center vents.... it just looks soooooo cooooool

Anyway enough waffling on here... I'm off to drive it somewhere....

    Pete

    Sure looks a lovely car.

  11. Probably the cheapest option is on ebay.com even taking into account the shipping they still work out better than uk prices.

    http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?f...&category0=

Be aware you may have to pay duty on them! ( 17.5%)

BTW it may be worth trying to re prime the old ones by lifting the bonnet up and down a few times.

Hi, I have been looking in breakers for these struts for months with no luck. Lexus want £85 plus VAT Each. That's £199.75 for the Pair! I have just found a pair Thanks to your eBay link & ordered them a few moments ago. I cant believe the price of $46.85 The pair, including Shipping & insurance. I think that's about £25. That's Great. Thank you very much for great advice.

I just need a front side light assembly now due to a stone chip if you know anywhere.Again Lexus want nearly £100 with the vat!

    Thank Again Kind Regards. djdon

  12. posted the other day about the leaking steering rack, found a rack but the guy at the shop "who said on sat that the 91 ls400 rack was the same as the celsior"wasnt in today and his dad says they are differant ,I was under the impression that apart from a few cosmetic changes(electrical and suspension, mines got air)the mechanicals were the same, can anyone advise please,it seems i'm going to have to remove the rack and send it away to be reconditioned, but im now wondering what other differances are there, what about wishbone's and ball joints, disk's etc, this is rapidly becoming a very comfortable quiet headache. Yours, confused .com Ian.

Hi Ian, I nearly bought a Celsior yesterday. Such a lovely really beautiful Car,The only thing wrong with it was that being an import it is mega expense when they go wrong. This is the problem with all personal imports not just Lexus. Some people say they are the same, but I think so.You will find many parts on Lexus slightly differant from Celesior. I wish you luck with yours Regards Don

  13. I had a similar problem on mine when I fitted an aux in kit. Turned out to be a problem with the wiring to the stereo rather than the stereo itself.

My post about it was here. Not sure how much help it will be to you though but probably worth a look.

Hi Moffet. Many Thanks, I looked at your problem, Hope you have it sorted by now! Yes its a similar problem to mine except that I have not tried toi add anything I have not touched it at all.I think it has just stopped lighting up on its own. The rest of the dash lights are fine,It is only the Radio that is out.I woukl be willing to pay someone to fix it for me if you know of anyone. It would be so nice to get it all working lovely. I checked the fuse under the bonnet marked "RADIO" but that was ok. Is there any other fuse box I should be checking? Thanks Again

  14. Ok that saves money try this link for more details

    Cheers,

    Steve

Hi Steve. You seem to know a bit about dash lights, I wonder if my similar problem has a quick fix! My dash is perfect except for the radio that wont light up! Radio works great, all the display is ok, it just wont light up which not only spoils the lovely Dash it is impossible to see the track, volume buttons etc. Please tell me you know how to fix it! Is there a bulb behind there or fibre optic?

It is 1997P LS400. I just bought it on fleebay,120000 Miles. I know nothing about it but it seems a lovely car. Would be fantastic to get all those buttons around the radio lit up. I'm unable to spend fortunes on it but would a few quid is ok. Apart from that I would not have a clue how to take it out anyway. but I bet its not t difficult. Have a Great Day. Djdon

  15. Did they help ?

Keep me posted cos I don't want to send people their way

if they cant help your problem.

Hi Again, They must be very busy as i could not get through on phone, but they answered my email but want me to take it out & send it to them for a quote. I feel it would be very expensive. I was hoping it was a seperate fuse, or a code. or maybe a simple bulb behind the set somewhere. Its a shame as it not only spoils the lit up dash display of a night but its also hard to see the buttons to change track etc. The radio & all the display data works fine, it is just the backlight not lit. Yes I know its such a silly minor fault but it would have been nice to fix it. The system Sounds great I dont think I have ever heard such a great sound from a standard car stereo. Or a super duper one put in come to that. The stereo seperation on my old Beatles CDs is just fantastic. I have only just bought the car this week, When i pumped up the volume to Max it felt like someone kicking the back of my seat.So powerfull. No distortion, just great! That place is well worth knowing & I have registard with them. I will let you know the result of avy work i have done there in the futcher They are not to far from me. Thanks again
