I currently own a Toyota Yaris Cross after 25+ years with the VX/Audi brand.  The Cross is a fantastic car apart from - the drivers seat.  There is a distinct lack of lateral support on the left side cushion of the seat due to the width only being 5 inches, whilst the right cushion measures 6 inches.  This is causing me to lean to the left when I make a left hand turn.  Currently looking for some sort of aftermarket backrest to try and solve the problem but I may look at the Lexus LBX in 6 months time.  I know there are some similarities between the Cross and the LBX  and it would be helpful if anyone could  give some feedback on the Lexus seats and if the drivers seat in particular has the odd dimensions of the Cross.

Very strange that this has not be recognised.

I’m not at all surprised dealers are being asked to help finding older Ls’s’

your previous owner had a brilliant time driving all those amazing miles I’m sure. Very little maintenance needed beyond normal servicing and preventative maintenance and wow, wot value for money over his lifetime with your car …… now …… you’re going to get another lifetime from her too

Those handbrake pads/ shoes stuff …… it’s probably the first time they’ve been changed too

    I know mine haven’t been on 250k miles !

We’re very fortunate and some might say wise to be having the Ls for our main cars …… to drive in utmost comfort and reliability with immense power and acceleration at our whim ……

In my 26 years driving an Ls400 ……. wow is it that long …… and I know they’ve taken me personally at least 250,000 incredible miles across the UK and much of Europe on holidays

I KNOW I wouldn’t hesitate jumping in either of mine right now …… just checking the levels and tyre pressures …… to do a simple, almost any terrain,  5,000 mile holiday wherever

The older Ls is really that great a car ……

on E5 tho’ of course 😂

    Malc

Fully agree with everything Malc says above. I had my parking brake done a year or so ago - yes expensive - but in 9 years, that is the only "repair" I have had to contend with.

  3. The hybrid system and CVT gearbox lends itself to driving economically. After running the car for a few months this will come naturall. Driving a hybrid to get the "best" out of it does take practice.

People who moan about the CVT gearbox and fuel consumption, tend to be heavy footed with the accelerator. The RX hybrids can shift if you need them to but as Phil (Mudguts) says, those opportunites are becoming less for the factors he states.

  4. Speaking to someone who has just purchased a Lexus ES 300h. He has had three previous Jaguar cars. He said that the Lexus build quality is far better than all his previous Jags. His last Jag - a 2.0 diesel (Ithink?) had to have the DPF replaced at a cost of £3000! He loves the CVT box and seamless changes from electric to ICE.

Unfortunately the GEN-1 NX does not have that feature.
However, I got round it in a very simple fashion.
I took under my employ a small Victorian urchin. I send him out barefoot in the snow to warm the car for me. Once the car is toasty warm he gives me a cheery (or is it tearful) cry of "it's all ready for ya Guv'nor". I feed him sparingly as to minimise running costs. The added value is he doubles up as a damn fine chimney sweep, and fetches me a fresh loaf of Hovis bread from the bakery each morning across the cobbled streets of my northern town on his trusty, rusty bicycle.

Can you buy one at Aldi?

    Hi everyone

We went to look at the car which was an overall disappointing experience.  The car was dirty scuffed and not in great nick.  Ok these things can be fixed with a bit of polish however the salesman seemed to have zero interest in selling me the car.  The whole thing was very strange.  So walked away.  Still not written off Lexus however overall not a great advert for the brand.

I would say not a good advert for the dealership!

Something to consider is the original rwetail price of the car you are looking at. If it is over £40,000 new, then it will be in the luxury car tax band for 6(?) years.

    Hi Tom

I had a Ford Thames 15cwt van as my first vehicle in 1969.  Registration NME208.  Nicknamed Brian after the snail in the Magic Roundabout.  Wonderful memories.  Taught me an awful lot about driving and maintenance and repairs.  Bought for £60.  Did over 100,000 miles in it including 2 round Europe trips.  Sold it nearly 5 years later without an MOT for £45.  Happy days!!!

When I were a lad............ our family drove to Yugoslavia and back in a Ford Thames 15cwt ex-Rediffusion van with bus seats in the back and a home made roofrack!

    Happy Days Indeed!

The School Run is killing my average so I've stopped worrying about it. If I think about it too much I may wish I was back in the land of the wage-slaves instead of enjoying a non-stop life of excitement as a retiree!

A short school run is a real killer to mpg in my experience.

    Yes indeed! I’m around 12.6 km/L, so 28 mpg on my NX 300h 2018.

    What's your average ?

I am getting 27 mpg - it is winter and I am doing very short journeys. So I would not worry too much. Take it on a long run and see what you get. Last summer I averaged 45 mpg on holiday with a roof box.

That pretty much sums it up correctly. My 12 yr old car ( rusty underneath - bad in some places not too bad in others ) does not go out in the rain and NEVER if there is any salt around. So I am eliminating one issue and hopefully the rusting process will be slowed down for a few more years of enjoyment.🙂

I never take my LS400 out if it is raining or the roads are wet, if at all possible.

Does it do any good? Let you know when it is MOT'd tomorrow!

Don't bother giving it a thought. It sorts itself out. Mine is rarely 'fully charged', only after a long mountain descent. The system doesn't allow it get too low either, just diverts power generated by the engine to charge the battery if needed.

One of those rare things that just 'works'.

    Enjoy your purchase!

    Spot on Tony!
