  1. Update!

Ordered the correct part (an ebayer breaking down a CHR by the looks of it).

Once again took the front bumper off. Fittest the new sensor, and I get all altogether new error. "Malfunction on parking sensor system, contact dealer".

I guessed that perhaps it's not as plug and play as a part as I thought and I was right. I couldn't clear the error or calibrate it as I don't have tech-stream (think I might invest in a hooky copy of the software for the future though).

So back to lexus so they can plug it in and press a couple of buttons and magic, works a treat!

  2. Ok. Things we've learnt today:

    1) the bumper includes the sonar unit - meaning 3 points of electrical systems need unplugging

    2) if you want to completely remove the bumper expect to get wet (windscreen washer connection - don't know why that hadn't occurred to me.

    3) the mounting points on the center sensors are easy to remove (luckily it was one of these that were faulty. - ones on the outside I couldn't fathom how to remove so I could at least clean them up

    4) even if you buy a part off eBay - triple check it's the right part before you waste a couple of hours of a Saturday 😞 - needless to say it didn't work so I've sent a strongly worded message to the eBay seller

    5) be careful with underside clips on the corner points - they come off very easily

  3. So this one just by the licence plate. The bumper section comes off to the left. I'm hoping that I can reach it without having to take the sonar cluster out (definitely inviting problems with calibration I'd have thought if I do that)

    Anyone tried it?

  4. Ok, so warranty out so on my back I go...!

At least lexus could fault which one it was (and kindly gave me the part number if my AliExpress jobby falls apart). My OBD can only go into 3 modules whereas techsmart can diagnose everything on board.

Trouble is they're saying it's the middle right sensor and I've no idea how to get to it yet. Should be fun finding out! More fun than giving them £300 for an hour's work though

I can use carplay but I only have a small data plan (5GB) and am worried about burning through it too quickly, I rely on satnav for work and use it daily, so was hoping to utilise the inbuilt sat nav

You can set Google maps or apple maps to download a set map while your at home on WiFi, then when out and about it won't use any data. Not ideal but get you the functionality your after?

  6. I've gone is200 to is250 to is300h and now es200h.

I've found it to be the smoothest of them all. Depends what you want, a sporty spirited feel or elegantly transporting you with little stress?

Had similar experience but just sprayed WD40 on the sensors as this Refracts moisture and not had any more problems ( Touch Wood ) Hope that helps.. Worth a try !!!

Tried silicon spray but no joy 😞

I could see with the naked eye that one of the sensors' plastic ring around it (believe this is the fascia of the rubbed seal) had slightly been nicked a little, so it could be that. But strangely if I leave the car in the garage for 2+ days - when I come to start her up...all works fine

    .....for 5 mins max!

I'm expecting Lexus to wriggle out of the warranty so at least I've got the Camry sensors to fall back on. I believe it would be c£200 fitted when I discussed it with the parts department (before I realised I'm in warranty). I suppose it's worth it to not have to spend half an hour on my back to get the bumper off, but we'll see.

If anyone ever wants to try and DIY, let me know and I'll send a few photies of how-to. - there's a couple of blind bolts at the back of the wheel arch that are an absolute PITA. Also one of the wiring connectors needs herculean strength to prize it from it's housing.

  8. My turn now 😞

Bought two sensors from China (didn't bother doing a part check....whoops. Stripped the bumper down before I realised it was the wrong part 😶

Round two... Found the right part (c£150 from Lexus) so thought, sod that for a game of bananas, I'll find it elsewhere. Found the part from China (same exact part as is on a Camry so could've probably gone OEM from Toyota) for c£30 for two.

....Then I realised I'm actually in warranty - booked in at Lexus on Friday

    Wish me luck !

What year and grade ES do you have? Only vehicles with the 12.3” display have a DVD player.

That's probably it then - it's the pre facelift (69 plate). Weird because even my 07 IS250 had a dvd player back in the day!

Make sure that the parking brake is on perhaps? My IS's wouldn't do anything with DVDs or image files unless it was engaged. I haven't tried a DVD in Betsy yet.

Cheers Mincey - yeah definitely parked - and 99% sure the parking brake is on (does it by default right?)

Just wondered if anyone has actually successfully tried it and it definitely works?

  11. Happened on the way back during the pretty heavy slush that was going on up the M40

I stopped to get fuel (this time the pre-crash detection was off as well!), looked at the badge where the sensors are and there was a perfect disc of ice (as well as the entire grill and number plate!)

Headlights were caked in ice/slush as well so gave it a going over before getting my wallet emptied by motorway services petrol and all was working once again.

I should have taken a picture of the perfect disc of ice over the badge as it was rather amusing - made me wonder what happens to ES owners in countries with permanent weather like yesterday

Not having an ES I can't help you with questions 1 and 2 but with regards to question 3 - there is an option within the Android Auto settings on your phone (usually listed under your phone's general settings) to control whether AA starts automatically when it connects to the car. The setting to look for is "Start Android Auto automatically". Might be worth taking a look at the selected option under there and change it if necessary.

Yeah it's definitely on in the lexus infotainment and fairly sure it's on in the android side just wondered if anyone else had the issue ?

  13. Still not seen any ESs on the road...

And I do around 400 miles a week down to Berkshire and back.

Here goes some Q's that I've not as yet found an answer to in the manual.

    1) can the radar cruise control distance be set to minimum by default? It's a marginal annoyance to have to set this every time I turn on CC

    2) Auto-wipers? I could have sworn they worked at some point on a journey (definitely didn't work on my loaner) but could be Mandela effect

    3) android auto - auto start-up. Seems a bit hit and miss. If I've been using android auto recently and then get back in car it will automatically start-up, but sometimes I have to click the android auto button on the infotainment (despite the music from AA coming through)

All first world problems for sure but thought I'd ask!

  14. One thing I have noticed is about the LOC...it's rather quiet here these days. It was quite the hive of activity on the IS200 and 250 forums. Slightly quieter on the 300h but very very quiet here on ES.

If the amount of ES's I see on the road are an indication (not one have I seen) then I suppose that answers my question

Car play is enabled, also the option  is on to enable when locked.

I have switched off time restrictions option on the iPhone.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled and the phone is connected via Bluetooth to tue Lexus infotainment.

    Any other ideas ?

All of those were just a bit of googling so nothing concrete I'm afraid.

If it were me I'd test it on an android and another Iphone (that isn't one you've already tested). If none of those work then it's a lexus issue. If any of those do work then I'd "take off and nuke the site from orbit" - full reset if your phone.

  16. Have you got a spare android phone knocking around to see if it'll spark android auto into life?

Also not to ask a stupid question, but you are plugging it into the front USB right?

I've never used apple so can't help you with that side, but there's undoubtedly a setting in car play to reset all connections, is there something like that?
