  1. Hi there,

Have just experienced the same scenario, Rear End driver side stuck way up high and was feeling every single bump: Car ( RX300 SEL ) on 04 plate ) was due service/mot so asked Lexus ( Edinburgh ) to investigate while work being done: They called back to say car required a new compressor at a price of £1300 !!!!! -- car is just out ( 2 weeks ) of 5yr warranty but has only done 32k miles, but after a talk to service advisor, Lexus agreed to a 50% contribution to compressor cost: The new unit was fitted along with new wiring loom but the car was still sitting way up at the back and they now said that the rear Sensor ( £350 ) also needed to be replaced ? As you can imagine, I was feeling quite gutted at this point: However, Lexus came up trumps and offered to fit new Sensor at no cost, so overall have got to say that Lexus were very fair with me.

Please note that while the Sensors are covered by he 5yr warranty -- the compressor is not: Hope this info is of help to others.

Maybe i am being cynical but did they actualy show you the pump was faulty as if what you say is correct after replacing what they say was the faulty part the fault still existed, not suprised they replaced the sensor FOC :whistling:

  2. The problem is the connector to the air suspension pump and it breaks, there is a tech bulletin for this, i was told that they can investigate but if the connector breaks then it is a pump replacement.

When this happened to me i took out an extended warranty at £800 and got them to replace under warranty hence saving me £500 and giving me 12 months additional warranty. :winky:

  3. Well hello again.

I'm sure you were as bored at reading my painful process, as i was phoning Lexus Lincoln over 50 times.

Currently i'm still waiting for my service book. I was promised it was JUST done(a year ago) by Coventry Lexus. Phoned Coventry.......never heard of it! Bumped into Area manager at Teeside who was to say the least not impressed. Lincol had authorised an oil change as it hadn't been serviced for a year! Thats funny i said, i thought you did a pre-delivery inspection to make sure all that was complete(flat battery)...uuummmm

Anyway i now have a car without any service history, and an alarm that keeps going off in the midle of the night thus waking all my neighbours(who leant me their cars when mine was off the road).

Yesterday i had the windscreen replaced by Autoglass. As soon as the mechanic opened up the bonnet he exclaimed that things just didn't look right to him. 10 seconds later and a bit of digging he found at least 2 bits of trim and rubber that had evidence of the engine area and wings having been resprayed!!!!

In short what the f*ck am i to do now. I've had it with phoning people to get the things i was promised in the first place, and together with the service book, alarm and now the respraying saga i'm at wits end.

Reject the car and get trading standards involved would be my approach.

  4. If it's got a big square screen in the middle of the dash then it has sat-nav. It might have crashed however if its not operating (happened in my Camry, take the fuse out in the engine bay and it'll reset) or you might not have the disc installed.

    Cheers James,

it has the screen so I'll have a peek at the fuse box. How and where could I get a disc from if needed, any ideas?

And thanks for the instant response by the way.

If you need a disc i may be able to help i have latest genuine disc spare but will need to know what disc should be installed in your motor.

  5. I have now had the strangest thing happen on 2 occasions over the last 12 months, i have gone to my car and used the key to open the doors in the normal way on inserting the key into the barrel and trying to turn nothing happens, it is as if the key is not the right key for the lock, get out lock the doors with it open the tailgate all fine and switched the intruder system of all fine, put the key in the barrel absolutely zilchagain will not physically turn in the ignition barrel, after leaving it in for 10 - 15 seconds whilst scratching my head or getting ready to call RAC take it out and try again bingo turns as normal and everything is fine, any body any ideas as to what may be happening.

My thought is that one of the buttons may be getting pressed in my pocket and when inserted into the barrel not enough power to transmit the code into the immobiliser after a few seconds in the barrel it may have pulled enough power from the car (presumming it works like other systems) to send.

    Help

  6. My dash tended to rattle when warming up from cold. Cured it by inserting a couple of strips of foam rubber between the front of the dash and the front screen.

The foam rubber is black and carefully tucked into position, it is hardly noticable.

That sounds about right, i have noticed that when cold it is worse, how did you get the strips into position?

    Thanks

  7. I am sure this has been covered before so apologies but i could not find any links.

Have had an intermmitent rattle from my dash for about 12 months, now starting to be constant, seems to be coming from the front area in front of the dash speaker, put your hand on it and it stops even very lite pressure, has anybody else experienced similar and more importantly does anybody have any suggestions to cure, it is really starting to bug me now :tsktsk:

    Thanks

  8. Probably way too late for you but I had to change all 4 after about 26,000 miles (2 worn, 1 damaged sidewall and prefer to buy pairs) (Kwikfit are keeping the other for me, as a potential replacement in the future).

After a bit of research, (Tanvic/ATS/Walkers/Thorntons/Kwikfit) I chose a set of Continentals. Cost me over £500!

Only problem was that the tracking was way out and took three adjustments to get right, but this may have been caused by the impact which damaged the sidewall of the originals.

Thus far, the Continentals have performed faultlessly, although I do have a slight sense that the steering is marginally heavier.

26,000!!!! I will be more than happy with that and it is far more than i have ever had from Dunlop or Bridgestones, you should also be aware that as these ar all weather tyres therefore the rubber compound is slightly softer than standard tyres hence their better performance at lower tempretures / snow / ice.

  9. I think this might turn into a very informative thread as I don't think UK buyers consider the fuller options (and impacts) of cars they are buying - we get blinkered into looking at MPG only. I'm not a fan of the RX Hybrid (I really REALLY wanted to like that vehicle) but I remain unconvinced and didn't really think about the EMF issue at all.

I think the original poster of this thread (who wants a cast iron guarantee) will find that there can be no guarantees offered because I don't think these things are properly understood and tested. Its like global warming. For every one scientist that says there IS G/W you can find another who says there isn't (if you see what I mean). EMF and the like are phenomenons of the 21st C in which we live - surrounded by electronics and gadgets and gizmos all of which exude EMF to some degree. I know some want proof (either way) before they will be convinced, but I prefer to err on the side of caution and protect my family as best as I can. And with the EMF issue - it is of great concern to me and one that would bear hvy on my mind IF I were to consider purchasing a Hybrid.

I think its a very good question to ask, but not one to which you will find an answer (yet).

Thank you all for your posts. Very thoughtful and insightful. The poster above also hits the nail on the head when he talks about UK buyers. I read somewhere that the RX hybrid is the fastest selling lexus in the UK. Yet no-one seems to have asked my question on any of the forums. There's more to this than meets the eye and personally I will err on the side of caution/discretion, and opt for another manufacturer. It's a shame. I really wanted a Lexus, but I would never be able to get into the car without a nagging doubt in the back of my mind, so my feeling is it's best to leave it.

In researching on the web for an alternative large family estate car I also came across the EMF 'scandal' that recently rocked Volvo. So the V70 is out as well.

My options are being rapidly reduced by the minute....

How did you go about selecting your mobile phone, TV and Microwave?

  10. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the Kumhos are naff - far from it I've had these tyres fitted to a variety of cars (Fabia VRs, PUG 205 GTi, Clio II ...) and they have been the Ecsta KU31 range of tyres. They have performed admirably and I have been suitably impressed. But when it comes to tyres for my 330 Sport or the RX I remain to be convinced that these tyres offer the same performance as the equivalent Michelins. I would need to have more convincing that they are as good on these 'extra load' or 'heavy' vehicles.

If you could post back your findings over a period of time, then I'm sure we would all find it of use.

Not sure what extra load or weight has to do with this but for peace of mind this model of tyre as explained by Kumho UK is specifically designed for all weather and SUV / 4 x 4 vehicles and fitted as standard to motors a lot heavier than the RX300, i will of course keep you all informed about performance.

  11. Our car has OE Bridgestone tyres fitted. They seem to do the job quite well and are hard wearing. I however don't like the brand (personal choice). its nothing in particular I guess, I just prefer the Michelins. I'm waiting for mine to scrub out so I can put the Michelins on there. Although while we had a Hybrid on load, it had the Dunlop <something> tyres - they appeared quite grippy (soft) and quieter than the Bridgestones. I think I preferred them. But ultimately, I would buy the Micehlins over any other as (for me) the brand is tried and tested.

I think it is a brave decision going with the Kumhos - are they for European market as much of the stuff about them is for the US market - and tyres that are NOT European type approved are considered illegal in the UK.

Might be worth you posting regularly about the tyres and your experiences mate?

Yes European approved, in fact just found out recently that KIA and Hyundia fit these as standard supply on all UK 4 x 4's, had both Michelin and Dunlop and did not rate either but i will keep you informed on how these perform, however to date very impressed.
