hi thanks for your response, i took the mirror apart and cleaned the gears and lubricated with lots of WD40 just to be sure
-
hi all, i hope you all are doing well
i have an issue with my passenger mirror. it won't tilt up or down. left and right is fine, although a touch slow.
i followed this guide right to the letter, and no joy. what next?
when i try to move the mirror up and down i can hear a "click" but no movement
thanks in advance

hi all
can you recommend a dash cam. i've not ever ventured into this market, so not sure of what is out there and the technology. however, i don't want anything bulky and wires trailing all over the place either!!
thanks

Yes that is fair enough, now I remember you mentioned they were ex-BMW dealer and they are very good, but I think then it is worth mentioning it is "local garage your trust" rather than "halfords", because that implies that Halfords as a brand is trustworthy, which it is not - 9 out of 10 Halfords quality if just horrible and rather than fixing cars they damage them and try then up-sell you for thing you don't need.
Indeed. Worth noting that sometimes advisory for leaking shocks doesn't even mean they are leaking. On my old IS250 which had nearly 200k miles, I once got advisory for "oil misting on the shock" in one MOT. When I started investigating I realised I was working on brakes and used some WD on some stuck bolts, sprayed a little bit on shocks and MOT noted that as advisory.
you make a fair point. the day before MOT, i got all brakes and brake discs changed. for the rear, i remember them spraying WD40 or equivalent to loosen the bolts when working on the rear. is there a way i can check this myself, however, its already on the advisory
-
ok, thanks, i thought so. in my case it was advisory, but i'm going to get them changed
thanks

hi all
My recent MOT threw up an advisory:
"shock absorbers has light misting of oil offside rear"
when sourcing replacement, do i need to change the spring/coil? as one that i've seen just show the strut
is it best to get both rears done, or could you just do one?
many thanks

thanks all. i topped up coolant etc. no leaks from what i can see. will continue to monitor
-
has anyone undertaken this change. is there a walkthrough?

update:
this morning i removed the plastic coolant tank and inspected it. there was no coolant in the tank and there are no signs of damage or wear on it either.
i topped up the tank with coolant and i'll leave it now to see if there are any leaks.
what i wanted to ask you was this. should i be filling coolant via the radiator cap too?
-
thanks mark, i will look i was wondering whether i should change it...i'll inspect it properly tomorrow

hi Sharon, i've noticed that if my fob is near my Iphone, the signal blocks and does not open the car! strange but true, so maybe keep the fob separate from your phone. i sometimes get this. i usually do the following:
get yourself some spare lithium batteries, and try to keep a note of when you last changed them. keep the batteries in the car
if the batteries are fine and you get that message. simply hold the fob to the start button and start the car as normal.

Poundland job for me!! £1 ready mixed. originally bought as emergency as i was due to do a long drive that weekend. worked fine, continued to use!
-
these scanners are easily bought for under a tenner. i've one and used the "torque" app on android
-
thanks Mark and Steve, will do.
i ordered OEM coolant, which should be arriving friday afternoon/evening. i managed to arrange alternative transport for work tomorrow, so car won't be used until i add coolant to it
-
hi colin. when i inspected the coolant cap, it was loose/ajar. could pressure have built up and popped the cap? cap its self is fine, no breaks, its clips back on ok
-
good point. i'll get some distilled water just in case. thanks
would be good to know if others use the "pink" coolant or alternatives
-
no leaks, not that i can see anyway. was looking an hour ago with a LED torch. mind you, if there was does coolant evaporate quickly?
i ordered the lexus/toyota pink coolant. says due to be delivered friday. i'll top it up and then i can check if any leaks. good thing i'm working from home tomorrow! i'll make alternative arrangement on friday
-
thanks for your swift replay Malc. thing is, i will have to drain the distilled water once the coolant arrives. i read that can be tricky
-
hi all,
i just found out my coolant reservoir has no, very little coolant in there. google search advises to use the Toyota pink coolant. is there any alternatives i can use?
i can source the Toyota pink, but it won't arrive until the weekend or later. i need the car for Friday. Halfords came up with a match "suitable" for my car but not sure if its a definite match
any suggestions
thanks

hi all,
i've just looked at this link that steve posted
i have these ramps, but thought i could not use them as the car needed to be level for all the oil to drain. is this correct?
