  1. injector cleaner alone won't keep your egr clear.it will always require manual cleaning,i do mine at 5k intervals.

the aa recommend that a modern diesel be treated to every third tank of diesel be the premium type to avoid coking issues.

as said previously i use millers additive and have covered 85k without breakdown.

  2. i have used millers dps4 until my 5ltr bottle ran out, whilst i waited for another special offer price to come along the months went by along with the miles and then one day my car suffered the same symptoms as yours but intermittently.the mechanic could not find fault at all although he suspected a fuel starvation problem.

anyway,i thought that it maybe that my injectors were clogged so i bought a small bottle of millers and put a double measure through the 1/4 tank of fuel in the car and within 5 miles the problem was gone never to reappear.i believe that the precise nature of the piezo injectors are reliant on regular cleaning through with premium grade diesel or injector cleaners such as millers.

  3. my understanding of the de-coke issue is due to excessive oil bypassing the piston rings and therefore causing high carbon build up in some of the early 220 engines.a thirst for oil is a clue to this problem.

  4. Interesting comparison, how did the two feel in terms of performance?

Also, how many miles does your 220D compared to the 200D? I guess there are many variables that could affect such a test including how well run in the engine is, fuel quality, wear and stuff like EGR Valve deposits.

Regardless, thanks for the information :)

the 200 is more responsive in 1st and 2nd but runs out of puff when the 220 is just getting into the strong power band.the ride in the 200 is more compliant and copes with rough roads better to give a more relaxed and comfortable journey, the trade off is more body roll during cornering.the clutch in the 200 is also lighter than the 220.the loss of the big punch from the turbo is the big down side imo.
  5. today i test drove a is 200d with a view to testing it's economy against that of my is 220d.the conditions were not ideal(very windy)and i feel that both would have attained higher figures under calmer weather.both vehicles were driven by myself under the same driving style.

    extra urban

    200 achieved 42.3 mpg

    220 achieved 41.3 mpg

    motorway testing using cruise control.outward 6 miles,return 6 miles.outward+return divided by 2 =results below.

    70 mph in 5th

    200.......... 55.8

    220.......... 52.4

    75mph in 5th

    200.......... 49.7

    220.......... 46.75

    81mph in 5th

    200..........44.00

    220..........41.75

    90 mph in 6th

    200..........37.05

    220..........36.9

conclusion=200 is about 5% better on consumption on my test.

  6. Hi, new to this forum so please bear with me.

Recently bought a IS 220d on a 56 plate and my MPG is very very low. I'm using it as a taxi in Sheffield which is very full of hills, which I know add to the problem but I have only been getting 23 mpg. I know that isn't right. All advice welcome and needed please. If I got over 30 mpg I would be fine with it but 23 mpg just isn't acceptable.

put some injector cleaner through it,the millers stuff works, let us know how it is after that.
  7. Guys,

Can someone help me (fast) please?

What exactly does the IS220D manual say regarding engine oil? What is recommended for 220D?

I don't have manual to hand and can find a lot of opinions on what to use but I want to follow the manual to the letter of the law.

    Cheers,

    Dabbler

The oil that you need is 5w-30 conforming with,ACEA B1,API CF-4 OR CF(you may also useAPI CE or CD)

The above is wording from the manual,at no point does it mention fully synthetic.

  8. egr valve recycles exhaust gas through to the inlet manifold and then into the engine to be burnt a second time in order to reduce pollution.the petrol engine will i think have a egr valve.egr's are more trouble on the diesels because it is a dirty fuel in comparison to petrol.egr is not a new idea,it has been around for many years.

still got my 220d,five year old next week with 77k covered.
