  1. Just wondered if anyone knows with Denso Iridium plugs what the difference in performance/economy is between the Iridium Power and the Iridium Tough plugs. Obvioulsy cost, but what else. I am not an acceleration monster, more of a 'slow to reach my peak' sort of driver.
  2. That's why I like ugly cars. Cannot see anyone wanting to nick or car jack a bog standard LS. In my younger days I had all sorts of high performance and high spec company cars nicked, in the end I hada Rover 416, a heap of s**t, but no one ever wanted to nick it. So maybe there is a market to ugly-kits to make the crims look elsewhere.
  3. With a 96 LS400 that's just having it's MOT and apart from new tyres should be clear (well I hope so), and having just lost my job, I am not going to give up on the Lexus easily. Reason 1. It's built like a brick outhouse, and for a 12 year old, the only creak is where the leather on the passenger seat rubs. Reason 2. It's a darned nice motor - my missus as Honda Civic 1.8 sport which is 5 years younger, uses almost a much fuel, and though it is great for whizzing around country lanes it's all a bit tiring. Reason 3. The body work on the LS is great, my old Omega (10 years old) had more rust than the Forth Bridge Reason 4. The money saved by buying this beast cheap 6 months ago, more than makes up for (hopefully) no need to spend huge amounts to replace things that fall off, and so price of fuel is still not the big issue. And being N reg not paying thru nose for VED Reason 5. This is great car to drive at 110 or 55, and having just passed the magic half century of living, I find that 55 to 60 on the motorway listening to some Drum and Bass is just as pleasing as listening to Mozart at 110, and I can get 500 miles out of a tank, and get to see more of that stuff near the motorway. I think they call it countryside. So hoping to get another job soon, and just hoping I do not have to take a company car. If I have to take company car next time round, I guess I will have to let my new baby go, but only coz no where to park too many cars where I live. One final thought if so many people are not driving so much, then that leaves more free space to waft about in a bit of luxury without so many traffic jams.
  4. I came across a web site via this LOC web site which pointed to a great site where some guy in the USA (Photographer as I recall), who has got some great info on maintianing a LS400 with some great photos of what to do. I seem to have lost my copy of the link to his web site, so if anyone can help out, then great. Cheers, Pete (ACTUALLY - Just found it www.lexls.com so no need to worry about this post)
  5. Been following some of the threads on spark plugs and just come across these on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-LS400-32V-8-x-...1QQcmdZViewItem Anyone got thoughts on whether they are worth using, or to stick to getting the via the USA dealers mentioned. Aiming to get the LS400 serviced and cambellted soon, so want to make sure I get the best out of the engine especially with the price of petrol meaning I might have to sell the kids into slavery. :winky: Above link does not appear to work from here, so try Searching on LEXUS LS400 32V 8 x BOSCH SUPER 4 SUPER4 SPARK PLUGS The wonders of the Inter-Web
  6. Been reading the various posts on clunking, and now not so sure what is best to start looking at. LS400 (96 N plate), 109K miles. The front offside clunks when over speedbumps (unless very low speed), also getting a similar sound from nearside rear (and possibly nearside front). Sometimes just a minor dip in the road and the right speed (which can be high or low speed) give me a front offside clunk. No juddering when breaking, clunking never happens when turning into drive. My trusted mechanic has had a poke about and says everthing in terms of bearings, suspension looks okay. he said the front link bushes are not as new, but then he said they were fine as it does not judder under any braking conditions. Being my fist Lexus - I am still getting used to the foibles (but sure is a heck of a nicer car then my previous 10 year old Omega). So it sounds to me like it could the brake clunking around, and quite happy for my mechanic to have a look, but wanted to ask what should I exactly be expecting him to look for. Or is there something with the shocks which may be the issue. The car steers true when pointed in any direction, and when you push the car down it seems recover as if the shocks are okay. Any ideas of comments before I start spending money.
  7. I have same problem, but I have found that once the radio is warmed up the problem usually goes away. I am not aware that the flap does need to be down, it is usually that the cassette player does not see enough tension on the take up spool, and so stops as it thinks the tape may jam. Some cassette adaptors are better than others, Belkin are generally a bit iffy, Sony AC-9 is better. The other thing to consider is that Maplins do an adaptor that has a head that can allow you to play tape in either direction, so this might be answer, as I have found that if I put my tape in reverse, the adaptor never gets ejected, but the Sony will not actually pick up the music in reverse, so I may be spending £7 at Maplin sometime soon to see if it is a better fix to my (and your ) dilema.
