  1. Have you tried Goodyear? That maybe a good compramise for what your looking for.

I've never driven an RX on bridgestones, but I thought the potenzas on my uncles IS weren't so bad. I guess on a bigger/heavier vehicle like yours these elements are more exaggerated...

At the minute am using Pirelli Scorpions, much quieter than the Toyos, and are a good tyre for wet roads, took advantage of Kwik-Fit's promotion, they did all four for £530 fitted /balanced and tracked.

They've now done almost 4k in 2 months and treads as good as new. Plus the little yellow scorpion on each tyre looks nice. ;)

Just my opinion tho. Cheers Nev

  2. Hi, i wasnt too sure where to post this but ive just joined Gold, paid online via debit card. The reason i bought gold was to sell my Altezza, how long does this take to activate or however it works as this is urgent

Aye me too, paid £40 for the 2 years membership on Friday, It's now Sunday and still not activated yet. I e-mailed Steve yesterday but have heard nothing back from him yet, is there anybody else can sort this for me? cheers Nev

  3. :whistling: I have being playing in a RX today, I think I have fallen for it,

Tis a lovely car, dark metallic grey, can't remember the the proper name for it, greyish leather interior, 46k on the clock.

not sure wot it is, se or sel. has got sat nav, park assist, 18 inch allies. wot is the sound system like, any good.

Not to bothered about economy, never have been, so up yours Mr Brown, B)

It looks really nice in the sun, yes the sun was out today.

they soppose to be trying to sort a price out for my IS but if I get nowt for it I will keep it.

Very nice to drive it was, made my mind up I want an auto as I drive an auto truck all day so it is making me very lazy..

Any body have any probs with there RX?? B)

Go for it mate, you won't regret it, I didn't. Sounds like you're going for the MK2 SE-L model.

The main thing to look for are corroding alloys, seems its a common fault but not the end of the world, Lexus can usually sort this out depending on the warranty of the car.

Not too bad on the economy, although I did put LPG on mine, making it pretty cheap to run.

Comfy and much fun to drive. Definately a car you'll be wanting to keep for a long time to come. Nev

  4. Why would you want to disable this? It is a safety feature, kids cannot unlock the car while it is moving and nobody can open your car at say traffic lights and attack you or steal something off the seat. It certainly isn't a hindrance 'cos all the doors unlock when you unlock yours or at the push of a switch?

Well I have a 300 and I would love to be able to get my doors to lock as the car moves off. Is there a way to program this in.

    Found this on the web

I think this lot might help

    (a) Locking linked with the shift position

All the doors are locked automatically when the selector lever is moved out of the "P" position with the ignition switch in the "ON" position. This is suppose to be the default setting for new vehicles.

    (B) Unlocking linked with the shift position

All the door are unlocked automatically when the selector lever is moved to the "P" position with the switch in the "ON" position.

© Locking linked with the vehicle speed

All the doors are automatically locked when the vehicle speed reached 12 mph or higher. However, if any door is unlocked during driving, the auto function will not operate until the unlocked door is opened once.

    (d) All the doors are unlocked automatically when the driver's door is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned from "ON" to the "ACC" or "LOCK" position.

    Setting the functions

    1. Close all the doors.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

    3. Within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position;

    +To set function (a)

Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in the "P" position.

    +To set function (B)

Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector switch in the "P" position.

    +To set fuction ©

Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector switch in any position except "P".

    +To set function (d)

Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector switch in any position except "P".

All the doors are automatically locked and unlocked when you release the power door lock switch. This indicates that the functions is set. If all the doors do not lock and unlock, the time the switch was held may have been too short or too long. Perform the procedure over again starting at step 1.

If you want to cancel a function, repeat the procedure. Each time you perform the procedure, the function is set or cancelled.

    Hope it helps Nev ;)

  5. I was giving the engine bay a bit of a tidy up when i noticed this valve type thingy attached to the front of the radiator, it has a grey plastic screw off top with an 'H' on it, underneath looks like some type of valve, I'm taking a guess here that it's for the air conditioning gas? but whats the 'H' stand for and whats the inspection glass for? looking empty btw.

    Anybody any ideas?

    Cheers ta Nev

  6. Just put on 18" alloys straight off a mk2 RX300 onto my mk1 RX300, went on a treat, I used 235/55/18 tyres, get a little rub on full lock but nothing to worry about. Looks much better in my opinion too.

Interesting....I have the same but presently running 235/50x18 Pirelli Scorpions....they are no where near the body or inner arches front or rear.....where do you get the foul condition? I am interested as I have a full set of 255/55x18 Contis to go on soon....(also a set of 15mm spacers for this combination)....

As to the geometry question I reckon you had better have a little chat with WIM, see if they know...I am sure they have sorted an RX before!

    Best regards David

Like I say Dave, only seems to get a slight rub on full lock,(could be just me being paranoid) asked the fitter at KwitFik, to check them over and he gave me the o.k, haven't used spacers btw, went straight on no problems with the offsetting.

  8. DOES ANY BODY HAVE THE DETAILS REQUIRED FOR RX 300 WITH 18 WHEELS

    IE CAMBER OFSET ETC

Just put on 18" alloys straight off a mk2 RX300 onto my mk1 RX300, went on a treat, I used 235/55/18 tyres, get a little rub on full lock but nothing to worry about. Looks much better in my opinion too.

  9. am about to start looking for an rx300 but an unsure of which model to go for. i have a max budget of around 10k so am unsure of whether to go for a higher mileage mk2 or a low mileage mk1. is the facelift model that much better as the prices are much much higher for the mk2, are they really that much better. i think that the dash looks loads better in the mk2 but what are the other differences between the 2, is the engine and box the same etc and do they have similar high spec levels, anything that i should make sure that it definately has.

i am buying it with the intention of towing a caravan so have read that the air suspension would be better but is this likely to be more of a money pit in the future over a model with standard springs.

are there any big expensive services to look out for or any known faults that i should be checking for. my heart says to go for the mk2 as the interior looks superb and i really dont like the two tone colours that most of the mk1's seem to come with but for my budget there will not be a lot of choice so my head says to go for a mk1 and get a really decent low miles example, what do you think.

any help much appreciated as this will be by far the most i have ever spent on a motor and i want to make sure that i dont buy a lemon especially with the new tax rules meaning that it may become difficult to sell on again in the future.

    thanks in advance.

One main factor which helped me choose between a low mileage mk1 and a high mileage mk2 was for the lpg conversion, in a mk1 the lpg tank goes where the spare wheel is, inside under the carpet at the back, whereas in the mk2 the lpg tank goes underneath/outside the car at the back, which in my opinion seems pretty close to the ground, in all conversions I've seen anyway. Well worth going for the lpg too, as last weekend, went on a 1000 mile jaunt, costing just under £100.

Service charges I've been quoted by Lexus Exeter are around £235 for my upcoming 40k service, and around the mid £500 for the biggy 60k service which I understand they do everything, cam belt included.

My tip would be to go for a low mileage mk1 for around the £8k mark, and spend the remaining 2k on getting it converted to lpg,if you're going to keep it for at least 4-5 years it should have paid for itself by then, but hey that's just my opinion.

  10. Well I finally picked the car up today, fully converted to lpg. Had a look around, all nice and tidy under the bonnet, spot on colour coded filler cap, the 79l 4 hole tank, sitting nicely where the spare should be. Took it for a test drive, felt nice, no difference to running on petrol whatsoever, nice and quiet, no smells coming from anywhere. Aparently I have the PowerJet SGI System installed, with the Flashlube for valve lubrication added, plus for piece of mind I took out their extended warrently of two years, they give you the first year anyway. The chap at the garage then gives me a run down on the basics, filling, switches etc, btw one thing I did take note of is that it's best not to fill up the lpg tank more than 80% of maximum, for safety reasons, and not to park in direct sunlight.

Tried to haggle with the bloke on the final price, due to the fact they had it an extra couple of days, but that fell on deaf ears, so after I parted with the best part of 1800 quid, said adieu and set off up the A38, couldn't open it up due to the fact its p****** down but engine still sweet as a nut, and economy working out roughly 11p per mile. Will try and put some pics up when this bleedin' rain stops. :crybaby:

  11. It's now 5p.m Friday, by rights should have had the car by 3p.m yesterday, but nope apparently its still at Lexus Plymouth waiting to go on their diagnostic comp, well that's what the bloke told me at 1p.m, and not heard anything else as yet from them, oh he did mention though that I might not get the car back till Monday, if it's not sorted out today, told him as politely as possible that I wasn't a happy chappy! What's a bloke to do? 4 days now without the Lexus, and really cheesed off, just have to see what tomorrow brings.

  12. Right then, chap rings back from lpg garage with the codes as follows:

P1300 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #1)

P1305 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #2)

P1310 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #3)

P1315 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #4)

P1320 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #5)

P1325 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #6)

He's still scratching his head as to what the problem is and that he's going to try and take it to Lexus in Plymouth, to put it on their diagnostic comp,( if they can slot him in that is.) So then I give Gary a ring up at CLS Duel fuel ltd in Durham, cracking bloke, nothing too much trouble, and very informative!

Tells him the error codes I got and he reckons one of two things, they've spliced into a coil wire, and its a bad connection , and just needs checking and wiring up properly, or the other alternative is that they've spliced into the coil wire, or wherever it is they've spliced into, and they've accidently blown something. Seeing as these are the only codes that are coming up at the minute, I'm hoping that it's the first option, I just don't know, maybe tomorrow I'll know better, once it's been to Lexus, if it get's into Lexus that is. In the meantime they've supplied us with a 12 year old beamer as a courtesy car, and the missus has a 200 mile round business trip tomorrow, fingers crossed there then.Happy days :crybaby:

  13. Hi,

O.k heres the problem, I have a Lexus rx300 which has just gone in for lpg conversion. The problem is I've just had the mechanic on the phone telling me that the car won't be ready to pick up as he's getting both the engine management light and the vsc light coming up on the dash. Apparently the engine starts and idles, no problem, but when the accelerator is pressed down it coughs and splutters. He has had a code come up on his obdb comp (0315) but I don't seem to have the code in the loc list of diagnostic codes. He's going to hook it up again just to re-check the code, then ring me back.In the meantime I'm putting this on here just in case anybody else has had this problem, or has the professional savvy to know what the cause might be. Hopefully this will be just a 5 minute job to fix. BTW the engine was spot on before it went into the garage.

Cheers in advance for any info that might sort it out. Nev

  15. Hi all, thought I'd show my face in here and introduce myself and my car.

I live in Newton Abbot, Devon and have just bought my RX300 SE 2003 MK1 after having my Omega Elite 2.5 td estate written off 2 weeks ago.

So far after nearly a week, it's an absolute dream to drive, me and family are well chuffed with it, next month I'm having it converted to LPG, hopefully giving me an even bigger grin on my face. :D Cheers all Nev.

  16. Firstly I'd like to say hi to all members, as I'm new in here.

Having just bought an RX300 SE MK1 2003, I reckon I'll be in and out of here quite a bit, gleaning all types of info I can, and hopefully adding a few bits and bobs of knowledge if I'm able to also!

Bought the car Friday, absolutely smashing to drive, much better than my last car, a 2000 Omega 2.5td auto Elite estate, which somebody nicely wrote off for me 2 weeks ago.

After trolling through many reviews and forums concerning the RX300, being spoilt previously with the economics of the previous car being a diesel, I've come to the conclusion, that I'll be much better off converting to LPG.

I was warned tho by Lexus main dealer at Exeter, that if I went for the RX300 MK2 I wouldn't be able to convert to LPG, after numerous enquiries with LPG convertion garages, the feedback I got back was that it was totally o.k to convert mk2's, but it was a ball-ache converting because of the spare wheel being underneath the car, as opposed to the mk1 where the spare wheel is located inside, at the back where spare wheels are usually stored.

So next month I'm booked into OZON LPG INSTALLATIONS in Plymouth, who'll do the conversion for £1400 all in, very reputable too as they were featured on the local news, concerning the recent increase in LPG conversions.

The only grey area with the LPG convertion, is whether or not to go for the Flashlube or not? as some say go for it, and some say not to bother, I'd like to hear of any feedback on that before I go ahead and add it on.
