  1. Had a chat to my MOT place and they answered all my questions.

A car does not have to have a CAT to pass the MOT, they can't fail it if it is not there (not my words but the MOT place). BUT the car will not be able to reach the emmissions level required if it does not have one.

So you can remove either the 2 manifold ones and leave the main one in or remove the main one and hope the 2 manifold ones are up to the job.

Or remove the manifold ones and put a sports cat in, which is the route I will go with mine.

  2. diesle the power of evil.

only joking i just not a fan but they are getting faster an faster. can petrol keep up in the future or are we all goin to end up in diesle cars.

My Is200 returns 30mpg. my old Citroen C5 HDI (Chipped by superchips so 185bhp) returned 38mpg. My old Saab 95aero gave 15mpg on LPG :crybaby: Todays fuel prices make the IS200 cheaper to run.

Real life example of 2 cars running the same trip with the same driver driven in the same way. The IS200 is quicker with less BHP, so diesel has a way to go yet.............

  3. yea this weekend I have got the following:

Coil overes (Koni) great on previous cars so why not!!

    Janspeed exhaust (cat back)

Sports cat from powerflow (need to get that fitted unless any one can suggest a better option)

    K&N replacement filter.

and when I have a few quit lying around there will be a cam-con unit or something like that, I Need your good advice on that one though!! It should re-tune the engine to make the best use of higher flowing mods. The aim is 170 to 175bhp on a N/A setup

Coil overs are because the cost of springs and dampers equate to the same as coilovers give or take £100 or so, my dampers are 92000 miles old so will be quite worn, even the front tires wear differently.

Oh and a trip to the good Dr WIM as a matter of course!! spoke to him today, top chap by the sounds of it!!

Now all I need is to fit it all.

  4. At the moment the car is standard apart from 18" alloys, hids, sport body kit. I would like to increase the lower to mid range pick up, not to interested in top end speed as I like my clean license. Without spending the fortune that a S/C or turbo would be as I have a MR2 turbo engine and 'box in need of a rebuild (cracked head and big end rumbles) that may well go in late next year, depending on how hard the conversion would be.

  5. To be honest i went up at 1PM on the Sunday to see the following;

No traders (unless you want chavy stickers)

No owners clubs (not even Lexus!!)

    No track usage

    plenty of food traders

some people displaying drifting, not a patch on the show at silverstone earlier this year.

So I hung around for an hour and left, nothing to see.

Looks like Jap car owners ain't water proof :whistling:

Could have been a good show but was a complete waste of time and money.

So all I have to show for it is a filthy car :tsktsk:

See you all at the next show so long as it is sunny :winky:

  6. LPG converted cars need special set up, it should start on petrol and only change to gas when operating temp. is reached so it is unlikely to be the problem.

The BRC system is a good one so as long as it is serviced and set up correctly it won't cause you problems. You have to have the best spark plugs in perfect condition for any car to run on LPG with the gap set at 0.9mm - 1mm MAX, all HT leads etc. must be in perfect condition as the system will draw slightly higher power from the coils due to the lower gap.

The IS needs valve seat wear protection, so if your valves have been damaged by not having the protection that could be the problem, look under your bonnet for a bottle of flashlube or similar?????

My advice is to check sparks, leads and starter motor then if you can't find a clear fault take it to an installer of BRC equipment, don't let "just anybody" service a LPG car. I have had an LPG car before and it gave nothing but hassle until it went to a competent fitter, who plugged it in to his laptop and solved all the problems.

  7. I would rather drive the IS rather than the Boxster for longer runs, but for fun the Porsche wins every time.

The IS is more fun than the Saab Aero I last owned even though its giving 100BHP less, it handles so much better, the Aero could not corner with ANY degree of safety having 250BHP going through the front wheels the under steer was trouser filling :crybaby:

I get 25 MPG out of the IS and 28MPG out of the Porsche, the Porsche does not need revs to make it go, its pick up is very early on in the rev range.

Cars really are strange things some you gotta hate, and others just make you smile and all for different reasons!!
