  1. Again today i have had to go and buy another key fob and have a new key cut, its only costing me a £10, but getting rather annoying, 4 in 8 months is becoming a pain in the rear. at first i thought it was my fault maybe not pushing the ignition in propoly therefore causing to much resistance between the metal and the plastic, but after months of conciously making sure im pushing the ignition in properly on start up, ive had another keyfob break. so whilst standing in my laser cutters, who ive got to know well, we came up with a suggestion, and maybe those of you with more technical knowledge may be able to say yes thats a cracking idea, or no, your a fool, so here is the suggestion. if im correct the newer lexi's have flip key fobs, if iget one of these either just the shell or with an imobiliser, would i be able to 1, fit the original imobiliser into the shell, or 2, programme the immobiliser in the key already to my IS200. My dad has a Ctiroen C4 with a flip key fob, and the key works on its own ratchet, therefore there is no stress on the key fob itself on start up. just an idea, anybody reckon it can be done?
  2. ive just been to the petrol station and put £61 worth of petrol in my is200 from just above empty, which should fill the car, however on the way back home ive glanced at my petrol guage and its showing just above a quater full?!?!?! ive checked all the pipes and the tanks, no leaks and all the petrol definalty went into the tank, but even if £61 hadnt filled the tank, it would definatly fill the tank more than that. so anybdy got any suggestions
  3. I hear what everybody says, just because a road is clear doesnt mean you should do stuid speeds up them, however they always pick the wide open roads, they pick one in birmingham where there are no footpaths so pedestrians are very few and far between. but how many of these cameras or speed gun vans do you see by schools? because ive never seen one, or in well buils residential areas, i.e the road next to mine where 2 paticualr idiots who by the looks of them have just swapped their green license for a pink one and have decided they are going to try and beat their lap record of the circuit they have decided to make, but they wont put them there, because 99% of road users on this road travel at 30mph or below due to the width and shape of the road in parts. instead they will put not very well placed innefective speed bumbs, which wrecks everyones suspension!! however just a small piece of advice ive picked up, camera enforcement vans, and speed partnership offciers by law have to display a portable speed sign approximatly 50 meters from their van, so if u see a portable put up speed sign, theres a cemera van lurking somewhere.
  4. yeah i beleive it is the master key because when i insert the key into the ignition the security light goes out immediatly. maybe i could do with your contact if you dont mind mate, cheers
  5. ok, so ive done all the searches for how to programme a key to my 2000 IS200, and ive tried all that came up, however no joy, my key will still not programme to the car, any ideas anybody on what i can do or where i can go to sort this?
  6. thanks for that guys, i did try and do the search yestersay but for some reason my computer/the site wouldnt display any answers every time i asked any questions, but cheers again
  7. hi guys. can anyone tell me the easiest wat to remove my radio/cd player from my is200 cheers
  8. My unit did exactly the same a week back so i found myself on ebay, if you type in "car cd player" into ebay you will get a 7inch dvd,cd,tv,p3,reverse camera unit for arounf £155.50 postage included. it comes from china. im a bit of an ebay addict and im sure a few people will tell you to be carefull when electrical item come from but ive used this guy before for several electrical items and they are top notch items. this unit also comes with blue tooth, microphone, double din fascia and coverter harness and 1 year warranty, which if you do need to send it back, they pay the P and P. it all depends how you feel about buying from ebay and from over seas, but its a great smart looking piece of kit, just a suggestion
  9. in the 8 months of owning my is200 ive had to change all 6 coil packs twice, after taking it to diferent garages t find out the reason, i finally discovered that the bosch super 4 sarks were frying the coil packs. i now have some manufacture recommended plugs and no problems with the coils and the car is running so much better. just my personal opinion
  10. evening all, ok the next problem with my is200 happened this morning, a long list of problems, however this one isnt major just a tad anoying. i got in my v plate is200 this morning and went to change a cd, i wanted to change the cd in slot one, so i scrolled through to slot one and ejected the disk, i wasnt paying to much attention to the cd player because it was early and i was making sure i had got everything for work before pulling off. the disk ejected after what i thought was a long time and i pressed the load button to insert the new disk and offered the disk to the cd slot but it wouldnt takt it, and then i noticed the orange lights were not flashing. i then realised that the cd player had not started playing disk 2, as it normally would if there was no disk in slot one, and the code err3 appeared on the display, i changed to disk 2 and again same err3 code displayed. i turned the engine off, tried it again, the same code, drove to work with the normal radio working fine, no problems and tried it again 8 hours later when leaving work, still no cd function available. has any body got any ideas whats wrong with it, or do i need to get looking on ebay for a new radio unit?
  11. does any body know of any independant lexus specialist in the west midlands?
  12. hi guys. yesterday i was out enjoying the sun in my 1999 is200 and suddenly the usual coil pack failure symtoms developed, juddering, engine and trc off flassing, and popping noise from the exhaust, im an expert in this department as it happened to me a couple of months ago. when it happened last time i got some coils for a good price so baught a couple of spares just in case, and joyfully set to work in the sun systematically changing them around and testing them. an hour and a half later after doing every test with the spare coils, and the car was still what i thought was misfiring. so i called the AA, i have free breakdown cover with my bank ad ive used them before when ive had problems and their mechanics are absolutly brilliant offering me nothing but fantastic service. so AA man comes within 20 minutes of my phone call, i explain the problem about a misfire and he starts the engine up and straight away says i dont think thats a misfire, and asks had i had loss of power, well thinking about it the answer is no, i hadnt, car was running fine expect the lumpy ride. so AA man plugs the car into the system and car is displaying NO faults, and he did this 4 times and called his mate who was on a job not far away to use his just in case his macine was faulty, and second macine comes along and again no electroinc faults, coil packs are fine, sensors fine. so we clear the warning lights, start it up and he takes it for a spin, warning lights reappear and his verdict is faulty cat converter. ive spoken to a mate of mine who is handy under a motor and he says that they are easy to change, he has done a few, all we got to do is find one now, he recommended a second hand one. no ive come to the fountain of knowledge to ask apart from taking it to lexus and them rapeing my wallet, is there a test that can be done before i start finding a cat to make sure it is faulty? and any ideas how much a new one will be? cheers guys anticipating replies.
  13. Hi guys. when i baught my IS200 last year, it either needed the front passenger wing repaired, or replaced, well ive tracked one down on ebay at a great price so im going to replace it. Im fairly good when it comes to car DIY such as body panels and interior bits, however i do leave the engine to experts. However i just wondered if any of you have replaced the wing, and is there anythin to watch out for, tricky hiden bolts, any tips to make it easier, or is it as simple as it looks. Also after an argument with a faulty electronic gate i also need the bootlid repaired/replaced, again from the same seller ive got a great deal on the bootlid, again anythin i need to watch out when replacing that, i.e when it comes to the electronic opening of the boot from the keep fob. Cheers guys, and gals
  14. I have found for all scratched the best stuff to use is "G4", its expensive at about 7quid a bottle, but it really is worth it, i baught my IS200 with a key scratch, running from the frot wing to the back door, and with this stuff it polished right out, other T-cutters wasnt even touching it, i can recommend this stuff highly enough as it works by blending the paint outside the scratch into the scratch giving it a pefect finish.
  15. Love my car but also had some problems with mine. baught my stunning is2oo in aztec red, 80k miles on a V plate in October 2008. November 2008 - clutch failed, but it was the only clutch it had had since new, so i was just unlucky November 2008/2 days later - had my car back, nice to clutch, stupid mechanics had knocked a pipe out of the engine, lots of smoke no heat ect, went balistic at the mechanics for shurking their responcibility November 2008/4 days later - had the car back, running great, all pipes fixed in the right place, yeehaa develop misfire, not 1, not 2 but three coils faulty, AA man says he has never seen 3 go befor. Boxing day 2008 - lexus has a fight with a faulty electric gate, damage = shattered rear windscreen, huge 6 inch long, half ince wide scratch and dent to boot, but the owners of the car park accepted liability and refunded me the cost of the all wrk, including £600 quid for a rear windscreen, but since then, fingers crossed lexus reliability is holding up, what i hae learned though is that the AA and Auto glass are brilliant companies, whos engineers are nothing but reliable and do everthing they can and more to assist, and the mechanics at a midlands nationwide auto centre are nothing but a bunch of monkeys who have no idea how an engine works
