  1. Thank you guys, for your recomendations, it is much appreciated.

Funnily enough I had highlighted GOCOOL when I had a trawl around the net, so it's good to have a personal recomendation.

I will contact both of them, fill them in on the history, and see what they think.

I'll report back in due course.

    Many thanks once again.

  2. So have they said that the problem is a leak or is it a blocked system?... Leaks can be tricky to find in an engine bay but not impossible... UV dye is of limited use and is more of a marketing device... If the leak is big enough for dye to escape then so will the oil, look for a damp patch... To confirm, pressurise the system to around 200psi with Oxygen free Nitrogen and spray with leak detector fluid... If the issue is a blockage, then this may be caused by metal debris from a disintergrating compressor, dessicant from a damaged drier pack or If anyone in the past has used aircon stop leak, then the stop leak may have set in the pipes/drier.. In the case of the stop leak, then if it has set, it will never be totally removed and your aircon will give trouble untill the car is scrapped as bits of sealer will periodically break off and clog the drier or the expansion valve...

A bit more info on your issue would be nice, as for a refund, don't count on it.. What year is your car?

Thanks for your info. and sorry for the delay in replying.

The car is a 2004, and I have owned it for exactly 1 year.

THe problem is that the system is leaking, it was only when they attempted to regas it the second time that they encountered a problem, and that was when the foreign matter was encountered

I bought it in October, and only use it occasionally so I'm not exactly sure when it stopped working.

I know a little history of the car, and would be very surprised if "aircon stop leak" had been used.

I did not see the debris the garage mention, but they described it as congealed oil.

Any other infomation I can give you?

  3. I'm looking for a really first class aircon engineer in the Bristol/South West area.

I had my LS430 recharged, and all seemed OK for about 3 weeks.

The people who did it (recommended on this forum) told me to bring it back if there were any problems.

I did as they said, they had it for about a week, they had a good look at it, and felt the only place where they thought there might be a leak was at the refilling point.

They changed the valves, but then they found they couldn't recharge it, they brought in a specialist (name unknown to me) and he suggested there may be some "foreign matter/congealed oil in the system), pipes were removed and cleaned and now all was well.

The recharge has lasted about 4 weeks.

I'm loathe to take it back, as I believe it's beyond their level of expertise, and would welcome any comments and recommendations for some who is really good.

I don't mind travelling to get this sorted out once and for all.

    Thanks in anticipation

  4. I've noticed that the boot gets a bit damp.

Whilst checking the seals I noticed the right hand side of the boot does not fit as well as the left.

There doesn't appear to be any adjustment.

My question is would I be best advised to tale it to a body repair specialist or a Lexus dealer.

Be interested in what you think

Second question as my LS430 has A/c in the back need I got to a specialist for a recharge or can I leave this to my local otherwise competent garage

  5. Hi there, I've been trawling the internet but thought I'd float this one in the LOC just in case.

My Nokia N96 will pair with my Lexus LS's factory fitted ML bluetooth kit no problem but it will not let me transfer the phonebook from the phone to the car's memory. This could easily be a problem between the seat and the keyboard, so apologies if the answer is in front of my eyes.

Any ideas why? answers how would be gratefully appreciated, also it wont work, stop looking also appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my Samsung , paired OK, worked OK , but could not transfer numbers.

Another poster suggested Sony Ericsson's usually worked, I had an old one lying around so transfered my numbers to this, and from this to the car, and it worked a treat.

  6. Thank you all for your prompt responses - very impressive! I suppose I shouldn't be surprised as we all chose to own a Lexus, and are therefore of keen judgement!

I read the thread about the new DVD forcing a route through Central London. This is not isolated to the new DVD. My 2001 LS version always chooses a route through Central London as opposed to the M25 etc. Strange as, when I travel between Manchester and Wirral (which I do alot) the choice of many different motorways around Manchester and the M62 to Liverpool and M56/3 to Wirral always seems to be flawless and agrees with Autoroute etc.

Maybe Central London holds a strange attraction for SatNav units!

Interesting that about the 2001 version, the 2004 which came with my car gets it right using the M25. So it looks like they've gone back to their old ways. Strange

  7. OK to put this one to bed from my point of view

Navteq never responded to two further emails from myself, so we can assume they are not interested in bugs in their product.

Lexus mapupdates were very good in respect of answering emails but they couldn't do anything until the next update around Oct/Nov 2009.

The have however agreed to refund my money, and have arranged to collect the discs via DHL.

My view is that although it would be nice to have up to date roads, and POI's, it is more important to me to have a system that calculates routes with some degree of intelligence

  8. This is part of the reply I received from Navteq

    Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ.

NAVTEQ have not influence on the route calculations that are made by your navigation system as this is determined by the navigation system.

I replied asking them that if this is the case why does the original 2004 version route correctly, and also whether the disc included a firmware update.

I await their response, and will report accordingly

    Andrew

Just an update NAVTEQ have gone quiet, since I asked for their clarification, and the supplier Lexus-mapupdates is "still waiting to hear from the person who deals with this"

    Reminders sent
