  1. That seems to be a reasonable explanation of this behavior. And yes this happens in 5th and even 4th gear as well. However, this seems only happen when it is cold out side and the engine is cold. When the engine temp reaches the optimal temperature all goes back to normal, the transmission/engine stops doing this. The car is from 2012, I think it starts doing this for a year ago or so. Is this a sign that something needs to be replaced down the road? Or should I take easy on this? I'm planning to keep the car few more years.

  2. I'm having this annoying problem with my IS250 from 2012. When I'm cruising on highway gentely accelerate and lift the foot off the gas pedal, the engine rev dips briefly and comes back. It feels like a very brief engine brake. This seems happens only before the engine is fully warmed up and in any gear. Anyone know why it does this? :uh:

Here is a recording of this strange behaviour

  3. Driver's window has this occasional cracking sound when it's all the way up, lowered slightly and the sound can't be heard, anyone has this also?

I had a loaner 300h while my 250 F-sport was in for service. a brand new car and it has this rattle you described, plus a terrible rattle from the center console. sounds like 2 metal sheets vibrate against each other. I have to say that the interior build quality is pretty bad compares to 2nd gen IS. The whole center console looks ok, but feels realy cheap and low quality. So does the doors, seats, steering wheel and the boot. Glad that I didn't swap to 3rd gen IS.

  4. So sorry about this mate, but just watch the quality of the repair (can't tell if the black is metallic or not). When my GS was keyed last year it went in to Lexus, and even though they did a pretty good job, the newly painted side is way shinier than the factory finish, and the Metallic bits are totally different to the factory finish - it grates on me and hopefully yours will be OK. If someone looks carefully it's obvious, and cannot be fixed unless I have a full respray.

    Just watch that one.

Also, £5500? Wow! Thats a lot!

So you accepted the result?? My dealer reprinted my rear bumper 4 times (they had to order a new bumper after the 3rd time) to get the color spot on, without blend in to other panels ( I have 3 stage white pearl paint). You should let them repaint until you are satisfied with the result. OP's car is black, it should be pretty easy for them to get a good result.
  5. I agree, I considered alternatives because of the RWD only, AWD would be a great option. The US in particular seem to have very limited choice, especially in F Sport. There must be some logic to it but I can't see it.

It must be that if they offer all options on Fsport, it will affect the sale on the regular luxury version. I personally think the options they miss out on Fsport is not a big deal. The car is pretty well equipped anyway. Here in Europe, the most sales of IS will be middle equipped regular version of 300h, as company fleet cars. So they can offer all options on Fsport for private buyers. It won't fit in to the company car price range anyway. :)

    That's just want I think. :)

  6. Yes, I'm sure you're right, but not available in the UK. having said that, the 300h F Sport, IMO, is an excellent car with 3 distinct driving style options and excellent fuel economy.

I know, its a shame that we don't get 350 in Europe. We don't even get the AWD model.

I even think the Fsport package suits better on a 250 than 300h. Too bad the 250 doesn't receive the new 8 speed gearbox and the active suspension that 350 Fsport has. Strange decisions from Lexus, I must say.

  7. I have driven the IS300h, a non F-sport and with highest trim level. Same configuration & body color as the one in AutoExpress's review. I don't understand why some people have to talk down that review, as I find they are pretty much spot on, on the good & bad point of the car. I have a 250 F-sport, great car. But a bit soft. The 300h is even softer than the 250. I drove the 300h in sport almost under entire test drive. It feel like my 250 in ECT normal. It looks sporty but doesn't drive particular sporty due to the CVT transmission. It's a shames, because the handling is very good. It just doesn't have the power train to match it. I think Lexus should have programmed the transmission differently. Also that synthetic sound, is no where near as good as the F-sport intake in my car. It feels cheap to have a sound generator, maybe it is because I have had a cheap sound generator gadget which you can put in the cigarette lighter and you get the sound through the stereo. I got a american v8 one and it sounds absolutely embarrassing when its on.

  8. Just saw a very good video review of IS300h F-sport. The summary is The chassis is good and it handles better than the previous IS but it lacks of any kind of sportyness due to ECVT. It doesn't feel like the car has 200+ BHP. When you want the power, its not there (pretty much like CT200h).

Peronally I think Lexus should not offer F-sport package on 300h. Tehy should focus more on luxury and comfort. The main goal of 300h is the fuel economy not spoty driving. The F-sport is better suited on IS250/350 (even though the 250 also lacks of power). A 300h F-sport is like a sheep in wolf's clothing. I hope Lexus will address this issue on the next refresh of the 3IS. :)

  9. UpSideDown, re. ..." F-sport performance intake .."

Do I already have this on my stock MY2011 F-Sport?

In any case, could you give us more details about this please?

Presumably it would affect my warranty?

    Argento

It's an option part that not come with the car. It help the engine breath better and it sounds like a IS-F above 3,5-4k rpm. Its made by Lexus/Toyota and will not affect your waranty

  10. noby76, thanks very much for making this available to us.

I'll read and study it carefully.

    UpSideDown re.

"I have it switched on all the time on my car"

Yes, I think that is the best way.

    Like the air-con .... .... :-)

I'll probably go the whole hog and switch permanently to Sport mode!

    Argento

Once you switched to PWR mode and get used to it, its impossible to switch back to granny mode. :D
