  1. I got 18" 225/40 Nokia Hakkapelittas 5 studded winter tires. Wondering how long the socks will last before the studs tear it up...

Why would you want to use autosocks with studded tyres?

Well, I got stuck at my parking lot last winter in a snowstorm. There were thick wet snow on the ground with mirror like hard ice under it. I stuck there like no tomorrow. Studded tire didn't help a sh*t Had to call friends to push out my car. Don't want to end up in that situation again this winter.

Ps, I just cannot understand why the h*ll does Lexus not offer AWD model in europe?!?!?

  2. Not actually my car but I know what you meant :)

I wouldn't say it's super easy to close on this car but it is a lot easier than opening it, makes you wonder what kind of springs they've put in there! Also it's a bit weird how we've got so many different experiences with the bootlids on the same car!

Another annoyance I discovered yesterday, had to pick something up but left the engine running as I had some passengers who wanted to stay warm, went to put it in the boot but there's no button on the bootlid any more? Then tried the key fob but because the engine was running that doesn't work either! So had to go back into the car and use the button in there.........

I think my trunk lid opens more easily when I bought the car new last year and gradually got heavier. The lid feels heavier in winter even there is not snow or ice on it. Feels like ice builds up inside the lid. It doesn't require any force to slam it close from full open.

    OT - The hood.

Every time I close it I literally have to slam it, or else it wont close. Is it the same on other 250s?

By the way. There is a push butten located to the right of the backing camera. Press and hold it and it will unlock the trunk.

  3. When i use the windscreen washer, im afraid that the best i can manage in a sad trickle rather than a powerful spray. As a consequence, only the lower portion of the screen gets clean. I have tried clearing out the nozzles but it doesnt make any difference. Anybody have any ideas how this can be sorted?

    Cheers

Try to use the washer when you slow down a bit. Mine does that too when I drive fast on the highway. You can also activate the headlight washer to boost the windscreen washer. It will spray everywhere include your windscreen, hood, roof etc... Done use it if you just washed your car!

  4. Do you have full movement in the vertical plain using the remote adjustment on the rocker switch? Mine doesn't have any movement at all.The Stealership has ordered another complete mirror unit (under warranty) without a look at the car, so I'm assuming the 'common problem' is a dead motor. I can move the mirror manually, so the gearing appears to be free enough.

Mine works when I manually adjust the mirror up and down with the rocker switch. It is only the auto tilt function doesn't work allway. I have seen quite a few on US forum that got same problem with their mirror. But their IS is from 2006-2007 so I thought that my late 2009 shouldn't have this problem. It seems like the problem is too small for Lexus so they don't bother to address it. Like the rattles...

  5. I am in the process of buying an IS 220d and have a young son 2.5 years old who sits in an upright forward facing car seat. Are any of the rear air bags likely to cause a problem with this? If so can they be turned off. I've read posts that say this is not a problem in the front seat, and it can be turned off anyway, but not sure about the back.

It shouldn't be any problem in the back. The only airebag in the back is side curtain. The only airebag you can turn off is the front passenger airbag.

Here is the crash video from euro ncap:

  6. Just thought I would share the good news...

Looks like Lexus have found a fix for the Boot Lid/Bumper issue... Car was in for another respray of boot/bumper beginning of Sept, a few days after it came back out I got a call from the dealer to say they had a solution..

The four rubber stops on the boot lid were replaced with slightly longer ones. I have been running the car since then and have paid special attention to the danger area, so far so good, no recurrence of the problem..

So if anyone has any concerns pop down to your dealer and ask for the new rubber stops, easy fix just pull out the old stop and push in the new one.. Happy days :)

I don't have this problem. The rubber stoppers on my trunk lid is about 1,5cm long. How long are new stoppers you got?

  7. I know you can start the AC (plus other stuff) without to start the engine by press start button 2 times with your foot off the brake. I want to do this in the morning during the winter to warm up the car without ideling the engine while I'm removing the snow and ice from the windshield and smoke a cigarette. :winky:

Now the question is how long will the Battery last in this mode? Anyone know?

I don't have a block heater and will not install one either cause my parking lot doesn't have power outled...

  8. That's good progress in a day :)

Keep us updated on how toy get on as a couple of the other faults should not be left untouched.

Yeah, the tech did a pretty good job. Been told that he reassembled whole center console and isolate everything there, the panels under the steering colum, wing mirrors, inner rearview mirror etc. He also lubed some linkage joins/sleeves in the rear to get away the click noise (nr. 6)... Strange that you need to do this on a brand new car.

Comments from the service rep on the untouched faults (quite entertaining :) ):

    5, Squeaky driver seat.

    - This is because I have full leather seats. And leather will make noise due to it's nature. ( Speechless. Almost make me feel stupid for a sec. duhh... )

8, A gap between the head light housing and the bumper om drivers side.

    - Due to the shape of the plastic bumper it cannot be tightened further and it's normal that it can be a gap on the bumper. (No gap on other 250s they have. Think he left it untouch either because too much work involved to reassemble the bumper or to avoid to replace a missshaped bumper. Not sure there. )

10, The front passenger door closes very hard.

    - He said I must be closing the door harder than he does (Which I'm not), as he think it's normal. And due to the safty reason the door will not be adjusted. ( Compared this with the dealer CEOs own brand new 250 and after he tried he acctually noticed this as well. and mentioned that the door maybe can be adjusted. hmm... )

11, Squeaky brake. Sounds like open an un-oiled old door in the morgning.

    - It's normal. Brake hard in the morgning and it will be fine for rest of the day. ( I LOL:ed  )

Anyway, I'm happy that the rest of the problems are fixed within same day (driving around in a RX400H makes me feel 10 years older  ). I really cannot stand all the noise the car makes when driving on rough motorway. Lets see how the untouched problems develop. If it they not getting worse I'll leave them.

    :hehe:

  9. Good news!

Collected the car after work. The tech worked whole day with the car and managed to fix the most of the problems I have on the list. He left 5, 8, 10, 11 undone as he think they are with in tolerance. hmm... Anyway, I'm very happy about the rest of problem are solved! As they are most irritating!

I'm from Sweden and the Swedish price sucks! The car is a fully loaded 2009 face lifted 250 sport made in May/June (Auto, ML, Sat Nav, heat/cool leather seat, Metallic paint, 18" "lobster" wheels, moon roof). The price also include a set of 18" X-sport wheels with studded Nokia winter tire and a professional paint treatment. I'm quite happy with it.

PS, The only thing that looks pre-09 is the moon roof control. I got this dial control (which I like!) instead of the 09 button style I saw from the pictures on the internet...

BTW, Thanks for the comments guys! Now I can enjoy my car again!

  10. sound like you bought a car built on a friday when everyone wanted to go home early so it was rushed............

my is220d has a few minor issues like yours, squeaky seat, dash click every so often etc.

thought the is250 was supposed to be far superior according to this forum but it appears possibly not?

apparently not. Not for me anyway. I shouldn't be forced to crank up my stereo and pretend its all good!

By the way, whe the rattles started in the beganing while I have music on. I almost though I blowed my speakers at Vol 18!

  11. gap around start stop button ? sounds like you really wanted a Bentley for lexus money

    wait for it :whistling:

Now you are funny. B) I think you will be quiet when you seen the gap.

I acctually had these problem just after few weeks after the delivery and I though I could live with these flaws but I'm wrong. I just couldn't stand it any longer.

This car cost me around £37k and it is promoted as a quiet, comfortable and sporty luxery car (thats why I bought it. I love this car!). I certainly didn't expect this kind of flaws only in 2½ month of ownership. To me these small problems can be easily addressed before it leaves the factory. Many of these problems has been found on 06-08 250s and I though they have been fixed on 09 250s. There are TSBs for almost all these problems. Thats something really annoys me.

Lets see what service techs can do about it.
