I have it parked outside the local garage, so they can fit it… I am concerned about the clouds of steam that came off the engine….Any idea's ?

Ok I'll buy one off ebay, how easy is it just to replace ? Looks like 2 bolts and it's off ?

What was the Steam all about ?

Oh dear…! Started the car this evening and the starter would not stop, then it did stop and the engine worked but there were some odd noises…. I have been having an issue where sometimes the engine starter just clicks and sometimes the engine turns over for a long time and does not start, even with the key turned off ..!!!! So I drove to the super market down the road and the engine refused to turn off… at all…. then a smell of blown electrics hit my nose and I though it was the ECU… Then something started to whine higher and higher… and after a few minutes steam started to bellow out of the right hand side of the engine as looking at it with the bonnet open… With the smell of metal on metal friction (I assume the water pump burning out) Then I tried to stop the engine again and it did stop…. Now if you turn the key nothing, coolant levels are within normal range and there appear to be no leaks… My thoughts are… Blown ECU + Ruined Water Pump, (I am assuming the pump is totally electronically controlled and just went mad). So I am looking for a couple of spare parts. I am also hoping that the engine is not beyond repair ….? I was wondering anyone else seen this rather dramatic and exciting event happen ?

Hi, Having issues starting the engine in the morning. First attempt usually always does not turn the engine over at all, second attempt usually does…. Any Idea's ?

Hi I had an Odd sound like a Grinding and whiring…. I changed the wheel bearing (had it changed) but that did not effect it… However I just got the front brakes done and the sound just went, had Brakes and disks replaced… Great. Now I just towed my 30" caravan and a similar noise is back, however this one is different. I think it is a wheel bearing because it almost goes away when the wheels are totally straight, as soon as the wheels turn it comes back again. The noise before came in at about 15 mph and went at about 45 mph, this one is fairly constant although at high speed it is not very noticeable… Car is a GS300 N reg 3 Ltr monster, the manual says it can tow a 2 ton caravan and I've towed the same caravan many times before with the same car no issues. I suspect it just pushed the component over the edge on this occasion… Does this sound like a bearing ? I had one changed last year, possibly it's the other… I can't tell where the noise is coming from , just the front… Thanks.

Thanks, Are the bulbs expensive ? am happy to solder generic bulbs, price is not too important though

Oh. It looks like I can get them in there, the access panel is made to accept them however there seems to be some resitance… also if I feel up to the right there seems to be some thing which feels like a filter but not accessable...

Hi My Temp indicator LED is out… The light does not come on so in the dark you cannot see the time… Annoying, in daytime it's no problem… So is it very difficult to fix ? all other lights are OK...

also I can see the parts I have removed ie access panel are the correct parts as detailed in the instructions.

Hi, I bought a cabin filter for my 1996 GS300, I took the cover from beneth the glovebox, found the access panel removed it, a few leaves fell out and then I see here are no filters in there… infact I can't seem to push the new filters up far enough (the instructions from Toyota say I need to push one in then the next…. anyway I can't there seemsto be some obstacle. I bought these from Toyota after they took the car reg so assume the car does take this filter… not sure what to do … Do I need to take the whole thing apart and recondition it ?

HI I just spent an hour trying to change my spark plugs before I realised 1/ It is too dark… So Stop… Can't see anything… 2/ The pictures I was following were for a Lexus GS300 99 edition and I have a 96 version, which is quite different. Does any one know where instructions are for a 1996 Lexus ? Thanks…

Thanks, Done, I noticed the oli needed changing when the engin would not start properly, about 4 times I tried to satrt and it woul;d not. I thought it was the battery, then the starter motor but it turned out it was low oil. The first turn of the key would do very little (but I guess forced oil where it needed to go) The engin just did not turn over at all, not even much of a rotation once… after that it would start fine… My worry is how much damage did that (or could that ) do ?

Hi i am about to change the oil on a Lexus GS300 1996 I have a filter, and oil. Do I just un do the drain plug. drain, take filter off replace filter and fill ? I gave the garage new washer for the drain plug last time, do I need to change it this time ?

HI My car (gs300 1995) broke down last friday... Battery failed to charge...all the lights came on.... I took to my local garage who fitted a new alternator... but guess what it made no difference, looks like a sliping fan belt.... My point is.... I asked them to refund my money and they said that the old alternator would have been part of the problem and that it was not "Very Efficient"... I thought an alternator worked or did not work, it's efficiency being related to rpm and coil windings... this would make it's efficiency a physical constant would it not ??? So I should get them to put the old one back and fix the real problem ...? I had acually bought a new belt on Friday for the purpose of replacing the belt only... Symptoms are... Air conditioning puts massive strain on belt and slows belt down.... Turn steering hard causes heaving stearing (also due to slipping belt)... but even at speed the battery does not seem to charge.... Possibly belt and battery, but a "inefficient alternator "....? anyone heard of that ? What do people think ?

Ok the noise when you slow down is like a grinding motor winding down... If that is understandable !!...

At about 40 Mph it is noisiest, when you slow down it sounds like grinding, not metal on metal but maybe rumbling.... at speed it is not noticeable. I had a Ford once that made a similar noise and it was the diff, however that made a louder noise all the time...

Well my kids had a fight and mucked about locking and un-locking the car doors..... Now the drivers side will not accept a key... Gets pretty stuck in the lock if you force it in... If you un lock the doors using the passenger door (Which seems fine) all indicators flash like hazard warning... even after the engine is started, this goes on for about 45 seconds and stops. If you use the key fob remote un locking and locking is flawless and there are no hazard warning lights... ....What is going on... ? Lexus GS300 1996

Hi I ahve a slightly Noisy rear differential. It is not too noisy, but I am wondering should I just change the Diff Oil ? Is it safe to add Molyslip or some such product ? Thanks... Lexus GS300 1996

HI a red brake warning light comes on after pressing the brake peddle. It goes off after you switch off the engine, comming on again only when engin on and brake peddle is pressed. Is this just brake pads needing to be replaced ? Thanks... Lexus GS300 1996
