  1. hi guys , i bought a 1 litre bottle of diff oil 80w 90 castrol , is this enough to replace the oil ??

one litre wont be enough if you are draining the oil and planning to put in new oil. you will need about roughlt 5 litres of oil if you want to do a full oil change.

read the title - its not engine oil.

yes 1 litre should be enough - level should be level or to within 5mm of the drain hole - make sure you can undo the fill plug first before removing the drain. You will also need about 1 metre of about 16mm tubing to fill the diff- one end in the diff and the other end via the RH arch, you can not fill the diff properly otherwise.

    sorry about that my mistake.

  2. my insurance is £1800 fully comp, 19yrs old. 0ncb, 2years driving experience....thats with CHURCHILL.

as for insurance price going up...i think its to do with the current economic situation and they are following gas and energy companies, and increasing the insurance premium rate. my dad insurance went up by an extra £10 a month for no reason.

also could be due to the number of accidents and theft rates in the area.

  4. i will give the sound system ago when i am free on a weekend because it can take up to hours because i always end up goin backwards and fowards when doing these things lol

i dont think your sad....just experimenting new things...trial an error lol

as for wheels, i have never bought a full set of tyres when my one are all gone, i end up buying new wheels and tyres! lol

18s will be perfect as it will fill the arches and too much ride comfort wont be lost.

and thanks for your help so far Dekkie77

  5. Hey Rez89,

Very nice looking car you got there, I like the body kit :winky:

Painted calipers are a really good place to start, its a nice simple job but really effective.... i painted mine using a guide off here <clicky>

Heres a link to my post on painting the calipers... Linky

Its all down to personal preference, with mods...

Exhaust: I got a Blue Flame exhaust, its not too noisy wen the car is idling and bimbling about but makes one hell of a roar if you boot it...

Air intake: Either a high flow panel filter, K&N do good ones (cheaper option) or induction kit, the odd one does appear on this forum in the sale section.

ARBs: anti-roll bars are next on my list but are quite expensive at about £400 for a good pair...

You can get your alloys refurbished... before i bought mine the alloys were in a proper nasty state, but the garage got them refurbed before i bought it and they look cracking!... no scratches, scraps or corrosion.... just like brand new... mind you i'm not sure how much that will cost... might be worth looking into as you can change the colour of your alloys if you so wish when they do it...

Hope this helps, good luck and enjoy....

    FiZiX

Thanks for your help...really usefull information :)

i am going to paint my calipers Red because i seen a black is200 with red calipers and looks really nice.

if i get an induction kit...the sound of the engine will sound so nice....the straight six sounds mean an nice without an induction kit....but i will invest in one at a later date....my main thing is to change the brake discs and it is due for a service in 2000 miles so need to save my pennies for that. lol

i am acutally looking into a re-furb to Gun metal grey...because when my alloys are dirty it blends in with the car lol

    Thanks

    Rez

  6. Car looks nice mate, click - this thread will help with install of new head unit, this shows a single din being fitted, but double din is the same process, mines the best thing you'll ever do.

As for the alloys, they all flake / corrode, so a nice set of 18's would be the way to go, unless you want 19's but i beleive some arch rolling will be needed.

i gotta say mate, you have one sexy stunning car there

looks a bit like mine

thanks for the headunit guide...been looking for it for a while....i thouhgt my corolla headunit was hard to take out but from looking at that guide for our IS, my corolla was easy lol

i really want to put all my sound system in but this looks so hard an complicated! Also i like the look of the standard system.

i might take it to a shop which i no does these instaltions.

CAN YOU CONNECT SUB AND AMP TO THE STANDARD HEADUNIT???

as for alloys i would go up to 18s max.

but i dont mind staying at 17s as my car has brand new pirelli p zero tyres all round.

    Thanks

  7. if you have the extra spare cash and are not going to go out of your way to keep up with the monthly payments ontop of other expenses...i say go for because you never no when your car might take a turn for the worst.

my previous car a toyota corolla 1.4 2002, had a gear box failure...and cost me £££s...that was only a few months out of warrenty.

i know japanese cars are known for reliabilty but it also depends on your luck with cars.

if you have the cash go for it mate. :)

  10. the best thing to do is, TELL THE INSURANCE YOUR MUM WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME OF CRASH....SO YOUR EXCESS WILL BE CHEAPER TO PAY!

AND AS FOR THE ACCIDENT....YOU NEED TO PRETEND THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR COMING AT YOU AND YOU HAD TO MOVE OUT THE WAY WHICH CAUSED YOU TO CRASH INTO A TREE.

ITS THE ONLY WAY FORWARD IF YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE ANYTHING.

IT WAS AT NIGHT WASNT IT?

THE INSURANCE WILL PAY OUT AS THE SAME HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND.

Some great advice there, mate!- Rez89 guide on how to commit insurance fraud.

If I'm ever driving in Wirral I hope I don't run into you.

More than 50% insured drivers are commiting insurance fraud without knowing about it i.e. Not telling the actual milage they do..*ny optional extras, mods,

And the main one is people using their parents name as the poplicy holder....and the parents never drive the car!

If I was going to do insurance fraud I'd drive a car under my parents polciy but insurance companies start to charge more now!

My insurance is going to cost me £1800 on my own..which I am ready to pay!

& that is the reason the rest of us have to pay such bloody high insurance . ..... lets hope your friends insurance company reads this and prosecutes or even yours and when you try & have a claim they refuse it

This was years ago....and that did really happen to him! I was jus simply hinting....a possible solution....I didn't mean to impy anything bad. Sorry if I have misled anyone.

  13. Hi,

I had this exact argument with one of the green ones I saw, the owner kept saying it was a sport, checked the logbook and sure enough it was a 'S', also cheers for the links!

an other tip the se and the sport have tinted rear windows the s does not also the s doesnt have the shiney pedals,17"alloys,nice seats, heated seats, fancy stereo or the boot spoiler oh and the sport sits lower.

an other one i came across was a boy trying to pass a se off as a sport..........it was an auto and the sport never came in an auto.

not all of the SE have tinted windows, because i have viewed a few and looked on autotrader and no tints on the SE.

as for the Sport i have seen tints on them :D

  14. WHATS THE CAR LIKE ON PETROL? I ONLY DO 150MILES A WEEK.

The IS200 can be thristy around town. I manage 28-30mpg around town, but on a motorway run I can get about 35mpg (sitting at 70mph). Mines a manual, the auto will be slightly thirster.

cheers for that,on the spec sheet it says it can only do 20.8MPG....town driving! if i can get 25-30 that will be ok for me.

  15. best thing about having a is200 is that the parts are no more expensive than owning a corrolla or avensis.

green wasn't my first choice infact it wasn't even considered but it was in that good nick that i just had to have it and to be honest it has growen on me and a lot of my neighbours think its because its such a deep green?

i think its the modifications which makes the green nice!

thanks for all your help and advice....but just one last question.... WHATS THE CAR LIKE ON PETROL? I ONLY DO 150MILES A WEEK.

  16. you could give it a shot matey,if you go on ebay and pic up pads and disks for not a lot of money.can you work a spanner?

i have changed brake pads on a my old car.....could give discs a try if i go ahead with it....but just might give it to a garage really cba doing DIY these days! lol

its so hard finding a lexus with decent milage, year and price! these cars hold in value!

  17. hi there guys, i am new to the lexus forum my previous car was a toyota corolla 1.4 2002 model.

anyway i am after a lexus is200 and just wanted to know which is the best model to go for...there is an S, SE AND SPORT...am i right in saying the S is the basic model???

i went to have a look at a lexus is200 SE it had 83k was a Y REG....sorted the price out then test drove it and when i was doing 40mph the front two wheels was vibrating really bad! and when i brake and go even faster the vibrate gets worse!

anyone know what the problem could be???

also is there any common faults/problems i should know about?

    thanks in advance.

hi matey and welcome and yip the s is the bottom of the range also their is a LE in the range as well(hard to find),anyway i'd say try and find a sport(thats coz i have one) but the se is almost the same its just missing the LSD and the shiney pedals.

you have just come across the most comon problem sounds like you have warped disks or a sticky caliper mate not too hard to fix though.but apart from that nothing much i've had mine just over a year and the only thing i have spent money on is mods best car i've owned.

    hope that helps

how much do you think it will cost me for new disks or to fix the sticky calipers???

the car was up for sale for £4000.....i got the price down to £3500 before test driving the car....if the case is the brake disks i might offer his £3000.....because when i offered him £3500 he accepted straight away.

    what do you think?
