  1. The car is in the garage. My daughter has now "lost" her 4x4. On the move again !!!. Pair of "as new" tyre socks for sale. Never been on a wheel. Any Takers ???> Yamavira. PS. A set of wheels with studed tyres for next winter.
  2. In agrrrrreement with all earlier posts. IS 250 Auto in the snow. A TOTAL disaster. Might have electronic everthing, none of which is any good if you cannot get any grip. The 245 summer rubber is useless. I understand from the forums best action is a set of IS200 16" wheels with 205 winter tyres. Bit of an expense. Wrap it up in the garage to keep it warm until the sun comes out again. A bit like having a motor cycle. !!! yamavira.
  3. Cheers Guys. Thanks for your help. Most appreciated. regards Yamavira.
  4. And how does one contact Steve please ??. The link does not take you anywhere. Yamavira.

  6. How does one contact Steve please ??????. Clicking on link does not give access to an email page. I am a GOLD member although it is not shown which means I am unable to access the parts for sale forum. Any help, or a reply from Steve, would be most welcome. Thanks Yamavira.
  7. My car is a bog standard IS250 auto. It has not been lowered or modified in anyway. As I stated in my original posting the clearance between the top of the tyre/wheel and the wheel arch, together with the width of the standard tyre makes it very very difficult to fit the sock over the top of the tyre let alone fit it around the rest of the tyre. I have yet to succeed in fitting a sock and that is with the car in the "comfort" of my garage. yamavira.
  8. It really would be prudent to put them on all 4 wheels. I agree. However the comments have drifted away from the point I was attempting to make. That being HOW DO YOU GET THE SOCKS ON IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!.As I stated in my original posting (before it wandered off) the tyre size & wheel fit in the wheel arch makes it a really difficult task getting a sock on. Let alone 4. If there is a technique, other than that provided with the product, please share it. Last winter I found it almost impossible, despite all of the Lexus auto technology, getting any traction on the slightest of inclines. I wish to avoid that happening this winter. At this moment in time I do not feel tyre socks are the answer. Seriously thinking of getting a set of winter tyres, yes a set, 4 tyres. An expensive outlay but it is that or a more suitable vehicle. yamavira.
  9. Hi :shutit: [just bought a set of snow socks for the IS250. They say fit on the driving wheels only. That is if you can fit them !!!!!!. Decided a dummy run was in order. Big problems. The width of the tyre combined with the tight clearance between the top of the tyre & the wheel arch makes it an almost impossible task. I did not succeed in fitting a sock even though the car was in the garage. If it was outside, cold, wet, dark & snowing you would die of hypothermia or have frost bite trying to fit them. They may do the business when fitted but I personally would not recommend buying them. They state they will quickly wear out if used on tarmac & max speed is 50kph. So will be taking them on and off, well, like a pair of socks !! Yamavira.
  10. Hi Thanks for the info. Just tried, unfortunately did not clear my system. All the stuff from the previous owner still there. Cheers Yamavira.
  11. Intend to upgrade the light bulbs on my 250IS. Once I get the engine covers off what is the access to the dip, main light bulbs like, easy, awkward or difficult. Do not wish to start the task if it will be a total pain to change the bulbs. The fog lights, both front & rear look awkward. Lots of internal panelling to remove for starters. Thanks yamavira.
  12. Hi Soon be dark "early" & raining most of the time & then it will be snow & slush yet again. So what are the most effective things to do to keep the IS250 auto gripping on what ever is under the tyres. Last winter it was hopeless. All of the electronic wizardry was useless. May as well have put the car in the garage along with the bike. Tyre socks. Are these used just to get you out of a rut or can you run a few miles on them. Tyres. Any recommendations regarding winter tyres instead of the current Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres which are hopeless on anything but a decent black top road. Looking forward with trepidation to the period of bad road conditions. Yamavira.
  13. HI Just booked my IS250 auto petrol in for 20K service. Lexus Newcastle stated oil would be semi synthetic. yamavira
  14. Hi IS 250 Auto Petrol due for a service. Considering having a K&N Air Filter fitted instead of the standard filter. Would welcome comments from anyone that has had a K&N air filter fitted. Is it worth the extra money. Does it make any tangible difference to the car's performance (as per their ads !!). Thanks Al.
  15. Hi. Considering having my 250IS auto petrol remapped. Not sure what this entails exactly, how much it costs & most importantly are the improvements cost effective & noticeable. Would welcome comments from anyone who has actually done this. Thanks regards Yamavira. :)
  16. Hi IS250 auto petrol 08 due for an annual servcice. Was astounded when contacted local Lexus. £419. Requested a check list to see why it cost so much. Sorry do not have one at the moment. As the Lexus has so much electronics I assume it will be connected to a diagnostic machine & if all within the required parameters that will be it. Oil & fluids changed. Service completed. Is this the going rate from a Lexus dealer. yamavira.
  17. Morning I wish to clean out ALL of the old destinations from my almost 2 years old 250IS. Manual not very helpful, neither are Lexus UK or my local dealer "experts". Would welcome any assistance please. regards Yamavira.
  18. Hi Some help & advice please guys. Kerbed a wheel on my 250IS during the lousy road conditions. Decided to have it repaired. There is a choice. Completely stripped back, repaired & powder coated. Cost £88. OR Repair damaged section of rim and respray. Cost £50. Anyone had any experience of either repair. The powder coat says the spray repair will not last (paint stripped off at first jet wheel wash). The spray repair says powder coating great until it is chipped then corrosion sets in under the coating corroding the actual alloy of the wheel. Thanks for any imput.
  19. The snow is beginning to melt so soon we shall all forget about the non grip problems of our IS 250s. Until next time of course !!!!. Question to any contributors who have bought and fitted genuine WINTER TYRES. DID THEY DO THE BUSINESS AND GET YOU/KEEP YOU GOING ??. It will cost the thick end of £600 to fit a decent set of Winter Tyres to my 250IS auto. I would like to know if it is a cost effective measure or should I just buy a set of Autosocks, put a few bags of sand in the boot or simply put it in the garage until the sun comes out again, Would welcome comments guys. Yamavira. :duh:
  20. Hi Along with many others am experiencing major problems in using my IS250 auto in the current weather (snow/ice). Thinking of a pair of rear steel wheels fitted with real Winter Tyres. Has anyone been down this route ?. Is it cost effective or is the car still useless in the snow ice. If it is cost effective where is the best place to buy a pair of steel wheels and the Winter Tyres to go on them. Would welcome your advice / comments. Cheers & Thanks for any input. Yamavira.
  21. Hi. New to the forum and only had my IS 250 auto for 6 months. This is my first auto trans car. Absolutely loved it until this week !!!!!!!. Took me 1 1/2 hours to get it out of the car park at manchester airport on wed. Got home and the car has been "parked" out on the street for the past few days after refusing to move when I stopped to unload the cases after finally getting home late wed. night. Carefully read the manual and duly pressed the buttons but to no avail. Just could not get it to move. So lots of useless summer rubber with no grip. Not a very happy little bunny I can tell you. Never had this problem with the manual beemer 325 !!!. This morning it was the shovel and lots of sand under the wheels. Finally moved it. Now in the garage . Thanks goodness for the Titan 4x4. Loves this weather. Al.
