Found this site about 4 weeks ago when searching for IS200 gearbox problems. Similar story to most where 1st and 2nd can be difficult when cold or warm. Dealer changed gearbox and diff oil, but as expected no obvious improvement, which was then that I started searching for problems on the net.
Complained to Lexus and pointed out the number of other owners with similar problems. The dealer arranged for Lexus HQ representative to drive the car and then received a call advising that the gearbox is to be stripped and inspected.
That was last Tuesday (10th June) and now eagerly awaiting the return of the car.
Rather than the normal IS200 automatic's that are usually provided, I have been provided a manual IS200 sportcross. The difference is quite marked. Although on occasions if you hurry a change you can feel a slight notchiness, although no different than my A6 quattro, the change quality is quite a lot better. I guess they can get it right !
I expected Lexus to fob me of with the “they are all like that“, looks like it depends upon which dealer you use and how hard you push Lexus HQ.
Interesting to see the various responses from owners but not to confidant that there isn’t a general design issue and that the problem may well return as the miles tot up. Am hopeful that if they are spending this effort and money that there is a solution, here’s hoping !
