With my car, it was unfortunate that the engine needs a rebuild but this was a problem with the early diesel cars and Lexus are aware of it and are repairing them under warranty, the later diesels are better and more reliable. The fact that mine produced such bad mpg was a clue to me that there was a problem hence the reason why I made the enquires on the forum of other diesel owners. But bottom line, it’s all about what you could afford at the time.
I have nothing against the V6 petrol, and will probably opt for one as my next car if I don’t go for the GS 450h or another diesel but at the time, it was cheap in comparison to other cars I was looking at and because it was cheaper than other IS220d’s of a similar age, I opted for the Lexus extended warranty (best £750 I have ever spent) So am I sorry that I brought it? Hell no, it’s still a great car and Lexus have looked after it and me. Would I buy one again? Yes I would, because I love the torque the engine produces which is the main reason for getting the diesel.
In conclusion read the various post here on the forum, take a drive for yourself and make a choice based on your conclusions and not anyone’s personal opinion otherwise you will never buy a car. ;)
