  1. ..or high rather!

The bloke I brought it off said it has 50mm lowering springs on it, I know IS200's sit very high as standard but I do not think this is a 50mm drop? The front is okay but the back looks well high.

Can anyone let me know what they think, if anyone who has dropped theres 50mm would be willing to take a few ground to body measurements for me I would be very gratefull too :shifty:

  2. Hew everyone. I replaced my brake pads on my IS200 today, it's the first time I've ever replaced the pads myself on any of my cars as I normally leave it to a garage to do but wanted a crack at it myself this time.

On the first caliper I undone the bottom 14mm bolt and swung the middle part of the caliper up to expose the pads, it swung upwards on the top bolt and stayed in the upright position firmly on it's own (At the moment in time, baring in mind I've never done this before I didn't think anything of it.) so I replaced pads, copper slipped them etc.. squeezed the pistons in and tighted the bolt I removed.

When I came to do the other side however, I undone the bottom 14mm bolt and swung the caliper up just like the otherside, this time however the top bolt was freely sliding and I could actually pull the top bolt out of the mating hole in the caliper, effectivly removing the whole middle section, which I couldn't do this on the other side. (Granted, I didn't try)

I have limited mechanical knoledge but after a bit of Google'ing I am taking a stab in the dark if you like and saying the top bolt is actually called a 'slide pin' and that it's seized in the caliper? Is this correct and if so is this a problem which I need to fix? Brakes doesn't seem to be binding however has got me concerned now.

  3. Hi guys,

I am replacing my front suspension tomorrow, got replacement KYB shocks and all the tools ready. I have read the guide on here does seem quite simple but I am a little nervous about it lol, I want to give it a go though as I refuse to pay £150+ for a garage to do it.

So if anyone has any additional advice or tips it would be greatly accepted.

  4. Okay mate, well I've emailed Tony to see what kind of price I am looking at- If it's expensive I will give it a crack myself.

The shocks I am looking at are 'Excel-G/Shock Absorber' from buypartsby.co.uk

Do you reckon the rears will be okay? There's no sign of them leaking, also should I replace both bottom ball joints, are they easy enough?

Thanks so much for your help.

  5. Hi mate, thanks for your reply. I was going to have a crack at it myself but I have been told I will need a spring compressor plus a ball joint breaker? Plus I will need the alignment re-doing so I might see if Tony @ WIM will do it for me as they set the alignment up for me when I originally got the car.

  6. Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well, I am in need of some help with my IS200 if possible?

I am in desperate need of some advice, I have a Lexus IS200 and it has been so good to me however recently the steering has felt a bit 'flakey' this had turned into a rapid deterioration and the car is all over the road (literally).

So I got under the car and had a look, basically the front two shocks are completely shagged (See pics, they say a thousand words.) The backs seems fine.

The car has only done 82k however I am not surprised the shocks have given out as the car has 50mm lowering springs on.

Okay, so the ideal situation is get coilovers and all is well, but I cannot afford them at the moment so will have to be replacement OEM for now. I appreciate that putting 50mm lowering springs onto the new shocks will ultimately lead them to the same fate but at the moment I don't have a choice.

    My questions

    • Replacement ones I am looking at say KYB Gas however the current ones are clearly oil, will this be a problem?
    • Will I need to replace the rears as well, even though they are not showing signs of leaking.
    • How much should a garage charge to do this? One wanted an hour and a half PER SIDE?! at £80 per hour.

Also to add insult to injury my passenger side lower ball joint seems to be on it's way out as there is an oily substance around it, again I know these will need to be replaced it pairs. Cost wise does it make sence to get this done at the same time?

    Thanking you all kindly!!
