im interested in this - will it work on a 2003 IS300
-
that towbar has a Toyota badge on it - is it a rebadged Brinkmatic or Toyota's own?
-
but if you dont use converters wont you dazzle oncoming cars?
-
so I take it that the spare bulb kit from lexus doesnt have one of these i it ;)
When you say the bulbs are designed to last the life of the car, do you mean they will go on for 5 years or more?

did you get a quote from Hatfield? what were they asking?

interesting
what does CAP give for an (April 2003) 03 IS300 with styling kit with 11,000 miles on the clock?
-
Dealer will probably offer you someting like 16k for it (at first) probably end up at 17 and a bit if youre partexingIS300 Navigator, Platinum Ice, Sports Grill and Lexus Fit Mudflaps. Registered April 2003. 25k on the clock.put an ad in autotrader at 22K and get ready to fight the hagglers? what does everyone else say

a 'little' bit more oomph & equipment
more than a little - I have never owned an IS200 but I originally went to the Lexus dealer to buy a 200.
However... when I drove the 200 I was underwhelmed by the performance so I tried the IS300 (with styling kit) and I have to say the difference in performance is significant
I have only regretted buying the IS300 once, and that was when I got caught out in a snow storm... but thats the only time ;)

Thanks for the info Chris
Ill look into getting a brinkmatic fitted
-
I have driven my IS300 hard in the wet up in the lake district and in wales and ive only spun out once - I find the handling predictable and I dont think its anywhere near as difficult to handle as some older cars ive drivenIf you had the IS300 then you may have something to worry abouthowever if it starts snowing.....then its game over
-
mmm - cutting the rear skirt - Ill need to think about that one
anyone on here with an IS with the sports kit that has gone down this route?
-
is it possible to fit the Brinkmatic to the IS300 with the sports kit - I dont want to tow a caravan, just use a towbar mounted bike carrier with light kit.....
-
thats great! thanks for the help!
-
also just got off the phone with Lexus and they quote £275 for the roof rack with 2 bike holders.....so I would hope to get a cheaper solution
-
Me and the missus have just got mountain bikes and wanted to carry them on the IS300. Not sure about whether to get a roof mounted rack or one that attaches to the rear of the car. Only problem with the IS300 with the sports kit is that you cant attach a tow bar to it so the rear mounted one may be a problem as it will obscure the brake lights / number plate.
Can anyone offer any advice?
thanks

At the moment Im running 225/40R 18Z 92Y Pirelli PZERO ROSSO
I had the IS in for its intermediate service last week and they told me my tyres are basically knackered (just under 10,000 miles on the clock)
1) is it normal for these pirelli tyres to be worn out at 10,000 miles?
2) what are the other tyre choices you can recommend
thanks

My IS300 is running 225/40R 18Z 92Y Pirelli PZERO - its barely covered 9,500 miles and the tyres will shortly need replacing.
What are the alternative tyres I could go for? I think I am after a better performing tyre than the pirellis - obviously if they last longer that would be a bonus
thanks

Most will probably call mine a 'wannabe auto sport' in a few months hang on isnt that the IS300?

I got into all sorts of trouble last night with my IS300.... im running the 18 inch pirelli pzeros and they were a nightmare..... I tried knocking off a couple of pounds pressure out of the rear tyres, snow button but even trying to get out of Stanmore tube car park (it has an uphill exit ramp) took 5 or 6 attempts
parking up last night took me the best part of an hour - the driveway was covered in ice and I had to give up on backing the car into the garage. I parked up on a grass verge which seemed like a good idea last night.....
but this morning I realised it wasnt a good idea as the rear wheels just dug in to the mud. fortunately i had a couple of people to help push me out and I managed to get on the gritted main road and do the journey to the station....
I think the snow button helps some, but the size of the tyres and power of the car just dont help in snow - I saw 2 other IS who were also all over the shop

You'll love the small IS300...
If they made this in a Manual gear box, like in the USA, I'LL jump ...
same here! although I would recommend the IS300 auto over the 200 any day. I originally went to the dealer to test drive a 200 but thought it lacked a bit in the power department
I tested the 300 with sports kit and was hooked. I ended up spending a lot more than I originally wanted to but I havent regretted it once - the IS300 is my favourite car.
As for bad weather, I drove about 800 miles over the christmas and new year period, a lot of it in the Lake District over the major passes when they were icey (Hardnott, Ryenose, Honister, Kirkstone) and the IS behaved impeccably. I tried turning traction control on a stretch of empty icey road one morning (I think it was the 29th) and it still handled well considering the conditions. I suppose it depends on how much the tail coming out freaks you out - imo once you get to know the car you can normally tell when its on the edge - I dont find it gives me that many surprises in the handling department...... touch wood B)

I recently got a Thule roof rack for my and the missus bikes and went out with them yesterday. I was expecting some deterioration of course in fuel consumption but I did about 50 miles round trip yesterday and I could practically see the fuel gauge moving round.......looks like its increased the consumption by almost 30%
